Natalie's words hit hard because even though I'm not pregnant and have never been, my thoughts about pregnancy are exactly the same to hers. I am so grateful to you Nat for being so vulnerable and sharing how you feel. I finally see that I am not alone in my thoughts and feelings. I'm sending you a huge hug and I really believe in you!

I feel the same except I have had children and went through fear of giving birth and postpartum depression, and feeling isolated as a then stay at home mom. But I appreciate Nat’s openness and honesty because you don’t hear that a lot. I remember at one point every one being like congratulations congratulations and I remember at the time not feeling it at all, and not wanting to hear that at all(after the 3rd pregnancy) Now my kids are all teenagers and I have no regrets. But I truly have so much respect for people who decide not to have kids at all. I personally don’t understand that because I always wanted to have kids but I respect it and I don’t believe in trying to convince those who say they don’t want kids otherwise. Having a child or children is a lot of work but it’s so worth yet definitely NOT for everyone. The best advice I could give Nat is accept and ask for help from those you trust!

This message is for Nat. I have had two pregnancies in my life, under very different circumstances. The first was unplanned, in the midst of leaving an abusive marriage, and when I was very young. I hated every minute of it, but when my son was born, I was hit with a never-before-felt wave of love for this child that was fierce and amazing, and erased every bit of the pain of the pregnancy, labor, and delivery. I remember them as a fact, but I cannot recall how they actually felt.
With my youngest, the situation was much different. He was planned and brought into a loving, stable marriage. In that pregnancy, I grew to love him and know him while he was still growing in my belly. He would get so excited when he heard his father’s voice, that he would dance and reach for the hand placed on my belly. He loved our nightly chocolate milk, and he held a dance-party every night at 3am.😂
I am not going to tell you that pregnancy is a beautiful, Earth-Mother, experience. I will tell you that there is joy and happiness to be found amidst the discomfort, and that the discomfort will fade, but the joys will last forever. Yes, this will be the hardest thing you have ever done. It will also be the most fun, most rewarding, most joyful experience you will ever have. I hope you can focus on the joy and the fun, and thoroughly enjoy these next few months and the years of joy to follow!

Congratulations! My two generic pieces of advice:
1: Don't wait until a gender reveal, open that envelope in your own home where you can be emotional and feel everything
2: Everyone says "wait till they start crawling" or "just wait till they won't stop talking" and all this kind of stuff. Don't let that get to you, every stage of infancy was better than the one before it, and being a parent can be a lot more fun than other people make it out to be.

The thing I loved about this video is that it felt like Natalie (hope it's right) was the protagonist of it, and you let her have her space to tell the story, and even if it wasn't always optimistic and joyful but rather scared and doubtful, you were there to support her. We tried for 15 years to have our daughter and it was a surprise when it finally happened. I spent my entire pregnancy paranoid we'd lose her and a fear that I couldn't do it and especially birth. I was scared until It finally came time to have her and then it was like someone flipped a switch in my brain and I was 100% ready and pushed her out. I can't explain to you how you'll feel after you have her, generally, but I just want you to know you'll be okay

Such a realistic response to pregnancy, so refreshing. I was not over-the-moon giddy with excitement, but enjoyed my pregnancy. As someone who dealt with depression during and after pregnancies, lost my first baby almost full term, and now has a healthy 8 year old - it’s so worth it. You guys are in a great position working for yourselves; you can travel, sleep in, etc. My best advice is don’t push yourselves when you don’t have to. We didn’t travel the first 2 years of our daughter’s life. It was more trouble for us and her. We just enjoyed taking it easy for that season.

As a parent I would like to share some advise!
    - No parent knows what they are doing, we are all improvising.
    - All kids are different, that is why there is no guide book for parenting, is just impossible.
    - Don't blame the other, both are tired, both of you will feel lost and scared, supporting each other is the best mindset to have during that first year.
    - is good to hear advise from others, but at the end you are the parents, you know what is best for the kid.
    - They grow really fast, so enjoy every phase.
    - And.... a fever is 37.5 C, not 36.5, not 37.... 37.5 C

Hey Nat, congratulations! I've been a mum for 3 months now and all the fears and worries you mentioned in the video are true. Yes, pregnancy is hard, your body changes a lot and labour is very painful. But it really is worth it. The positives far outweigh the negatives. Your baby will bring you joy and laughter. You will realize your capacity for love is greater than you ever imagined. You will realize you are so much stronger (mentally and physically) than you thought. You will gain a new respect for your body. Your life will be turned upside down in the most beautiful way. The best is yet to come pet. Keep smiling and focusing on the positive.

Congratulations! This comment is mostly for Nat. I completely understand how you feel. I can only describe pregnancy as feeling like you’re going downhill in a car with no breaks. Your body completely takes control of this process and mentally and emotionally you’re just trying to hold on. Having made it to the other side of things my advice is to remember that “this too shall pass” the hard times, the pain, the struggle, the joy, the peace and the chaos. Everything comes and goes. I felt like pregnancy lasted forever. I also felt like the fragile infant stage lasted forever. But everything was a phase.
My last message to both of you, as much as your life will inevitably change when you become a parent, you also have the opportunity to introduce this new family member to all the things that you both love and enjoy. With your creative minds you can keep a lot of your hobbies and interests but just have to make adjustments to bring the little one along.
Introduce your kid to your favourite foods and music and activities etc. they will develop a unique taste in life that is only unique to your family.
    Best of luck!

I never wanted to be a minimalist more than when my kids were a few years old. We had “ stuff” , I was overwhelmed. Limiting the “stuff” and focusing on other things was the key. They never missed what they didn’t have. We played, we laughed, we adventured. Now as adults, they do not focus on physical things to fill their lives. I think you will find that less stuff brings you peace so you can put your effort in other areas. Many blessings to you both.

The sad thing about watching videos is that you want to answer like it’s a normal conversation. I felt like I had something to say for every sentence 😂 I think the first sign that you’re going to he an amazing mom is that you have questions and try to get answers. As an anxious person, what helped the most during my three pregnancies was reading positive birth stories, or even stories where there was a scary part but the outcome was ultimately great. It was also super helpful to keep telling myself that women have given birth since the beginning of time and I CAN TOTALLY DO THIS. (I also avoided parenting books and baby books -- too much noise.) I hardly ever comment but coming out of the woodwork to say congratulations! Baby news is the best news. You're gonna be great.

The main thing is you have a partner in Matt who is willing to accept challenges and really tackle them head on and is exactly what you will need in going through pregnancy and raising a child. As a dad of 2 children it isn’t easy but the main thing is you figure it out, you dig deep and you manage and it is surprising the sheer will of your spirit when you are beyond tired yet you still manage.     I'm a newish mama, and my advice would be;
Buy what you want, and don't worry about what you think you need or what someone else says you need.
Buy onesies with ZIPS! The person who invented poppers hates parents!
Don't overthink how you think you should feel. It took me about 4 months to get that overwhelming falling in love feeling that mothers get and I felt awful about it. But actually, more people get that than I thought.

    Nat,
I resonate with your words so much. I’ve been crying so much from my own pregnancy symptoms.
You’re absolutely right. Everything changes immediately when you get pregnant. I’ve been so sick with my pregnancy, and it’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
There’s so much that feels negative around childbirth and parenting. You’re right, it’s terrifying. I want to cry listening to your words, because I too, am “spiraling in the negative.”
It’s so refreshing to hear a pregnant person say that they too are terrified and scared of the negative changes. It’s just hard. This is difficult. I don’t have any comforting words, just that I understand and you are not alone. ❤

  • @magretkindermann360

Her words make me feel understood. My pregnancies were like hers, I got flooded with changes in my body and mind and mood. It overwhelmed me and stole my energy. It was weird because nine month were too long and too short as well. Too long because I really wanted myself back and too short because I wasn't done figuring everything out. (But the good part is I bounced back one day after giving birth both times.) Anyways ... congrats!

I’m 15 weeks pregnant today and I completely understand how you feel Nat. I was feeling that way since knowing about my pregnancy. The first trimester was extremely draining for me, it wasn’t enjoyable at all. Remind yourself to listen to your body, rest if you feel like you need to rest. Take a day off if you can. I spent lots of weekends watching pregnancy videos - lots of Aussie mums on UA-cam. I feel a lot different now, my pregnancy anxiety is gone and I’m feeling so excited. All the best ❤

And it's good to be prepared and know realistically that parts of this are going to be hard. But let me tell you from someone whose first baby turns 7 soon: nothing can prepare you for how wonderful it will be to have this new person in your life. How much you'll love them and be charmed by them and how much they'll make you laugh. You're prepared for the hard times, but rest assured there is SO MUCH good coming that you can't even imagine yet ❤️

Congrats, guys! I became a dad last year, and every part of this video brought back an incredible wave of emotions and memories. My wife and I spent 11 years living the life we wanted before our daughter entered the picture, so we definitely felt the pull of "leaving your life behind" when our daughter came along. We've kind of taken this approach of fully embracing the new with the understanding that we can always revisit the favorite parts of our former self whenever we want to. It simply requires intentionality and communication. Since you're a master Intentionist™, I have no doubt you'll find the method that brings you the most fulfillment. So stoked for you! You're going to love every second of it.

Especially what she said about not having 9 months to prepare; that’s so true! From the moment that you are pregnant, everything changes already (mentally and fysically). Take it one day at a time, and listen to your body and mind about what is necessary at that moment. Attending a mindfulness birth-class was so helpful for me! :)

Don't worry, Nat, you'll go through waves of despair and fear, and moments of uncontainable joy and fun - through pregnancy and raising a baby. As far as I am concerned, that rollercoaster of emotion doesn't go away, you just learn to ride the waves better (and your hormones typically balance around child's age 2 or so, and that helps A TON). Congratulations! So happy for you both.
