The problem with renting is, at the end of the day you are paying money to someone and you get nothing in return. 20,000 rent for a month is 2.4 lakhs per year and if you pay that for 15-20 years, that's a huge amount of money with nothing to show for at the end of that period.
Also having your own house gives you a sense of security. Your landlord can ask you to leave the house in 3 months time or you might end up having a chronic debilitating disease or a road traffic accident that makes you bedbound. In such a situation, there's no option to wait for your retirement. A house is a good investment given you don't spend too much on it.
If we buid a house in a small budget without chasing the fad is the best. Else it will not give the peace.

Renting us not easy i lived in 2 houses in 4 years. Shifting whenever house owner demands is really menatally physically and financially taxing. We then bought an old house at a good location. The house itself was cheep because of depreciation while land price was high due to location. We upscaled the house a bit. Wr are happy that we did not build a new house damaging environment and we got a nice neighborhood.
