a closed cell foam pad would make your life much easier. It has multiple uses, you can use it by the fire and relax. And you can use it under your air matress at night.
If you dont have that you will get cold no matter how much clothes you got on.
In Norway we got a military foam, probably got the same in Canada.

Thing about that old man's beard is it lives by absorbing moisture from the air, so if you get a good humid day, it soaks it up and holds onto it, then it likes to go out on ya. Wow look at that smoked cod! You always hear people talk about bread bags in their boots to keep the sweat out of the boot, I've never done it personally but it makes sense.

Good video Robert , but I don’t think I could do that ,I find it to cold now . I was cold till you got the fire going, then it looked a little warmer, I’m 77 years old and I enjoy watching videos like outdoors adventures, keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching

You need to get yourself a pair of down booties. I have a couple of pairs my wife and I use whenever we use the camper early in the season. They keep your feet pretty warm. They have hard soles so you can wear them around the camp while your boots are thawing out.

Millie and Goose out living the best life ever!! Awesome!! Lots of snow to trudge through but wonderful to get out and enjoy all the winter has to offer. It sure is Otis' favourite time of year, that's for sure! Good food and a great fire makes it all worth every effort! Take good care and enjoy the rest of the week!

I watched a video the other day and the fellow used Vaseline on a cotton swap to light a fire sure worked good. Thanks for the videos. Lots of snow there too.

Some things I have tried to stay a little warmer and make things a tad more pleasant getting out of bed: Put boots in waterproof bag into the bottom of the sleeping bag at night to keep from freezing. Another option is a hot Nalgene bottle in each boot. Put a bottle of hot water in your sleeping bag (safest in a dry sack :-)(keeps you warm), also put any electronics in you bag. Can also use hand, foot and body warmers.
If you are not wearing all your clothes at night, also put in sleeping bag to be warm in the morning. I got my winter bag larger to handle all this. Put damp socks and liner gloves under your base layer on your stomach to dry out from body heat. Your dinner made me very hungry!!

Great suggestions there! I have used the hot Nalgene in my sleeping bag before and works great! I definitely need to find a solution for the frozen boots. I think next time I will bring an extra dry bag and put them at bottom of sleeping bag like you said. Thanks!

What a great scenery with all that fresh snow . You had quite a workout to make your path to your camping ground . As I do only cold camping , so no stove to dry my clothes afterward , I have learned to put a plastic liner ( plastic bag ) between 2 layers of socks to prevent the boots from getting wet and freezing at night. Your sauté with the potatoes, onion and moose did look good ! I was scared that one of the dogs would pierce a hole in your air pad as there was nothing over to protect it 😮 I use to watch Justin Barbour videos, you remind me a little bit of him . Thanks for sharing !

Another fine trip and a great feed! Bet you missed the Esker! Can't wait for the Ice fishing trip... Just watched NTV and saw there is 108cm of snow on the ground in the Gander area, and more coming... Good Luck! Watching from Cambridge Ontario. Stay safe and warm Rob...

Another awesome video my buddy. You definitely had a hard slog, I did a bit of a walk Saturday but nothing compared to what you did there lol. I'd be sweating buckets 🪣 and end up freezing 🥶 lol.
Milli is just luck Tucker all there trying to get close to the food lol.
The smoke cod looked delicious, I tried doing it for the first time last summer using Darrell Wells caplin brine to soak it in and was delicious, definitely have to try more this year.
I could smell that moose cooking
Was a cold morning, I've seen these bootie like slippers some use that I've tempted to get a pair, would be great for the morning like you just had.
Congrats on that 3 K mark , you definitely deserve it you're making great content. Looking forward to your fishing videos

Probably your sleeping bags were ok. Most likely you could have used a little more R value under you, like a closed cell foam pad.

    • @langdonoutdoors7859
      @langdonoutdoors7859  6 місяців тому

Yes. I actually meant to mention the sleeping bags again in the morning, but forgot. I stayed warm enough in the smaller mummy bag and didn’t even end up using the bigger bag because Millie was asleep on top of it all night. A closed cell foam pad would definitely add some extra insulation underneath and make things a little warmer too! Thanks!
