- Microsoft has shipped every version of Windows since Windows 7 without a start up sound, and they’ve even disabled the ability to customize your sound within Windows 10’s Sounds menu. The good news is that enabling and changing your startup sound can be done in just a few steps, and just requires a few changes on your part.

I bet you can also change it in regedit, without any 3rd party programs, but you need to know what youre doing there because it may damage ur pc if you change something youre not supposed to change.

I remember back in my windows 98 days, I changed my start up sound to a thunder clap... One time I forgot to turn my speakers down and at 3 am I woke up to do something and THUNDER CLAP at 100% volume... WOW.

@@matex_e Windows 11 allows up to 30 seconds. Win 10 only does about 5 seconds.
win xp was so much easier when changing startup and shutdown sounds.

I hate videos like that. This is, how to personalize windows startup sound, not above video: Press Win+R to bring up the Run menu. Type in regedit and press OK to bring up the Registry Editor.
Head to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels and you should see a number of subfolders, each one representing a different sound in the OS. If you click on one-say, WindowsLogon-you'll see a key in the right pane called ExcludeFromCPL. Double-click it and change its value to 0.
Repeat this process for WindowsLogoff and SystemExit.
Exit the Registry Editor and head back to Control Panel > Sound > Sounds. You should see those options have returned to the menu, and you can customize them as normal.

Yah well that will give you a sound when you "Log In" or "Log off". The tutorial shows how to change the "startup" sound.

You said from Windows 95 onward but the first windows to have a startup sound is windows 3.0 Mme (but most people remember the first being windows 3.1)

I did this manually almost a year ago but ever since I updated my laptop and windows 10 miraculously reinstalled itself, I have 2 start up sounds now. The default start up sound from enabling in sounds, and registry and because I had to re enter my custom sound in the task scheduler x_x

@@minnesotasownmisterbdl you can get to the task scheduler from the windows administrative tools which you can probably look up and pin to your start bar. Unfortunately this post is from 2 years ago so I don't even remember how I did it 😅

Windows no longer permits the use of the startup sound. Did everything I could, restarted my computer multiple times. The startup sound will not play.
Okay so I'm back a month later, and I updated Windows 10 this morning. When it was done updating, the startup sound actually played. So it wouldn't play after shutting down and restarting the computer multiple times, but it would after an update. Interesting.

I actually did this like a month ago, but I put the startup sound on my laptop, and every time I have to restart it, it plays the startup sound. Microsoft Windows 10 is a very strange thing for computers.
@Mark Jacob Garcia it does work for me, just very dodgy as for me, it works 100% of the time on my laptop, but doesn’t work most of the time on my PC. Very dodgy.

I did all of this and it did nothing. I even replaced sounds in windows media with my personel sound and just renamed it. I selected the sound from there. Nothing worked. I followed all your direction and nothing worked. I looked online and it said clearly that you cannot change the windows 10 startup sound. It offered software called Startup Sound Changer which is something you add on and once put on it gives you no option to uninstall or remove it. So I could not get rid of it and I could not used google chrome anymore becauee it crashed it. I had to do a system reformat to get rid of it. I dunno why so many people are commenting it worked for them because I have asked several friends to see if they could do this following this video and everyone one of them said they followed it and it did nothing. The startup sound windows uses is not even located in windows media anymore. Microsoft itself says that windows 10 does not allow startup sounds to be customized anymore. The only answer that was given to me on why was from a computer repair shop who said that this video probably works for those who had something older on their computer like windows 7 or 8 and then upgraded to windows 10. However any computer that has windows 10 already installed onto their computer when they bought it won't be able to use this video to change windows startup sound. So if that is the case I wish you would make sure people understood it before the video even started. Just a waste of time.

I used it and it crashed my chrome browser. Once put on it does not give an option to uninstall and you cannot locate it to do so. I had gotten rid of microsoft edge so I had no browser to use and had to reformat to get rid of the dam thing. So if you use Chrome I would not use it.

First part of the video is unnecessary. Youdont have to turn off the fast startup and the default win7 startup sound will still play if you enable it. You only turn the fast startup off if you want to change the startup sound for something that is long i guess

It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries.
2. The industrial-technological system may survive or it may break down. If it survives, it MAY eventually achieve a low level of physical and psychological suffering, but only after passing through a long and very painful period of adjustment and only at the cost of permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine. Furthermore, if the system survives, the consequences will be inevitable: There is no way of reforming or modifying the system so as to prevent it from depriving people of dignity and autonomy.
3. If the system breaks down the consequences will still be very painful. But the bigger the system grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown will be, so if it is to break down it had best break down sooner rather than later.
4. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system. This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can’t predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. @@bololollek9245 By using the third party software Audacity.. I didn't think through my comment too well. But, Audacity is a trusty program I've used for years to clip out sections of audio for ringtones and the like.

First part of the video is wrong. I literally have the fast startup on and i still managed to turn on the startup sound few years ago. I dont remember how, but I did it and my pc is still in the fast startup mode
