thanks for taking your time to do this man. my brother and uncle are natural fighters and 100+ pounds on me, but ive been studying and ive caught them! my next big thing is defense and footwork, gotta get hit less!
Close your eyes?!?! No definitely dont want to do that. Sweat rolling into your eyes sometimes can have that effect but never close them if can avoid it. Get a sparring partner to hit you in the face lightly till that fear goes away and develop a skill instead of a weakness.
Pay attention to Floyd Mayweather. More often than not, when he receives a blow, he does not close his eyes, but narrows them. While many eminent boxers close their eyes after receiving a blow. Because the basis of his fight, in my opinion, is perception. Thank you for your hard work, Health!
In shooting it's the same way. Helps greatly if you don't blink after every bang. But like in this instance, it comes with training and experience. Which I don't have, so I blink a lot.
Thank you so much for your vids homie. I joined a boxing gym about 3 or 4 months ago and am working on two months of complete sobriety from alcohol/opiates. Been eating clean, sleeping well and attending class more regularly and am much more enthusiastic. Your vids have been an incredible resource for us noobs out here. Appreciate it!
I was outboxed in light sparring in my muay thai class yesterday, wich left me absolutely devastated and dejected because my boxing sucks so much whereas my kicks and everything else is just on point. This is the best advice i've seen through my research. Really opened my eyes, what kind of mistakes i was making and how to fix them. Great content, thank you so much!
I was taught in muay Thai to watch the chest. It helps me dehumanize the person an see feet an hands. Oddly I watched a couple mma fights an they are obsessed with eye contact.
This is for me, but if you want to use it go right on ahead! 3:26 Not Blocking Your View Drill 4:20 Don’t Look Down Drill; Remind Yourself To Not Look Down and Keep Your Eyes On Your Opponents
I’m 20 yrs old no boxing experience just started 2 months ago I don’t have a problem with my offense or combinations with the mitts or punching bag , yesterday was my first day sparring against a pretty well rounded boxer who also had some good experience and and I knew I had to defend myself a little more harder even though he was going light on me because it was my first time but still like when the punches was coming at me I didn’t really know what to do , cause it’s like a natural instinct I tend to cover up with the gloves not really having a clear peripheral vision on my opponent and I was still moving but I felt myself gassing out within 20-30 second in to the first round which was 2 minute rounds , my legs was shot and felt like I was easily going down if he would’ve landed a easy cross or a hook , I do want to get back in the ring and spar , just wanted to know exactly what should I do for my conditioning and cardio to improve thanks
@Designated Marxman same thing happen to me ! I thought I was the only one but thanks for the advice I’m definitely going to be running a lot more and working on my breathing , that’s another thing takes a big part in the boxing ring if you don’t do it properly
Extremely helpful, I’ve been teaching myself how to fight and skipped some defensive things I should have covered. I competed in a kickboxing tournament and was great on offense but terrible defensively, turning away and everything but never discouraged from that just looking to correct it and this helps tremendously. Thank you
The best explanation I have seen here on UA-cam 👏👏👏 Others are forever beating around the bush instead of getting straight to the point. You get straight to the point and explain it in a really logical and understandable way --> subscription-secured
As I'm beginning to get better in boxing I start to understand that defense is not only my biggest weakness but also what is the hardest to learn. You punch, you slip, roll, move your head, even dance, but you have only small windows to properly practice taking punches. This video is reaaaaaally helpful mate, as it caters the fundamentals and helps you understand the logic. Cheers
Been watching you for years. Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you put in to this channel. A lot of invaluable info on here. Continue to and have learnt a lot from all your content. Thanks!
Keep doing what your doing. I’ve been watching you since 2017 and learned a lot from your post and vlogs. Appreciate your work and passion in boxing! 🥊👍🏻💪🏻🙏
Thank you VERY much for the "holding your breath" part!!! It's simple, but i hope it can help me with my short breath in sparring! Really, I haven't ever thought about this!
Very helpful! I feel I’m at a bit of a disadvantage not training mma until I turned 22. But being able to work on striking outside of the gym as well is gonna be a game changer! Your channel is amazing. I am definitely gonna drill these
Your not at any disadvantage (your are slightly but don’t make it a big thing). I sparred the NATIONAL Champ at 147 pounds after 1 year months of boxing (I’m 24) and frankly I beat him up. Are you obsessed? Because if your not, it won’t matter what age you started Peace and Love
I’m a slim built 6’0 157 with a 76 inch reach and naturally athletic I’ve been boxing for 6 months now and luckily I grew up watching the sport so I was ahead of most but thank you for the videos because my main focus as of now is defense because with my reach and speed my goal is to get into a position where my physical gifts and defensive skills make me very difficult to hit in-turn making it a lot easier to counter and destroy dudes from the outside
Thanks very much!! I'm a MuayThai amateur fighter, and I was trying to work this guard defence if mine since while I'm sparring or fighting I noticed that I do not came back fast with my left hand and there fore I took many clean shots like punches, elbows or even kicks. I'm still a begginer but with the help of my coach I would love to became a professional even though I'm 32years old, I'm willing to put on work, and ready to do whatever it takes! He recommended me some exercises but as he told me : " I know about MuayThai, but not about boxing , I don't know everything" so I decided to take some box classes at least for learning how to foot work properly and eventually adapting all those techniques to my MuayThai training and fighting. I'm really Powerful, I never ever would imagine that o can Puch that hard, and i would like to learn boxing techniques to use my power the proper way 👊🏻🙏🏻

THIS IS GOLD!!!! LONG TIME SUBSCRIBER.
thanks for taking your time to do this man. my brother and uncle are natural fighters and 100+ pounds on me, but ive been studying and ive caught them! my next big thing is defense and footwork, gotta get hit less!
My old coach always said “closing your eyes does not make the monsters disappear”. Still find that helpful years later.
Close your eyes?!?! No definitely dont want to do that. Sweat rolling into your eyes sometimes can have that effect but never close them if can avoid it. Get a sparring partner to hit you in the face lightly till that fear goes away and develop a skill instead of a weakness.
Damn
@Adam C u may be suffering from a fight-tips adiction.
It might not make the monsters go away, but depending on WHAT it is coming at you, it could save your eyes.
That's what they told me at the mental hospital.
A good defence can leave you opponent exhausted, confounded and out of ideas, allowing you to counter and outbox them.
Underrated art
Smart defense would be a better way to phrase it in my opinion
@@DaunteeTheInferno 400 people thought it was phrased just fine
facts floyd his a good example of what u are saying
who under rates defense? only observers wanting to see a knockout.
Also saves your brain cells. Which is probably the most important.
That is pure gold. Seriously. Can't believe this shit is free.
Thanks brother!
I threw a jab to the like button and i broke my screen... Thanks coach! 😂
Same
My phone still safe, need more training
@@zidan8664 same ;((

Which I don't have, so I blink a lot.
I can’t believe a youtube coach is teaching me more ab defense than my coaches 😭😭
sad but its true lol
get a better coach my g :/
Ur coach is shit. Or he is teaching u step by step, or one at a time., the best way to learn. :)
Keep ya hands up!
😭😭😭😭

I did the same thing you did. Started boxing after 2 years of being clean.
Don’t give up !!got 1 year without alcohol & 7months without cigarettes.. boxing has definitely helped!
Good job!
Hope your recovery is going well, buddy!
How’s it going now?
To all of you in recovery, keep on that path. Boxing saves lives…!!!

How are you now
How are you....now?
How are... you... now?
How… are… you…
Now?
How... are... you...
now?...
Hey grandma! How are you? Will you hit me 100 times?
Grandma, tearing up: "I've been waiting for this day all my life"
shows up at first match: *EYES WIDE OPEN STARING MENACINGLY*
I was taught in muay Thai to watch the chest. It helps me dehumanize the person an see feet an hands. Oddly I watched a couple mma fights an they are obsessed with eye contact.
That what I always do. I just try to see the whole person. I'm also damn near blind so eye contact is pointless for me anyway.
Idn how I picked it up .. but I never look my opponents in the eyes .. I see thru them.
Looking your opponents in the eyes is a psychological thing. MMA fighters and boxers do it to throw off their opponents. Still not a good habit though
There’s nothing in the eyes. Your muay tai coach was correct.
I learned it from Fight Science to watch the chest and the shoulders
"If you Looking Down this is where you go"
Thats a good one!
I've started to incorporate these boxing drills into my defensive work. For me you are not a boxer until you can evade punches.
*DISCLAIMER* don’t really throw a jab at the like button.
This is for me, but if you want to use it go right on ahead!
3:26 Not Blocking Your View Drill
4:20 Don’t Look Down Drill; Remind Yourself To Not Look Down and Keep Your Eyes On Your Opponents
Great tips! Always like to rewatch this video. Thanks Coach!
Best boxing video for beginners i have seen.
This video is absolute gold
Great that you also showed ways to get rid of the mistakes
As someone with a negative perception, i learned something about this guy. This guy is impressive❤

Ok this felt personal 😂
haha, I'm sorry. I've been through most of these as well.
If there was a gym with a trainer like Jason around my town I would be a much happier man. Thanks for tha content Jason!
I'm actually amazed how much your videos are helping me when combined with training with my coach. Sparring has become much much easier!
The looking down was my biggest problem after my opponent starts going aggressive i tend to look down and block.. i still wanna change that habit
Not having an exit plan is definitely my biggest problem. This was great.
Brilliant. Eyes open is so hard!!!
The best explanation I have seen here on UA-cam 👏👏👏

Almost 70 years of ass whooping experience, grandma could take on AJ
Them elbow blocks is the best defense in a street fight as well

For tip 1, the speed and cobra bags are GREAT pieces of equipment to get for tip 1.
What was Tip #1 about I got the Cobra bag myself...
Love the exit plan drill "Imagination" ...
You had me slapping my own face after a minute. Thats worth a like.
"get your grandma to put the gloves on"😂😂😂
Concurring with everyone else commenting: namaste for this stuff!
Looking past the punches. Genius
Whenever I'm Shadow Boxing I always start or end with a defensive maneuver
Exhaling is the best tip ever! You can take a lot off blows on your body and having no troubles at all
Thanks for all this 👍
