I had fun talking with Joe on JRE in Texas. Episode should be out next week. A lot of folks asked me how the new studio is. This quick video is about that. TLDW: I love it.
I appreciate your view Lex, but I think you are being kind in this case. If you actually used to viewing JRE rather than listening, the new setup really makes it for an uncomfortable viewing. Red draws all the attention, my eyes kept jumping back and forth and it really is a tiring experience.
Exactly. Takes the focus away from faces. So much so it makes people look pale and desaturated... Red is the worst choice for a background for interviews - people's faces have a lot of the color, so it blends them with the background. Literally any other color would do for contrast. It could be easily adjusted in post though - but not live, because without masking the effects that Jamie could do to fix that would look horrible and affect the faces. Every time someone talks about the studio they commend Jamie like they don't want to hurt his feelings or something. Jamie is a baller at running the JRE, no one is knocking that. It's just the aesthetics of the studio are meh. I agree the size, the tv placement, everything feels more intiment. However, the majority of complaints are because the atmosphere doesn't feel like the JRE we all like. It doesn't feel like Joe Rogans studio, it feels like someone elses.. which is true because from what you seemed to suggest it sounds like it's a Jamie studio and not a Joe studio. I expect to see rugged, rough, yet modern aesthetics. Elk heads, celebrity posters, things that convey the aura JRE has. This studio feels like some shallow Hollywood set. The old one, as cliche as it may sound, felt like you were hanging out with Joe and his guest. I loved JRE videos because they felt less like an interview and more like a chill session. Where the current look, seems way too serious. Lastly: Jamie made it look like his mancave and not a studio. Like, design 101 is that red is SUPER hard on the eyes. Jamie may be good at running the podcast, but his taste is very niche, and the videos are for the audience. This is going to be one of those moments where people absolutely hate something, the company refuses to change it, people stop watching the videos, and then they are left with the circle jerk feedback of super fans who defend anything and make it seem like its what people want.
i think it needs a lot of that eclectic silliness back seeing the funny shit on the table was always a nice subtle addition but it was nice. the current setup looks sterile, but im hoping that is only because they havent really "moved in" yet and all that funky shit is still in boxes.

if we are critiqueing his studio. positives: - the guests seem to like it more - the sound quality is probably better - joe likes it more - built for this purpose negatives: - for viewers it looks more depressing because of the darker colours and the black red combo. - for viewers it looks more depressing because there are no pictures on the wall like before. - for viewers with ocd the non uniform background will be annoying more so now than before due to the brick background being consistent. - during the podcast the wide angle shot almost never gets used yet is the best looking out of all the camera angles. the close up face shot looks the worst out of all the camera angles whereas before in the other studio the face shot was the best camera angle in the old studio. me personally, i think the new studio is a 4/10 whereas the old studio was a 8/10. it's just depressing to look at. that being said the podcast is more about the audio than the visual however since you are critiquing his studio this is my view on the visuals.
One question: This frequent editing, is it just due to ineptitude/stage fright, or is this some "youtuber trick" to engage the viewer's attention? I see many other youtubers do this to excess.
when most people speak, as in not professionally trained broadcasters, there's generally a lot of uhh's, umm's, like's, poor phrasing and dead air. It's been known for awhile that editing all that out is good for youtube analytics/engagement.
@@17Codiferus Thanks for the clarification. I´m aware of this, but many youtuber-to-camera videos are just littered with this to a fault. I, for one, am a fan of a more natural approach to communicating and find this frequent editing a distraction, rather than an enhancement of the viewer experience.

I'm about 10 of your podcasts in, and I'm now in full flex binge mode.
Regards from Cincinnati.
@@NogrimStoneson Sterile is an excellent way to describe it.
Lex! Are my favorite creator for videos like this. Keep being you. It's working.
Wait I thought that was emperor snoke’s throne room.
Even gives Jamie credit! What a nice guy! From the viewer's perspective: Most people can agree that the old studio looks more like a living room while this looks more like a claustrophobic doomsday bunker. Cheers!
I cannot wait for the episode!! Lex and Joe are my favorites
Man, a young Jamie episode would be astounding.
Lex, you simply exude beauty in your perception, you clearly focus on the beauty of our world, and it's so refreshing
Good for you Lex. I've slowly grown away from the JRE.
Ah man ! Young Jaime interviewed by Lex would be EPIC
It's bad, mkay?
People say that about every change ever. If this was the studio and the old one was the new one, I'm sure there would be more people saying "wtff, is he podcasting in front of a brick wall." I like it. It's the inside of a red pill, and when joe wears his astronaut outfit we'll be encountering some aliens.
@@DeuPKay bro it's more like the inside of a vibrator.
Funny, the lovely things Lex says about Jamie mirror completely what I feel about the podcast and the wonderful discussions of Lex and guests.
I'm glad the humanistic and philosophical questions continue to get asked even if it sometimes feels strange! It shouldn't be strange, and I appreciate how this podcast normalizes very important discussions.
Young Jamie needs some love. He's super important to the show, IMO
It reminds me of the inside of a storage unit
I’m a big fan of joe but can’t stand watching him in the neon red coffin. Haven’t watched since and missing it.
Thanks for all the great pics of the new JRE studio.
The background and camera angles make it impossible to watch. His new studio is dumb.
Even gives Jamie credit! What a nice guy! From the viewer's perspective: Most people can agree that the old studio looks more like a living room while this looks more like a claustrophobic doomsday bunker. Cheers!
It is pretty shit. That's not jumping on the hate train, it's actually shit.
@Teh Jamez Who hurt you?
@Teh Jamez found young Jamie's account.
You will be my favorite guest so far in the new studio 💯%
Hello Lex i cant wait to hear you two discussing Bob Fravor and this whole UFO thing or rather UAF.
uap - unidentified aerial phenomena 😉
@mc2161 think he was mixing up him n bob lazar 🤓
I didn't realize that Lex had a podcast. Chill but self-deprecating. I like overthink. New fan and sub.
"Hey whats up everybody this is Joe Rogan coming at you live from one of Joey Diaz's leg capillaries"
TLDR's are much appreciated Lex.
I find myself turning it off early because it reminds me of early 2000s when people were putting shitty decals and paint on their 94 Honda Civics. Very douchy
Also that poem you cited at the end of the podcast is my favorite. Thank you Lex.
Don't forget, humble bee young Jamie's got an A in Physics. Hespec
Look into it
Cant wait for the episode. Always love when you're on JRE!
i didn't like it.
bring the bricks back.
It was a really great podcast, i loved it. Your poem at the end was BOSS.
if we are critiqueing his studio.
positives:
- the guests seem to like it more
- the sound quality is probably better
- joe likes it more
- built for this purpose
negatives:
- for viewers it looks more depressing because of the darker colours and the black red combo.
Right on Lex. You're one of my favourite guests on JRE.
Unfortunately, I do not like this new studio too claustrophobic.
This is the warmest I've ever seen Lex.
Isn't the whole psychological association with the new studio a bit of an overkill?
It's just a bad studio lex.
- And on the downside...?? - *crickets* I just wanna get back in there a sixth time.
The new studio is bad :D
Young Jamie podcast needs to happen.
He is JRE Alexa
A guy who wants to keep getting invitations to JRE doesn't say anything negative.. Shocking!
Lex bro, respect keeps growing
Mr. Fridman - I only have two thing to share: Thanks for a cool video. More important: Stop doubting yourself! You are smart enough to figure out you did not say anything stupid. Keep up the good work!
Looks like the inside of a Klingon bird of prey
Atleast BOP has more texture and character lol
You're the man Lex! One of my all time favourite JRE guests!
Looks like the inside of a fruit rollup box.. or maybe Hillary's snuke
I look more foward to you interviewing joe than watching JRE. I havent really seen an interview of him
Clostrophobic space with headache fuel lighting....
Finally someone talking about Jamie giving credit to his brilliance.
honestly it looks bad
I've never been to anyones house, to any business, or government building or even a shopping centre and seem anything that looks close to being as ugly as the new studio.
The discussion of that rooms design should have come to a half when Jamie said 'hey what about red with red LED's?'
I feel like I ran the streets as a young delinquent with this character Lex.
Now here he is in another crazy construct.
Wait. You're Russian? You've never mentioned it before... ;)
Even gives Jamie credit! What a nice guy! From the viewer's perspective: Most people can agree that the old studio looks more like a living room while this looks more like a claustrophobic doomsday bunker. Cheers!
I havent watched more then 10 min of Joe's new set up. Glad I'm over his podcast haha
