You bowed because in your heart of hearts you are still an Englishman! You Kiwis got the world by the short hairs, great trout fishing and remote enough that the rest of the world leaves you alone because most of them can't swim!
Bro these vids bring back memories. We fished the Tongariro River and Tokaanu Wharf from 5years old with my dad... all the way until I left the homeland to come to WA. Miss this!! No place like home!! Kia ora bro!!
Want to give you a shout out Gareth! Ive been watching your videos for a couple months now and with watching you and picking up some skills and techniques I was fortunate enough to catch my PB trout this past weekend here in Colorado! 22 inch tank! A highlight of my fishing career and wanted to give you some love for all you do and all the knowledge you share! Keep up the good work Gareth!
I don't care that you live on the other side of the world from me, your vids are frickin sweet! I love the beautiful trout. NZ is on my bucket list. Edit: I live in the US.
Great video!!. You are very lucky to be able to catch those beautiful trout. Take great care of those fantastics rivers. Here in Spain we had great rivers but pollution and fishing pressure ended with them. A greeting.
These guys are incredible cool dudes way beautiful places to fish being a fly fisherman myself ( not as good as these guys) but I'm inspired to keep fly fishing and loving it
Thanks for putting this video together and sharing your experiences. I fish NZ,both South and North Island annually. I've fished Kamchatka, all over Alaska,British Columbia,USA, Europe, and South America. Prefer sight fishing New Zealand for trout to any other place. I know you cannot reveal the particular river you fished in this video. Can you state which island and which part of stated island? thanks again and tight lines, Mike
In your vid you were discussing fly selection, would be cool and very helpful if you could perhaps do a Video on what fly, when and where... basically what’s your thought process around selecting fly’s, perhaps even a how to series would be awesome. The reason I am asking is, I love to pop up to Taupo for a days fishing ( winter so will be there soon) but as I have a 2 hour journey to get there I am always limited on time and I always end up fishing the same river (the Hine) but would love to expand to other rivers but my lack of experience and know how stops me, I know getting a guild is a great way to learn but unfortunately that option is not in my budget. Totally understand if you don’t want to do this as you are a guild but thought I would ask anyway. Once again thanks for the videos, they are awesome regards David
Hey bro thanks heaps for the ideas. I do wanna make videos like that but just don’t have the time at the moment. But they are coming. But as far as fly selection goes don’t get to hung up about it. Small and natural will always work if fished well (good drift) (small indicator) (long leader 12ft) (6lb tippet) let me know when your down next and if I’m around we can meet and I’ll see if I can help you out. 🤙
Lovely stream, lads. Is it possible to get polarised filters for the gopro/cameras? (if you're not using them already). Would love to see clearer footage of the takes. Either way, still great vids.
Gareth please, could you make a video about waders and boots what you use? I am planing to buy some but I am totaly comfused what I need to look, or check befor buying. I gues it would be interesting for many of us. Thank you
Trout Hunting NZ I’ve had that problem with the bolt connection between the handle and net. The best thing to do is drill a small hole and put in a small pop rivet.
Anthony Mignani yeah me to this is my 4th one because they fall apart.🤬. Your right that will fix it but shouldn’t have to do that with a $100 + net. 🤙
awesome video I know its a couple of years old but wanted to find out if you all do guiding as well, as I want to come to NZ to fish. I know what i am doing as I am a guide in the states but mostly hunt big fish in small clear streams in the states.... let me know ..God bless..
Watching this stuff could get me out of my salt fly and into some mud fish chasing. So both of you guys using Olympus mirrorless? I sometimes take my E-M5 MkII out with me for stills and it has survived a few years of sand and saltwater pretty well.
Can you pls explain what you said at the start. "I go nymph because I only have a 6 weight at the moment" ie. do you need a lighter rod for dry fly ? For example, I own two rods. A Sage X 7 weight which I use in the Tongariro and an Orvis 5 wgt Superfine Carbon I use for smaller rivers/fish Should I buy a 6 wgt as well ? I was thinking of following your advice and getting a Loop Q Series rod and reel
What tippet do you typically run on these back country rivers? At first glance I would think you would need a lighter tippet based on water clarity but I would expect to see far more fish broken off if you ran 5x or something like that. Where I fish, if we have water as clear as you do I'm limited to 5x-6x or maybe 4x if i'm very lucky. Great video, cheers.
I’m from the US so I am pretty out of the loop on NZ trout fishing. Are all the trout on your channel or at least the majority wild or does NZ have stocking programs as well? Ps love the channel!
Hey mate it can be hard but sometimes the water is clear enough to see easily. Other times it can be colour that gives it away. Often a brown will have a distinct colour difference between the body and tail making the tail more obvious (pale) sometimes same thing with head but can be blue or darker.
Brotha.... I would love to be able to help you out! Only problem is that I live in the United States! My biggest wish is to make it to New Zealand to trout fish! Beautiful country, beautiful people and beautiful fish. Keep up the great content! I GREATLY appreciate it! Cheers!
Stunning mate, absolutely stunning. Hope the wan*er from a few vids ago who moaned about you not netting your own fish watched this and has the guts to comment! Classic central NI landscape, glad you can still find rivers like that with a bit of effort.
Awesome content but its kind of a bummer how often you call these fish small. I don't know, maybe its not all about weighing the fish immediately and basing it all off that.
Hands down the most entertaining duo on UA-cam! Love it gents !
Mig and Scott fishing and adventure
Pro tip: watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Camilo Ramon Yea, been using Flixzone for since december myself :)
You bowed because in your heart of hearts you are still an Englishman! You Kiwis got the world by the short hairs, great trout fishing and remote enough that the rest of the world leaves you alone because most of them can't swim!
George Semel LoL, a true gentleman....that’s me!!
Bro these vids bring back memories.
We fished the Tongariro River and Tokaanu Wharf from 5years old with my dad... all the way until I left the homeland to come to WA.
Miss this!! No place like home!!
Kia ora bro!!
Ps. Are you from Turangi??
That was fly fish heaven. That bow and arrow out of the grass looked soooo nice 👍.
Beautiful water, big brown and rainbows! New Zealand is trout heaven. Thanks for the great video.

Cool bro cheers. Yeah man get over here

Love those overhead drone shots.
Beautiful fish 🐟....great releases.

Dude what is the brand of that net with the built in scale? That is a MUST have!!!
McLean NZ made
Yeah mate as Anthony said. Good nets just make sure the bolt stays done up
Trout Hunting NZ I’ve had that problem with the bolt connection between the handle and net. The best thing to do is drill a small hole and put in a small pop rivet.
Anthony Mignani yeah me to this is my 4th one because they fall apart.🤬. Your right that will fix it but shouldn’t have to do that with a $100 + net. 🤙
@@TroutHuntingNZ Hi Guys, If you get a Rusler Trout net - made in NZ - you just won't have this problem.....
f’n EPIC. where do I get a net like that with the scale in the handle (did I see that right) ?
McLeans nets
Dawg vids are real man. Plus love the muz! Keep up the great work!!! Name of song at 11:27?

The net struggle is real! Gotta watch out for those rocks they’re pretty hard to get a net through lol Ive netted some rock fish doing that lol
Haha yeah that Alex was having a shocker on this fish.
Watching this stuff could get me out of my salt fly and into some mud fish chasing. So both of you guys using Olympus mirrorless? I sometimes take my E-M5 MkII out with me for stills and it has survived a few years of sand and saltwater pretty well.
Yeah mate love that camera. Come chase some mud fish it’s good fun 🤙

@@TroutHuntingNZ It's 4X. :-)
I'm planning a fishing trip to New Zealand for next year. Where do you recommend I go and what tackle do I bring?
Hey I am traveling to NZ this winter. Dec 7 to Jan 4 . The southern iland, what’s the whether their in that time of year?
Awesome video work!
I’m from the US so I am pretty out of the loop on NZ trout fishing. Are all the trout on your channel or at least the majority wild or does NZ have stocking programs as well? Ps love the channel!
Solid fishing Guys.
Keep up the Great Work...
What type of camera is that please? 3:11
Which model Mclean net is it? How high will it weigh? Even with all the tech troubles it's a great video, feel like I'm right there!
I would love to visit NZ fly fishing before I die, America can’t compete. The place looks amazing
Go to fernie bc for insane cutthroat and bull trout fishing
Just awesome. What sort of go pro mount are you using? Chest ?
How do you spot the difference between a rainbow and brown in the water? I pretty much see them as a trout and can’t differentiate.
Hey mate it can be hard but sometimes the water is clear enough to see easily. Other times it can be colour that gives it away.
