      @@doraldeddy1836 Most NCOs use "Pace Sticks" but occasionally you do see the RSMs using the "Swagger Stick", The "Pace Stick" is used to show that the Person is also a drill instructor, but a "swagger stick" is a show of rank. I presume that a RSM chooses what he wants to use, but I'm not sure on that, as I'm more of an expert on the Bands than the soldiers. I love these video's. What amazes me (saw it in your video) is that in The Netherlands where I live (commercial) aircraft are not allowed in the airspace above the Royal Palaces in The Hague. But here in Windsor there is no such rule.
    At the same time the Dutch Royals do not have a changing of the guard ceremony, like all other Royal Houses in Europe. So I prefer the Changing of the guard and a few aircraft ;)

    South African military musician here (trombone). Cudos to the band and I love their playing and drill.
    A few observations and questions if I may.
    Its interesting to see the DOM marching in the band. Is this only done for changing the guard because there is no salute to be taken or is it so on all parades?
    No disrespect but I noticed some older bandsmen on parade. My first assumption is that this might be a territorial band as I assumed your retirement age was around 40-45 or so. Our mandated retirement age is 60 (I'm 55 so I am also that older musician on parade👴😉).
    The last parade I did with a rifle was my passing out parade after basic training in 1985 with a HK G3 similar to your old FN SLR - which we also used until the early 80s- ( I think we liberated the G3s from the Portuguese after the de-colinisation of Mozambique and Angola🤷‍♂️, but they were only used by the SA Air Force in basic training) and we weren't clever enough to figure out a "Change Arms" drill as your army now has with the SA80 drill! Well done for that. Back in our day you just marched until your arm fell off!
    I noticed that the New Guard commander led the troops yet the Old Guard commander trailed the guard. What is the historical reason for this? My mind immediately jumps to some kind of disciplinary reason like he has to ensure that no troops decide to "peel off" and stop at a pub on the way back to barracks😁.
    Attending one of the British armed forces prestige parades such as this or the trooping of the colours is definitely a bucket list item of mine if we could ever reach some kind of parity to the UK£! (Somewhere around 20:1 atm)!
    It's always a pleasure to actually watch a parade because as you can imagine after 37 years of military musicianship I can count the amount of parades I have actually watched on 1 hand!
    Sorry, 1 last question. How long is a band detached to the unit at the barracks for this assignment? Does 1 band have to do this parade every day that they are there?
    Anyway, thanks for the wonderful video and well done to the "Tiffie" guys and gals on their professional performance.

    • @highpath4776
      @highpath4776 2 роки тому +1

      Cannot wholly answer, I noticed the older players , unless territorial - apparently this was a REME unit, so quite a few desk jobs as radio planners, servicing, comms, internet etc around inside the UK so its not a total feet on the ground ready to go unit. For getting to UK , IF still playing it looks like commonwealth nations are guesting guard duties at UK royal palaces - so maybe a word in your COs ear to see if can get a gig in the UK - or for Military Tattoo - sorry prob a working holiday but I would imagine the travel would allow a week travel about at the end of a tour ? Ahh - someone said the band is Royal Corp of Army Music, which then presumably they are scorers, maintainers, logistics for music supplies and events and so on.

    • @apearce1810
      @apearce1810 2 роки тому

      @@highpath4776 yes, I see there was a Canadian artillery band there at one stage. I actually played with them in Korea in 2000 as part of a "Peace Tattoo" to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean war. I was in the South African Air Force band then.
      If I remember correctly we had the Royal Engineers band in Korea as well! I wonder if it was the same band? A great bunch of guys and we were all in the same hotel together and all the commonwealth bands used to drink together in the same bar. There was a band from each country that fought in the Korean war. As far as the commonwealth countries went there was the us and the Canadian artillery band (they were a territorial band), the Royal Engineers band, the Australian Air Force band and the New Zealand Navy band.
      Our bands do travel internationally occasionally (generally combined banbs in the army at least) but budgets are tight this side and demographics also form part of the process and only 10% may be white (an acceptable issue in my mind having been part of the apartheid regime!).
      Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it.
