  • After going back on forth on adding sound deadening to the S13, I decided to go full send and orders a ton of Second Skin products. In this video I get most of the Damplifier Pro mat down through the main portion of the car and start laying down the Luxury Liner Pro, which will block the sound.

    Even with the car basically torn down to a shell you somehow fell into the "while I'm in there" trap... I've been working through my own for a really long time now... It's a horrible disease that can really extend the time it takes to complete a project car!

      Oh man, I feel this... but we live and we learn! I had a zenki S14 previously that could have definitely been saved but like you said, I didn't have the funds or knowledge I do know and just went about it ALL wrong. There's some videos of that thing way back on the channel haha.

    I love what you are doing with your 240 and your videos make for excellent tutorials. I'm in the process of replacing the carpet in my '89 coupe. After watching your video I feel like I know where the traps lie. The part of the video showing the dash removal was most helpful. It would be great if you made a separate video (slowed down of course) on the dash removal, dealing specifically with the A/C vents and defroster vents. You mention running into trouble with what I believe was the removal of the defroster vents on the top of the dash. I know these get more fragile with time. I assume you broke one or both in the process. It would be interesting to hear your recommendations on how or how not to remove the vents. Looking forward to more videos. Thanks.

      Thank you, glad you’re enjoying the videos! Feel free to message me on instagram with any questions, always happy to help where I can. And the defrost vent was the only challenging part, but if you remove it from the center where it splits you should be good. I tried to remove it from the outside she broke one of the bars in the center on the driver side.

    Not trying to be a Negative Nancy, and some might disagree with me but, why wouldn't you remove the factory sound deadening before applying the new stuff? It isn't hard and you would benefit from some weight savings, maybe not a whole lot but, some! Regardless, i love these cars and i love where you're going with it!

    • @avengednick
      @avengednick  2 роки тому +2

      Good question, my thought was it can only add to the dampening. Would it have saved weight? Yeah, but that’s why we add horsepower haha

      @@avengednick Weight reduction is a bonus (think something in the order of 20kg), but the main reason to remove the oem heat-activated tar-based tiles is to get proper adhesion, the same way the vendor of the new material recommends rolling it into every nook and cranny.
      The new butyl tiles and the oem tar-based tiles both aim to dampen panel resonance by adding mass to the panel, but you're only adding mass to the panel if the product is actually bonded to the panel. If it's improperly adhered or not adhered at all, it simply acts as a weight sitting on top of the panel and doesn't increase the mass of the panel itself.
      The oem tar sound deadener was originally applied using a heat gun, so it has a lot of drawbacks beyond the smell. Having done this job myself, some oem tiles could be peeled off in the hot weather and all the tiles in the boot separated when some degreaser I was carrying leaked and damaged the tar. I've also heard of them being peeled off in cold weather without the use of dry ice.
      I can't blame you for just getting on with the job; removing the oem tiles and cleaning off the residue is an all-day affair. If you're ever in the position to do this sort of job again, get 20kg of dry ice (it evaporates as you use it), freeze and smash the oem tiles off, then get a citrus-based cleaning solution (usually has a name like 'goo gone') to clean off the residue. The guys that recommend lacquer thinners haven't tried enough solvents, as it barely works and destroys any glove you use, same as paint thinners, acetone, etc. Citrus cleaners absolutely demolish the tar residue and don't harm disposable gloves.

      Congrats on the new car! And it’s a pretty extensive list and I don’t have it typed up anywhere. But as far as parts go I buy my OEM parts from Nissan Parts CC or Nizmo Parts Plug. If I can’t get it stateside and have to order it from Japan, RHD Japan or Nengun are my go to. Aftermarket parts Drift HQ or TF Works. Hope that helps!
