Great tips, been surf fishing for about 7 years, pro ably first 3 or 4 didn't figure out the fish bite trick especially for keeping shrimp on. Even better, use some bait fish skin to keep it on, easier to get off, and adds another scent.

Great video. Thank you, I’m new to surf fishing (Colorado native) and it’s thanks to fisherman like yourself that I’ve been able to catch! I really appreciate that. My background is light spin and fly tackle, so there is a lot to learn. It’s great to have a resource like yourself to speed the learning curve. Thanks again, I’ll be watching for more.

Just wanted to say i have watch alot of your videos and I subscribed cause you really know what your doing and I enjoy watching your tip videos. I'm working on learning your casting method. I can cast about 200 ft the way I cast but I believe your method can get me out further if I can perfect it.
Great trips thank you. A lot of tips vids talk about rod brands, rod length and lure weight and reels. What about line Weight + rod length + action +power and lure weight. For example I see rods that are 10ft medium power moderate fast action with 10-20lb line Weight and 2-6oz lure capacity. Then I see 10ft 6” rods with 30-50lb line Weight and has lure weight of 1-3oz medium power medium action. That really confuses me because I’m looking for a good 10ft 6in maybe 12ft spinning rod that I can comfortably handle but at the same time use both lures and bait, 2pc rod and reel setup that is about 2lbs max weight and budget in the midrange pricing about 550$. Why does a rod have 20lb max line Weight but has 6oz max lures? And on the other hand a rod with 50lbs max line Weight and has 3oz maybe 3.5oz lure weight? I understand that the power and action has a lot to do with those line Weight and lure weight rating. But what about the weight of the fish and the strain it would put on either of those rod ratings? Is it practical to bait fish on a 3.5 oz max lure weight rod with let’s say a 3 oz sinker and let’s say shrimp or squid basically small size bait ? Would you still over load the rod? What sinker weight is good for rough surf conditions? What about those 12ft rods are they practical for using lures like top water poppers and 2oz sp minnows. Are they too bulky to use? I’m sorry for the long comment. But all these types of rods and ratings and lures are a bit confusing. I really don’t know if I’m making anything sense here 🙈🙈.i hope someone can clarify i know im overthinking a bit.
Howdy. I'm looking to upgrade my surf fishing setup and I needed a few tips. I'm planning on getting something like the PENN Battle ii 6000 for my reel but have had trouble finding a good rod that is relatively cheap. I fish redfish and sharks in the surf of SC and was also looking for some good hard and soft lures to throw into the surf with my 9' rod while I wait for a bite. You got any thoughts? Great video by the way!!
Zcheryl Caponpon that’s all going to depend on your reel and the line “test”.. The smaller the reel the less line that will fit on there. And the higher the “test” the thicker the line, therefore the less that will fit on there. If you’re just casting from the shoreline there isn’t any real measurement. I’ve been fishing for 20years and never found an exact number. Just load your reel up until it’s full and you’ll usually have line left over and plenty to cast with.
