Sending positive thoughts out into the universe, Ben, you will own an FF and a 4.7 GranTurismo and much more. Your kids will one day look back on your videos and your passion for cars and more importantly for your family, will make them proud!
What sold this clip for me was the look of absolute delight on your daughter's face whenever you gave it the beans. The sound of that engine is second to none. I remember the old Top Gear clip where Clarkson told May to shut up so he could hear the howl of a Quattroporte being driven at full chat by the Stig. Pure opera!
If I had to have a single car for all situations it would be a GranCabrio. As it stands I'm hoping to keep it separate and my #1 pick for a replacement daily to go alongside my Alfa Romeo Spider is a gen 5 Quattroporte (late S or GT S). It's such a bucket list car and engine in particular. Thank you, Ben, for bringing your perspective to the world of automotive UA-cam, and I hope your channel keeps growing so you can land yourself in that 4.7L V8 someday.
It always makes me smile when your daughter nods off on these reviews, no matter how loud the car is. She obviously finds being in a car comfortable, which is good sign for a future petrol head 👌 For me there are two cars that undeniably look better as a convertible rather than a coupe; the Jaguar E-Type and the Chrysler Crossfire
One of the best things ive found about using a convertible sports car with kids is the fact you can literally just drop them straight in to the seat with the roof down on nice days. I bet you could even get my babyzen pram in that boot (just). What a car. Even the interior cant take away from that noise!!
Ben, if treated properly, the clutch of the MC gear shift does not need to be replaced more often than a regular clutch of a sporty car: 1. Like with any robotized manual, try to prevent crawling through traffic jams. The clutch remains engaged to roughly 7km/h (under 5 miles/h). That is, if commuting on highways, leave a bit of a gap to the car in front of you to close the gap with over 7 km/h. But then again, such beauties are a waste for commuting in traffic jams anyhow. 2. As per the user's manual, you are not supposed / don't need to lift the throttle for shifting with the MC gearbox. If it is too jerky, just calibrate the clutch yourself (see below). 3. To calibrate the clutch yourself for free in less than 15 seconds, step on the brake and hold it. Turn on the ignition and keep on holding the brake pedal for 10 seconds (do NOT turn on the engine). This makes the clutch sensor measure the clutch wear and recalibrate the clutch. You are welcome!😊 4. Following the procedures above, my Granturismo S with the MC gear box had still 60% of the usable clutch layer left when I sold it with a mileage of 90k km (56k miles). And this despite the fact that I do not know how the previous owner treated the clutch (crawling in traffic jams?). I bought the car with a mileage of 40k km (25k miles).
In the rear armrest is part of the acoustic box for the rear subs and because there is no longer a flip-down armrest. I had to repair the speakers in my '10 Grancabrio.
How did you repair the rear speakers/subwoofers? Mine are blown and removed because I could not find a reasonable replacement. I have a 2012 US model with the two speakers.
@@chrispoulos6448 Yes, the factory glue used to secure the center dome (dust cover) on the speaker separates and can cause the dome to crack. I used a high-quality glue, Rhino Glue, to resecure the dome and repair the crack. The fix has held-up for over two years with no more crackle/buzz sound with the volume up.
so this was a garage queen. Owners say these cars should be driven, the engine is bullet proof but they don't like being parked for long in the garage. A beautiful design. Tnx for the video.
Hi Ben! Andy from California again. Loved your daughter's reaction to the GranCabrio S! Such a darling child and smart too. Your comments on the looks of the GranCabrio S vs GranTurismo coupé S I totally agree with the coupé is a 10/10 and the GranCabrio S is a 9.5/10. The alfresco driving and sound made my choice between the 2 nearly impossible, but depreciation meant I could afford BOTH! Which is what I did. In fact my GranCabrio S is Blue over Parchment with the same amazing 15 spoke Trident wheels like you example in this review. My coupé is Bordeaux over tan. Both 4.7 ZF cars and both under 13k miles. With regard to your question of coupé vs convertible looks, there are few cars I think looks better as a convertible, one is the Jensen Interceptor which I think looks ungainly in coupé form but better as a convertible. Another possible exception is the Triumph TR7/TR8 (the latter my dad owned in coupé form) which I think look better as top down roadsters. IMHO. Love your channel and videos. If you ever get to California, you can take my 2011s (Coupé S and Cabrio S)out for back to back drives if you'd like. Cheers! Wildly under appreciated cars.
With the roof down a cabrio looks good but I don't know one that does with the roof up. New 911 looks even bulky to me with roof up and down. These big Maserati's are a thing of beauty (both GT and cabrio). Thank you both for the entertaining video!
Great video. Will definitely check out the GranTurismo review. IMO, I think the Jaguar XK and F-Type look better with the roof down. But, like the Maserati, we are talking 10/10 vs. 9/10 for the coupes. Overall, beautiful cars.
Hi Ben and Daughter, hope your doing good. That was a very cool video. I love that color blue on that car. I love the wood steering wheel too. Stay safe and take care.
I’ve had a fair few Maseratis, and I have to say, I have not had ANY maintenance issues other than the usual servicing. Admittedly, most were almost new cars or new, but even so, treat them well and in my experience you won’t go far wrong. I have a 488 spyder, and I’d say that and the huracan spyder are two of the best looking cabs out there

Ben, you should try the Sport version of the Grancabrio as the one you drove was the original and just a bit woolly compared to the improvements Maserati made to the sport.
Hi Ben, JayEmm channel subscriber from New Zealand 🇳🇿 here. As a 51yr old father of five, the youngest of whom is 6, I luv the concept of your channel. 👏 Try the W209 Mercedes Benz CLK in either coupe or convertible. Yes for me the original classic Maserati Ghibli Spyder looks better than it’s coupe version. It’s stunning. Love the channel, you really pick the best cars. Also loved your vid on the Porsche Cayenne. Want one of those badly too!
I agree completely about that V8 sound. I never tire of it in my Quattroporte, even here on the narrow roads of the Isle of Wight. Every trip is an event that gets the adrenaline flowing and make me grin. Cars that I think look better as a convertible include the Triumph TR7, the Jaguar XJ-S and the Series 3 E-Type.

Thanks for the video. I suspect the raised rear centre armrest is covering a structural beam attempting to stiffen the body shell after removing the roof. How was the car for scuttle shake? The DB9 Volante suffers from scuttle shake but the XKR and SL do not.
If you look at the back, the GranTurismo looks a lot wider than the Gran Cabrio you lose the massive rear haunches on the GC, maybe this is why the rear seat space looks to be less as you mentioned the rear arm rest which is higher but also looks thinner than the GT. And speaking of cars which look better in cabrio form, the Alfa Romeo 916 Spider looks far nicer than it's GTV equivalent.
I think that may be a design trick on the eyes, same with the DB9, the rear shoulders are highlighted by the way the coupe tapers in towards the back. Great shout on the Alfa!
so tempting... on the very possible maybe one day ticks lots of boxes sight sound auto drop top list! Is the engine in the Quattroporte the same power / sound?
There are lots of drop tops that look as good or better than their coupe siblings with the roof down, but not many that look better with their roofs up
