I'm 72 years old. I mention that for reference only. I cut my cable subscription TV 7 years ago. UA-cam has more than filled my entertainment needs. Thank you!
Uncle..you should go fishing instead of just watching. Very fun and therapeutic as well. Come to South Africa - Mosselbay and you will see Eden for yourself.
seeing the other guy catch a mahi, switching up your strategy to get one too, nailing one, and swinging it up onto the rocks is crazy work. love this channel.
Taku's taco Tuesday's, makes every taco Tuesday I have ever had seem mediocre. He turned probably the prettiest fish I have ever seen into a delicious and vibrant dish with ease. Wish I had even a percentage of his overall skill, but I have admittedly gotten better just by watching him. Thank you, chef!
I spent 2 years living on that island in the 60's. Loved it. Those rocks along the beach are a fond memory. I had some friends that lived in Oyama. I spent most of my time in Naha area. Good times.
So happy for you guys cook book done Taku seeing family can’t wait for what is coming next keeping it real is what I think keeps all of us longing Tuesday
Taku and Jocelyn, welcome back to Okinawa!! You are correct about mahi, I have never seen it in any grocery store here. You also never see it in California either. Maybe Hawaii folks eat it. We had some rainy days here 2 weeks ago, but the weather is nice now. Take care!
Okinawa was always paradise to me. I spent 1 1/2 years there in early 1980’s. Spent most of my days in the China Sea snorkeling. Thanks for taking me back there.
Love the content and I'm trying this recipe with michigan coho and whitefish! Thank you! You have a beautiful family. Very inspiring for a person who was former restaurant owner and fishermen
I can spot those cliffs from anywhere! I was just there in Sept and it's so cool to see you fishing there!! Would be the dream to meet up in oki with you. That's my most favorite place on earth 🥰
Taku, that is so amazing man. I remember catching my first Mahi strangely close to shore off Oahu. I’ve caught hundreds through the years in the Kaiwi channel but this was just strange brah. We’d just finished escorting a canoe race that started on Molokai and finished in Waikiki on Oahu. Long weekend with friends on Molokai, barbecuing our catch of Ono and Mahi at the beach house in Kaunakakai. Huge Molokai style party before the race back to Oahu Sunday morning. At first light, Hale O’Lono harbor is surging as all the escort boats were getting under way. Everyone has a hangover from the night before and it’s running as smoothly as it always does, finding our paddlers. We came in 16th I think out of a hundred fifty canoes. Our home of port is Kaneohe. Heeia. Way around the island. No problem. We pulled anchor in Waikiki the next morning and decided to slow-troll Opelu along the outer reef toward Diamond Head buoy. Wham! Smack down on the outrigger. But nothing. A (hit and miss) right on the buoy. We circled back and we got hit again but it didn’t stick. “What the hell is this? It’s a smart fish for sure. Could be Ulua, barracuda, who knows? I decided that this fish can see the wire leader and isn’t committing. So I buried the leader in a fresh Saba so it couldn’t be seen by any damn fish. Head hook and tail hook. Stainless wire invisible in the middle of the bait. Took another pass by the buoy. WHAM! Got you. It’s jumping around doing summersaults, it’s a dinker Mahi Mahi. Wild. In so close to shore. I surf out here. Never imagined a small Mahi under my feet. We trolled the Kaiwi channel for decades but this dinker Mahi off Diamond Head buoy was wild. Fish see wire and don’t trust it. Burying it in the bait is what fooled this fish. The smaller mahi are the best eating. Sweet and mild, flaky and just perfect in a garlic butter sauté. Thanks Taku for this incredible Japan adventure. There’s a reason so many Japanese fishermen live in Hawaii. It’s No ka oi. (The best). Aloha my friend. 🤙🏼
Love your Okinawa visits. I was born there in 1953 to a Chinese-American serviceman and an Okinawan lady from the China clan. Anything Okinawan is fascinating especially if it involves food. 🙂
I know you've spoken a lot about how 9/11 really messed up immigration for your Dad and it's a bummer losing time growing up with him, but when I see Mitsuki, I just see someone with such vibrancy, openness and energy. She's very lucky to have both her Mom and Dad and you as a generation older than her but somewhere in between as a mentor/brother.
Congrats on the cookbook, Taku! My dream fish to catch is a Mahi! I’m so jealous! I remember the video you did fishing from the cliffs also in Japan, I believe!
I fished off some rocky cliffs near Cape Maeda Okinawa and hooked into something very big. I saw it hit my spoon and it snapped the line almost immediately! Definitely got my adrenaline going. Okinawa is such a beautiful place!
That Taku bowel looks soo good! For me personally, all it's missing is some kind of aioli like Sriracha chipotle or cilantro lime. But, I'm sure you already thought that too 👊
Taku, We understand you have a good life. Standing with us will still improve it. We have Earned maximum fun, every day. Anyone who wishes to facilitate that fun will also participate.
awesome to know mahi mahi exist in japan waters. i always thought they were only in the gulf/mexico/florida/bahamas region. if you want them to come in easier and stay, a chum block in a bag will help.
I'm 72 years old. I mention that for reference only. I cut my cable subscription TV 7 years ago. UA-cam has more than filled my entertainment needs. Thank you!
Me too, sir! No more cable here either, mainly UA-cam and streaming as well.
Me to
Awesome! Hope you are using an ad-blocker after 7 years lol
I’m 42 and no cable in over 5 years mainly UA-cam

Seriously man, such cerebral fishing in those moments

The Art cover is kinda epic man. Props to Dwight, quite literally highlighting the simple beauty of various vital sources.

Grew up fishing the mangroves and eating off the ocean in Miami. 27 years later and I still feel pride when I cash out on a flawless fillet job.

I fished off some rocky cliffs near Cape Maeda Okinawa and hooked into something very big. I saw it hit my spoon and it snapped the line almost immediately! Definitely got my adrenaline going. Okinawa is such a beautiful place!
I’m surprised there isn’t a commercial industry for mahi mahi as sushi, it’s really good as sashimi and caught all over Japan
Good one !😮
This was very enjoyable. Japan would be a nice place to visit. Cheers, Taku and Jocelyn! 👍👍✌️#TakuTuesday
For some reason I thought your cookbook was coming out this week, I was hoping to buy one for my wife for Christmas!
Wow bro that’s a big serving, so generous. Loving to see not all asians are always using chopsticks 🥢
Mahi off the rocks, So sick!
A great family feast
I’m learning a lot from this guy! Fishing, cooking, traveling all of it
That Taku bowel looks soo good! For me personally, all it's missing is some kind of aioli like Sriracha chipotle or cilantro lime. But, I'm sure you already thought that too 👊

Well I’m trying to edit videos for my channel, and I’ve just been interrupted by an awesome video from Taku 👍👍
I just got my first Mahi off the kayak on Maui couple weeks ago. So fun
Ur killin me bro!😋Ur in Japan w/best beer and you don't do beer battered mahi? You had all the ingredients. Mahi makes the BEST Baja fish tacos.
Hi, in Poland while frying we just put seasoning into the flour (in your example corn starch) less mess, same result. Try it out :D
24:11 that dish reminds me of bacalao (fish) or any other types!
