Remembering just how advanced all the current range of Superbikes is, anyone wanting a good machine is spoilt for choice. All brilliant compared to only 5 years ago and those machines were fab. Progress beyond what most can exploit. MCN, I recall delivering a copy on my paper round back in the 1970s when MCN was nearly no more. Thank goodness MCN progressed to where they are today.
thank you for your video. always very good. I also broke the rear mirror (2 times) I think it is a design fault (you can see that the bottom plastic ends right before the beginning of the mirror, making it very weak), I mounted a barracuda D-version but I had to adapt it because the holes were not matching.
Nice to read its friendlier on the road than the older twin. Its still doesn't make sense to ride on the road though. Surly a Super naked would make more sense ? Tuono? That way you still get your V4. Better sounding as well.
So the old v-twin felt like a race bike with headlights, whereas this one feels more road-based? Not sure if I like that... I still prefer the classic 998 over the V2 Panigale. And riding the 998 was like doing push-ups on a board of wood nailed to the asphalt.
It looked stunning at the 'ring last week. Spotted it at Pistenklause and at the DN trackday with your good self. Respect for riding that across. Tank range would really bug me!
Arunweb100 thanks. Actually, now I’ve done more long distance miles it comes on between 120-140, which isn’t as bad as thrashing it on country roads...
I heard you mention this bike won your superbike shoot out but I couldn't find a video on your channel? I've been really looking forward to watching that video so if it is out please let me know!
my Tuono V4 on the road is even worse... if I get 150km out of a full tank, I'm extremely surprised; strange thing is, that it's actually quite good at the track, consumption wise. Last track day I filled up in the morning and did 140km (nearly full day) with a tank... onboard computer gave an avg cons of 6.7l/100km, which is peanuts at the track; perhaps it just means I need to ride faster............
I realise mileage isn't really a consideration on a bike like this, but 80-90 miles before needing to refuel is a real hassle for road riding. Seems odd that they'd drop the tank capacity by 1L if that's the case. How many litres left in the tank when the light comes on?
(The bike) looks gorgeous. But more Japanese than Italian, imo. Have you done that mcn 250 mile circuit on this? And why aren't the 250 mile tests posted as videos? That Goldwing test in today's mcn would be even better with a 5 minute youtube summary.
You are welcome :) My point is, that it feels like giving Ducati an unfair advantage comparing it to the 1000 cc class. This is nothing against MCN, more against Ducati for making it 1100 cc, just be more powerful than the rest. Seems like an easy (and italian) way out.
Jim 86 yeah, I think they should take the 1299, tune the engine for low-end torque, strip it and put a handlebar on it.. just like what KTM did with the 1290 duke..
What's it going to cost to do the valve shimming? Do you have to remove the engine to access the rear cyl valves? I believe the sensors on some bikes are already causing limp home mode operation. Time will tell I guess. With all the computerised gadgets , don't wear your nylon underwear one static discharge might fry something :) Nice bike tho
Coming to Croatia to grobnik track days 💪😈💪 Welcome, and have a nice ride in our country with most beutifel girls in europe best see and great food... Enjoy!!!
Preferred the looks of the 1299 more. Saw one of these in a dealer showroom and wasn't thrilled about fit and finish. For a bike approaching the $30k USD it should look as good as it performs, not to mention a mechanically noisy engine is a turn off.
Love then Ducs. I have split my time between a 996 and 900ssie since 09. Nice to see a V4 with an attainable price range. Love everything but the exposed upper frame. Just doesn't fit in and stands out detracting from the overall look. I see many a carbon fiber cover popping up online over the next year. Had that been under the bodywork it would have been a perfect looking new model launch.
I know right ? And people called me crazy when I said that RSV4 or even Yamahas Crossplane Inline 4 sounds waayy better, punchier and has a beautiful time over each spread of RPMs. This thing sounds like a Glorified scooter. And I'm amazed that this V4 pretty much gives a sound profile similar to Ducati V2 engines.
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the sound either but I love the bike so much I bought one anyways :P. But yeah, even as a Ducati owner and lover, this definitely isn't the greatest sounding bike by a long shot. I did hear one with an exhaust on it in person though and that sounded pretty dope. Not as good as the RSV4 or even the R1, but a lot cooler than the usual i4 bikes.
A performance beast for sure, but dammit how did they manage to make a V4 sound so bad? It's a little better in person, but still sounds worse than a VFR and can't hold a candle to the Aprilia.
So no test against the S1000RR? Hm And as far as it being a lot of bike for the money...maybe you ought to test it against a bike that costs a tenth as much?
AnOddGamerChannel Always seems weird that such a big publication can't afford some half decent mics and camera equipment when so many tiny channels manage it fine.
Yeah, This bike can beat so many superbikes available on the Market. But, Still, The V4s can't beat The One and Only Horse Power King BMW S1000rr 2018 Model. S1000rr Wins the Mark Again.
Alot of bike for the money,£24k!!!! What planet are these pricks living on. £24k is alot of money for a majority of "average" people with a family to support and a house to run. All manufacturers are getting greedy with the cost of there higher end bikes, most of which are just dead weight on public roads unless you have access to a track and then most who have invested that much money will be to worried to ride them on track due the the cost of repairs if they bin it.
You’re right. £24k is a shed load of money for a bike and you could have just as much fun on a £3k GSX-R750. But if you’re one of the lucky ones who can afford it, the V4 S the current ultimate in technology, speed, power and handling. We do just as many tests on cheaper bikes, too...
what a joke cbr should have never been in the lineup out of all the Japanese bikes it is the shittiest 1000cc bike on the market so the compare that to a Ducati is absolutely absurd
jpolhamus71 it’s not slow? It was the second fastest in our ‘18 group test around the track. It might not have the power of its rivals but it’s far lighter. It’s fabulous to ride. Only the V4 beats it...
neevesybikes come on man a hundred and seventy horsepower at the crank GSXR 1000 200 horsepower at the crank the other Japanese companies are shooting for 200 horsepower at the crank Honda has 170 at the crank there's a problem there

Great early review as usual. Looking forward to see she goes on your forthcoming tours.
Neevey, you're the best thing about MCN channel. We really appreciate you :)
Thanks for the kind words.Happy riding!
Nice comments from Michael as always. What a bike! Hope to hear some more news from this bike soon. Ride safe.
thank you for your video. always very good. Thanks for the honesty about problems
See one of these riding around towcester basically everyday. Very pretty bit of kit. Surprisingly small bike in person,
Good honest review, keep it up MCN.
My good, the r1m had this in 2015 6 axis imu!
Nice to read its friendlier on the road than the older twin. Its still doesn't make sense to ride on the road though. Surly a Super naked would make more sense ? Tuono? That way you still get your V4. Better sounding as well.
Nathan F yep, Tuono is the better road bike, but the V4 comes into its own on track.
So the old v-twin felt like a race bike with headlights, whereas this one feels more road-based? Not sure if I like that... I still prefer the classic 998 over the V2 Panigale. And riding the 998 was like doing push-ups on a board of wood nailed to the asphalt.
Thanks for this - succinct and informative! BTW, may I ask what riding jeans those are you pull up on in the oprning?? Cheers!
where is the superbike shootout you mentioned cant see anything on youtube or MCN.com !
I was wondering the same thing, guess it s only in the magazine.
I thought that this thing does 200 mph but why doesn't it?
wind resistance
It looked stunning at the 'ring last week. Spotted it at Pistenklause and at the DN trackday with your good self. Respect for riding that across. Tank range would really bug me!
Arunweb100 thanks. Actually, now I’ve done more long distance miles it comes on between 120-140, which isn’t as bad as thrashing it on country roads...
That's stunning looking
What riding jeans are you wearing in the vid? Cheers
Italian soul on the world streets.
make a comparison video versus the hp4.
Neevsy,
When you are planning to come to Croatia?
We have Ducati days on Grobnik race track (new surface) on 9-10th of June. Interested?
How tall are???? Just wondering because I'm 6'4 and would love to own a v4 but not sure if I would fit???
Great bike, lucky man..
Hi Michael, great review.ive just ordered mine but don’t want to spend the extra 3k on the akrapovic.does the stock sound any good?
Calum Atterwill yep, it’s plenty loud enough in standard trim!
Its all about the bushes...
80 or 90 miles isn't range friendly but how are your wrists after a 4 hour ride ?
RSV4 FTW!
They just wana crew u over
Spend 24k on bike then more then 3k on akrapovic
Honestly 2018 r1 is d best option
Idn normal guy got heart to take this bike on track days wat if they crash ur done better buy new1 lol
Do you guys have issue with V4S? Engine sometime cuts off even I am on 2nd gear rolling at 20km/h
What brand of riding jeans is Michael wearing? They look pretty cool
soopa doopa Astars Duple Denim jeans.
I will wait for the Gen2 V4s in Ducati Pearlescent white
0:28 Made me realise that you probably get free parking everywhere with the V4 because it looks like an art piece. Damn that bike is sexy!
T0BBi94 see nothing special about it tbh other than the preformance
Neevesy, what armoured jeans are they that you’re wearing?
Jay C Astars Duple Denim
neevesybikes cheers Geezaaaaa!
What helmet is he using in this video?
When are you comming to Croatia? To Grobnik? Ducati Days on 9.6.?
captcha we’re coming over early September. Staying in Rijeka and Split.
I heard you mention this bike won your superbike shoot out but I couldn't find a video on your channel? I've been really looking forward to watching that video so if it is out please let me know!

Supernova12034 I laughed so hard!!! Great one mate!!!
Rofl Supernova12034 this killed me
I wish Ducati would do a 400SS revival.
Xénos Polemistí̱s evo is good bro
Wait did he say the fuel light comes on after 80 or 90 miles....
Slade Renegade actually, now I’ve done more long distance miles it comes on between 120-140, which isn’t as bad as thrashing it on country roads...

My 848 did 90kms When trashing it around Ducati aint made for travelling
All this, but, the million dollar question is:- does it come with the Alt-Ctrl-Delete function?
Hi. I can't find your group test were is it ?
Also when new bmw s1000rr come out
Subar it was in MCN in February. New Beemer our next year.
MCN - Motorcyclenews.com
- what date do you plan to be at the Nurburgring?
I've already been, matey. ua-cam.com/video/OeGLggJgXIQ/v-deo.html
lucky man ! you must have been made up when they gave you the keys, you have always been a Ducati fan - can I have it in October when you are done ?
What a lovely machine, however I'd have to settle for an R1 due to price.
Awesome bike 🏍❤️
What riding boots and Jean's did you have on In this video?
Keyon Aigle Astars Duple Denim jeans and Faster 2 shoes.
@2:42 what is he saying?! "It feels really like a race bike with, lights. Where as this feels more road based."??????????????????????????
I realise mileage isn't really a consideration on a bike like this, but 80-90 miles before needing to refuel is a real hassle for road riding. Seems odd that they'd drop the tank capacity by 1L if that's the case. How many litres left in the tank when the light comes on?

You’re a very lucky man 😁👍🏻
...btw great job with the tail tidy. Definitely makes up for the destroyed cowl.
I think Neevesey has a soft spot for Ducati’s 😁 can’t blame him
First! love ducati bikes
In my next life I want to be a Michael Neeves.
0:50 but it is not a 1000 cc bike .... (I'll help you out here, it is actually 1103 cc)
mhyl02 thanks for your help!
You are welcome :) My point is, that it feels like giving Ducati an unfair advantage comparing it to the 1000 cc class. This is nothing against MCN, more against Ducati for making it 1100 cc, just be more powerful than the rest. Seems like an easy (and italian) way out.

thephilosopherslegacy Astars Faster 2.
Yeah.. My bush also broke mine... She did say she was sorry and will get me a new one.. ;p .
Good luck keeping it safe round London ^^
Ducati, please Streetfighter 🙏
This

Still sounds like a diesel generator though =\
Aprillia rsv4 sounds so much better, and im a ducati owner and fan
with an exhaust its amazing
I know right ?
And people called me crazy when I said that RSV4 or even Yamahas Crossplane Inline 4 sounds waayy better, punchier and has a beautiful time over each spread of RPMs.

Hehe. Yea i get it. It's pretty as f*ck. Eyegasm, pure.
Its a race bike first. stop complaining about the fuel range People.
How in gods name does a v4 sound so boring/ bad. this bike sounds like a tractor compared to an rsv4
Jacko Flacko That's the combination of the stock exhaust and the shitty microphone, I've heard it in real life and it sounds amazing.
It is because of its twin pulse firing order, every two cylinders are firing closely together so it sounds almost like a v twin
Way better in person.
Also the short range can be useful to defeat thieves :) they won't get very far on a bike with a 100 mile range/ tank lol
Sexy bike and brute too. Nice review I enjoyed it.
I sat on one of these in the dealer and I can only tip toe one foot!
Vs. RSV4
Except looks and sound, everything is nice about this bike.
Now waiting for Honda to release their RCV based RVF 1000R....
A performance beast for sure, but dammit how did they manage to make a V4 sound so bad? It's a little better in person, but still sounds worse than a VFR and can't hold a candle to the Aprilia.
LONG TERM UPDATE
- I've just got it, only done 400 miles on this bike.
What the hell?

Wow, this bike seems awesom. Great review. .."Yeshua / Jesus is the way "
So no test against the S1000RR? Hm
And as far as it being a lot of bike for the money...maybe you ought to test it against a bike that costs a tenth as much?
£24 000 - 'A lot of bike for the money'
Yeah. Alright, pal.
It’s an Italian V4 race bike with some of the best components and technology available...
Ducati's Italian? And you're trying to tell me the V4S is a V4, Jim 86? Bonkers!
Your statement suggested you needed educating.... anyway, if you don’t want the most powerful and technologically advanced superbike, buy a K5 GSXR.
And you, Jim 86, seem to be the man to educate me. And thanks for the purchasing advice! #jimknowsbest
Any time Craig
Funny part between 0:50 & 1:02 😂
I have a new appreciation for Ducati bikes since owning my XDiavel S. However, I still don't fully trust these high class ******* yet! lol
400 miles , so already filled up 5 times, other than that a great bike
Looks like thunder.. Sounds like 125
get new akra exhuast guys from ducati!
Your sound always sucks 😣
AnOddGamerChannel Always seems weird that such a big publication can't afford some half decent mics and camera equipment when so many tiny channels manage it fine.
They spend every available penny on their bikes :).
Ze Germanz because their focus is on publishing and not video?
thats a track only bike to me. if you cant carry a hoe on the back, it aint a road bike :)
Long term update....of a bike you "just" got.........
Yar D Blah yes, it’s the first update. Thanks for the comment. ua-cam.com/video/O4uRpcjtecw/v-deo.html
Helmet is bigger than bike
Sounds Castrated next to a Aprilia V4.
Biggest chicken strip I’ve ever seen
Ducatisti they’re big, aren’t they?
Yeah, This bike can beat so many superbikes available on the Market. But, Still, The V4s can't beat The One and Only Horse Power King BMW S1000rr 2018 Model. S1000rr Wins the Mark Again.
How careless do you have to be to snap a mirror wheeling the bike past a bush.
How do people think this is a sexy looking bike? I’ve seen better looking bmx bikes.
