THANK YOU! I was rebuilding my 2010 summit recoil (same recoil model) and trying to put things back together the same as I took them off... The previous owner had that sleeved washer upside down, and I could not get the retainer back on. Was going to put it in a press! Flipped it the way you installed, bam, done! No more clutch start for now.
Thank for posting repair, I was getting ready to pay 120.00 for a new assembly, couldnt find a skidoo # for the spring, thanks for posting after market part #.
Weird I just just spoil my rope on then put it on the coil and then it's good to go. I also drill a hole in the end and run a cotterpin across so it can't come apart. Also aluminum pawl is a must those plastic ones strip. Also blue lock tite on the bolts holding it on.
@@mudbrats ok i just bought a mxz 800 p tek and when i try to start it it stutters and is very heavy to start, do you think it is the spring inside the starter house or what do you think?
My one friend has a 2001 mxz 800 and I do not like this design for the pull starter. In my opinion it's a very poor and complicated design. We had so many problems with it coming apart on us many times. I've been a Polaris fan mainly because of ski doo's poor design for different parts. I'm not saying all ski Doos are bad but I think if they would have better designs in some of their sleds they would be a better sled that way
Yup rev xp rev xr rev xs rev xu all hard platforms to work around but i know how to do shit i got a 2010 ski-doo mxz 1200 rev xr got to work in tight spaces once ina while
Hello. Thanks for making the video, it is super helpful. Put my recoil back together and when I put it on the sled it does not engage with the motor. So I pull the rope, very little resistance and it coils back up but it is not turning anything. Anyone have any suggestions, I am stumped.
make sure everything is back together correctly and that the tab inside (i think its called the Pall (paul) moves freely, that part needs to swing out to catch the cogs on the engine
@@mudbrats Thanks I bough a new spring and there was no ring also. The previous owner used a pin of some sort to old stuff in place. I'm reassembling everything soon.
Buy RECOIL SPRING here: amzn.to/2y63ID4
I buy from Dennis kirk
All the time. They don't overcharge at all.

thank you you have no idea how much this helped
awesome! glad it helps ❤️
This video was a great little tutorial. Just be sure to put the spring in the way the video shows or else it’s a PITA to redo. 👍
Thankyou - and great point 🤘
Thanks for the video, super helpful in replacing the pawl that broke!
Glad it helped!
Man oh man you need at least three hands to do that job. Very helpful video.Thanks.
and then we would think we needed 4 hands! haha - thanks for reposting!
mine is not working when the engine is hot but when its cold it works perfectly, any thaughts on how to fix?
@@mvignau take it apart and see if it just needs lubricating or replace the entire unit

i would think so

@@revrush.productions what do you mean by stuttering. as in the motor wants to start but doesn't, or the recoil skips and doesn't grab
@@khaiskebo9085 yes
Mine is screwed tried rebuilding it and the only way to pull it over is to rip it hard which makes it snap most of the time
Ashton Lillie thats too bad... sounds like the sled needs to get looked at by a professional maybe?
How does that red plastic chunk hook to the actual engine?
I just bought the hole assembly but I don’t know how to hook the recoil spring to the engine. I have 2014 summit X
it just fits into the cogs on the engine when y install it - not real trick there

yep - designed to fail
I’ve found they have never made a good recoil. Even on my 80s and 90s stuff as well as newer is just junk
