I never leave comments, but this is the best video I found on how to restoring my recoil. Thanks for making it all so easy with your detailed instructions!
Most important thing - don't get frustrated, go slow. I watched a few other vids on this topic and this is the way to go HANDS DOWN. After watching this and putting everything back together on my '85 Polaris indy trail hand-me-down, I wasnt happy with how the string was being wound back up so I'm going to take it all apart and do it again and wind the spring tighter. No problem, not even worried about it. I watched this video once, thats all ya need. Good luck, you can do it too. 🤘Thanks for posting this video🤘
Popped my recoil rope this afternoon. Being mechanically inclined I decided I'd try to fix it. Like a dummy pulled my entire recoiler apart and couldn't figure out how to get it back right. Thanks to your video I think I can handle it now. Will be checking out more of your videos as needed to work on my 95 Polaris Indy 500. This is the first sled I've worked in so I know I'll be watching more.
Thank you. After an unsuccessful evening following the repair manual instructions I found on-line, your video help a lot. The next day it took me less time to rebuild the recoil that it did to watch your video. Perfect!
your video helped so much just couldn't figure out how to rewind the spring attached. Tried so many ways but couldnt get plastic wheel down. You showing the spring wrapped in metal case first did it. I even subscribed was so happy. Made my day doing my rope on a Polaris 500.
big help w/the info! it is just 3hrs till the big super bowl game and i can hardly wait to have a few beers and then on Monday calling to get some sled parts! THANKS for the video!
This video is great, so helpful. Just this past weekend I noticed a wear section of the pull cord so I'm going to replace and use this vid to help me. Thank you so much. Cheers
Seriously man I can’t thank you enough I just needed to put a pull rope on and didn’t watch any videos and some dumb reason I took that little nut off and The springs to the dog out and for the life of me could not figure out how it went back together until I watched your video thanks again
I didn't lose an eye. I didn't bleed. But, I did cry a little. The first 3-4 turns of the spring were the toughest, but after that it went right in. Thanks for the vid.
I was to the point of looking up what a not running sled would sell for and saw your vid I had tried 50 times but it kept unspooling I followed your advice and had it fixed along in time with you and installed thank you so much
thanks for posting this video made things so much easier :) and i also happend to order a muffler for my indy lite off ebay from you guys :) great deals on used parts for sure
Thanks for the video, but noticed you didn’t grease your recoil at all during the video. Does this affect the performance? I greased my entire recoil again
Doug, awesome video!! I have to say my 95 xlt use to eat ropes, probably because I had to pull on it 1000 times when needle and seats were leaking! Anyway love it, that’s how Phil lost a finger, or I didn’t end up in the fetal position in the corner!! Good work. You guys have any Kity Cat parts, 70’s vintage, rope springs etc.
i have a triple 600 xlt 1996 recoil like this and he work good when it cold but when i stop my engine after 10 minute of runnig drive.. he come free dont grip my flywheel..the dog want to clic sometime but.. a chance i have electric stater save me in wood place... what can be this problem to your exprerience ??
So I took mine apart today and boooooinnnnng it went. Tried to rewrap the spring for 40 mins and walked away. Watched this vid and IT TOOK 2 MINUTES AND ALL BACK TOEGTHER!!!!! So easy! Wear safety glasses of course.
I tried the drill method with the spring and I cut my thumb when the spring un hooked from the drill ! Fucked this shit and bought a cheap one on Ebay !
Try a chainsaw recoil..I had a hell of a time trying.! My hand/thumb cramped up so bad trying for an hr to wind it up and get it in place and stay. Holy shit! Lol 😂
Dude this was the only video that showed me how to do this without me wanting to start the snowmobile of fire
I never leave comments, but this is the best video I found on how to restoring my recoil. Thanks for making it all so easy with your detailed instructions!
Thanks man, like others have said... Your video was the one that got the job done. Appreciate the no BS approach!

I'll be honest, I've done this before exactly how you did it but it always takes 2 or 3 try's and way more cursing. That was impressive

Thanks for the video. I got mine rebuilt and still have both eyes. However, my Polaris shop charges $50 for a spring. 😳

Those springs are $50 here in Canada to buy new I just replaced mine not cheap
Find your part # and cross reference with Dennis Kirk or Royal Distributing (Canada). $10 at Royal
Sometimes when you try to take apart a recoil it goes "boing" all over the place .
Try a chainsaw recoil..I had a hell of a time trying.! My hand/thumb cramped up so bad trying for an hr to wind it up and get it in place and stay. Holy shit! Lol 😂
