  • My family has never been one to spend a lot of money eating out, so we've always made takeout at home; when I went vegan, that was still the same, except learning how to perfect plant based meat substitutes were my learning curve.
Learning how to cook and prep tofu properly has been a game changer for me in my journey. This general tsos tofu recipe is flavorful and easy to make!
Give it a try a let me know what you think!

I think vegan is the answer. I'm desperate to be healthy. Both of my parents had dementia, so I left work and had to defecate and urinate for a long time on my own. Last year, they both passed away after 3 months. It was stressful. After my parents passed away, all I had was physical and heartache. I got a brain aneurysm and two brain aneurysms on my head. I even had hypothyroidism and suddenly I gained 15kg. Anxiety disorder Panic disorder I'm still experiencing insomnia. It's been a year since my parents died and I'm still in treatment, but I've only started again. I've had the courage to share and communicate, so I started UA-cam, took a walk, and traveled. Now I want to be healthy. I want everyone watching this video to be healthy. When you lose your health, you lose everything.

I'm sorry for your loss! But vegan...isn't technically a diet. Its a belief in compassion for all living creatures. And that there is no need to exploit animals for their lives, which, are all that they have and just as precious to them as ours lives are to us. Plant based diets may however, also produce health benefits if done well and making sure you are getting enough of the right foods. Good luck on your journey!

Sorry to hear this. I hope you find something that works for you. While I have been pretty healthy my whole life, switching to veganism has helped me out mentally, physically, and spiritually. It's not for everyone. It's ok to just enjoy the plant based diet that goes with it. It eliminated my heart burn and stomach issues. But I struggled with gas the first few months because I went from eating 15 grams of fiber a day to 60-80g a day. Ease your way into that part of it. As for the person who said Jesus is the answer - I am a Christian, but remember that faith without works is dead. Praying is great, but act like you prayed. Lead by your actions, not your mouth.

I’m with the person who suggests freezing the tofu, thawing it, and pouring the water off. Then I break it up by hand, so it has “craggy” edges and “thaw holes” that help it absorb the marinate and get crunchier edges. I put a sprinkle of Chinese 5 Spice powder in my cornstarch. I add my broccoli at the end, including the peeled and cubed stems - they have fabulous crunch and texture- so it’s all nice and saucy. I’m definitely giving your sauce a try. Yeung Man Cooking has great tofu recipes, too. Peace!✌️

Brilliant timing, I see this video ten minutes after I ate and now I'm hungry all over again 😃 I've been a devotee of cornstarching (is that a verb? ) my tofu for a while, but this recipe I have got to try your technique of marinading with a little of the base sauce before completing the sauce. Once again with your recipes, I approve of you using the 'correct' amount of garlic and ginger 😄Mmm, that sauce - sweet, salty, sour, perfect.
Thanks for yet another tasty recipe that's also totally nutritionally balanced - you, my friend, are a wonderfully inventive cook and a brilliant presenter.
Just one thing; please tell me that the broccoli stalks disappear as chef's perks. I love to peel and munch them raw as is, or with a tahini dip.
Believe in good? For sure, forever. Thank you.

What beautiful cookware! That frying pan. 😢❤ But seriously, this is such a great go-to meal. Looks fantastic. 🤤
Also, freezing then squeezing out excess liquid and repeating makes tofu meatier and less... squishy. I really like it this way. Even just one freeze works usually.

Thank you Andrew this was a great video. I'm all about the simple meals and i do mine almost the same way. I can't handle all the salt in soy sauce and hoisin sauce, so I use Coconut Aminos. I have been using this great Teriyaki Coconut Aminos which is great. It comes in a blue bottle and is carried by my markets and Whole Foods. I also season my cornstarch. No flavor lost. But this is one of my staple meals and has made me like tofu more.

I think the onky thinga i would have done differently here has to do with the sides.
I feel like there would be nice contrast with the chicken if the rice has a coconut note. Maybe like some shredded roasted sweetened coconut sprinkled on top or mixed into the rice? 🥥
And lastly, I would use the broccoli stems. I like to take them, slice them thin, add some seasoning, and saute them. Their firmness has a nice bite to them. I've even air fried then covered in breading. So dope, use those guys. 🥦
Otherwise, I've added it to my food playlist. Solid stuff as always✨

Years ago I did a mushroom diet. I do love mushrooms and they are a great snack just raw. Portobello mushrooms marinated in balsamic vinegar and a little pepper, a clove of garlic and if I have it a bit of fresh basil, for 4-8 hours. Bake on a pan for about 25 minutes depending on the size the you’ve cut your mushrooms. It’s wonderful over rice as a side, or I add garbanzo beans, for a meal over quinoa. I allergic to soy and dislike coconut. It’s been an interesting food journey of being a vegetarian for 64 years.

Andrew, what is your opinion of gas stove vs induction burners? I have been a cooking with gas girl all the way - hated cooking on my mom's old electric stove. How does induction compare - I like having that quick response of gas when I want to change temperatures. Nice dish - I use tofu for Asian stuff more than anything else and love experimenting with sauces. A recommendation for deep Asian flavors that I have discovered is using black vinegar and also mushroom soy sauce - you don't need much of either one, but they add a punch of umami.

    • @thenarddogcooks
      @thenarddogcooks  4 місяці тому

🙌🏾 thanks for sharing those tips!! I love using gas more mostly for the same purpose. also the fact that I can use the open flame to do certain techniques that I can't with induction. the positives about inductions I like are the ability to hold a an exact temp. this helps for cooking things longer or needing to have overall more control. caramelizing onions, making caramel, holding simmer right above simmering point or even under to cook faster/slower, or blooming spices without burning. I find if you want that control for advance and "long distance" cooking or if you are a beginner trying to learn on something more hands on and VERY specific. ❤️

So I have never tried Tofu/Tempeh and I am now following an A type diet and it states that Tofu is my bff🤷🏻‍♀️ I think Ive been so hesitant as I feel that either its going to be rubbery, no taste and tbh “fake” lol. Some of the spices you used Im avoiding so Id like to see how I can adjust with other alternatives other than the peppers and hoisin.

I have tried to like tofu, but to me it tastes heavily chalky with a faint sourness. I just don't like it at all, and only eat it because it is an alternative to meat protein. The method here, dredging in cornstarch and frying is the only way I have managed to eat the stuff without feeling like I am choking it down.

Marinate it in smaller cubes then dredge and fry. Watch your oil doesn’t get too hot before you put the tofu in the pan it can make a sour taste.

You may like frozen tofu, just put tofu in the freezer overnight, defrost it the next day, and it will change its texture completely. It will become meatier, more absorbent, and go well with rich, soupy dishes
