AND if that isn't the reason, then here's a question for you: Do you hold SPACEBAR whilst in midair and hitting the ladder ? If you hit SPACEBAR whilst hitting a ladder you'll fall of.
So many games now have really high fidelity models and state of the art lighting but still look bland. Half-Life is blocky and low res but it has style, maybe not to quite the same degree as an 8-bit game is timeless but if you asked me which game I prefer to look at: Half-Life vs Forspoken, then it's Half-Life.
The thing about chasing "good graphics" in game development is that it disincentivizes having an art style for the sake of looking more like real life. Having a specific art style during the early days of 3D games was kind of necessary because photo-realism wasn't anywhere near achievable. That combined with the fact that there weren't any asset stores / template materials to use for everything gave the games made during that time a lot more soul, since they were each very unique and hand-made compared to the very automated methods in use nowadays. You being a half-life channel and somehow still getting lost in actual half-life is why this channel is amazing.

It also helps to hold the directional key forward for a moment to make sure the game sticks you to it.
