When I first watched this series, that part where Dr. Coomer says "Old enough to know better" then immediately goes for it only to fail cracked me up waaay more than it should have.
I had no idea just how crucial that Gmod radio effect was to the whole stream's audio. It somehow made Bubby and Coomer sound way more like the scientists, and it made Benry sound like the dude who minges on a Gmod RP server which totally fit him.
I cannot believe that Gordon's repeated mental breakdowns were actually Wayne doubling over from laughter. It's so incredible how so many things managed to mesh together to make a compelling narrative starting from nothing with basically no plan.
Tommy in my mind is the fourth wall-breaking character, the 10 year old kid that somehow joined the Gmod server by accident and everyone humors his weirdness because they're too nice to kick him
My interpretation of Dr. Coomer that answers two questions people might have, is that he IS the tutorial npc, but he's supposed to die to a barnacle, and wayne saved him, because he got the glock early, and he keeps going "Look Gordon, Ropes!" because he never is supposed to learn that barnacles aren't ropes. That's also why he's very glitchy (or at least thats what i think)
This is a stupid thing to nitpick when NPCs aren't even supposed move like players but scripted sequences (at least in goldsrc) can't force an NPC to move towards a specific NPC class, but they can have the npc go to where the scripted sequence entity was placed, meaning the sequence would have to be placed underneath a specific barnacle. Also the sequence wouldn't follow to other maps. But again, vr half life where NPCs can hear voice chat and the final boss is completely replaced
When g man says the incident wouldn't've happened if he brought his passport, he was correct. Gordon describes how it went wrong as "three samples, one test subject, kaboom" implying that multiple people in the room was the cause of the cascade. The only reason benrey followed Gordon was due to his lack of pass port. Tommy and bubby going in was also due to benrey being in there. With all this evidence, it is clear this all really *could* have been avoided if Gordon brought his pass port
Technically true, although that’s assuming Gordon is smart enough to be right about why it happened, and could someone without their passport REALLY be that smart?
One of my favorite underrated moments is when Wayne tries calling a vote for the scientist's life and asks the group to say "I", and when the scientist is immediately shot Bubby just goes "Ay, ay, ay"
And its perfect because someone does a sad vuvuzela in the background as Bubby says that. There is a few times where someone uses the sad vuvuzela to great success
15:51 "We'd be living in the alternate universe where Baaulp and I are the villains" God I *wish* we got to see Tommy and Coomer as the final bad guys.
To be fair, the threat of getting shot is something a human is quick to understand. The others are waiting, so getting into _another_ verbal argument with Gordon is not desired.

Just kinda of a fun fact about Black Mesa itself, the Science team does actually live in Black Mesa, that's why there's fast food and entertainment in Black Mesa.
I figured out how many playcoins Wayne had at the beginning, 6. He used three on coomer at the vents Then he burnt a play coin In the final act when he went back in time he used one to go back And then after that he used his last one for the SUPER-PLAYER feature!
No he ran out when he was ambushed by the grunts and his hand was cut off. He regained them afterwards. Dr. Coomer mentions Gordon running out during so.
@@sorio99 “So Doctor Freeman, let’s say- just for the sake of argument- let’s say that you are what some would consider the “right man.” Like, the right man for the job, that kind of right man. And let’s say- let’s just say you were in the wrong place, okay? You- the right man- you’re the right man in the wrong place. Let’s just say that, okay? My question for you, Doctor Freeman, is this- how could you argue that you, as the right man in the wrong place, can make all the difference in the world? Just explain that to me.”
Mad props to Holly tho!! She had Dr. Coomer's voice down so well that multiple times throughout act 1 i questioned if it was audio pulled from something else or prerecorded lines. the only thing that stopped me from believing that was the very specific lines and, of course, common sense. i think it was the consistency of "Hello, Gordon!" that made me question it again several times.
i love benrys groan. it fits so well with a guy whos just trying to fit in but has never experienced pain, so hes just trying his best. he just doesnt care
my first inference re: Bubby's name was that the second time Bubby's name comes up, Wayne says "That's not your fucking name". and Gir says "That's what I said when I was born", to himself. But I like the implication that Bubby's first words were, "That's not my fucking name."
1:32:42 For anyone curious, assuming you have to purchase additional playcoins with real money (5 dollars to 1 playcoin), Gordon uses 3 coins here, and burns 1 to be rescued from the water. He has (2) Playcoins remaining after that. So we can summize that Gordon begins the game with 6 Playcoins.
so when gordon was ambushed, he lost all his playcoins or spent it all off screen in the highlights. he didnt get that one playcoin meaning he was already in debt
@@jogolord8122 been subscribed to him for years now, ever since medieval simulator launched its playable pre alpha. Didn't expect to see him in the comments section of a half life thing!
kattastic9999 funnily enough, I found an old online friend from Scratch (the game making website for kids) in the comment section of the final act part 1 video, talking about how darnold was severely underrated or something. These videos are like a reunion lol
" This is my son josh , Im not lonely I swear , I have a wife who I made this child with . Im living a full life and im not living alone in a 1 bedroom apartment"
I love how Benry is at the concessions stand. And you just don't see him right away. Like he's in the theater, and so is a skeleton. But that first one I missed on my first viewing.
One of the most common occurrences with funny web series like this that I love is when they make random jokes in the first episode and later on build off those jokes and make them into actual plot points.
Y'know, I think watching this really clarified for me why this series is so incredibly funny and endearing to me, and it's that you mention the entire style of this like character based improv was born out of playing DnD, because this is precisely the kind of thing I want from DnD and haven't gotten to experience yet. Like this commentary and Mike's behind the scenes clips have been as entertaining to watch as the series itself because it's so obvious how much fun this was for all of you. I'm fucking so excited to see this format in HL2 and other games
I think the best part of the series is Holly's scientist voice When I first started watching it made me so confused because I thought it was the actual scientist dialogue somehow
My favorite part about your version of Gordon Freeman is the fact that his character is supposed to be like a professional like super trained this is what he's here to do type stuff and your character just kind of acts like all the scientist drew straws and he just got very unlucky and they just tossed him in there and said "here you go."
It feels like to me that this version of Gordon is like, a tired, low level employee. Black Mesa won't hire anyone who doesn't have a PhD, and before now Gordon had just been desperately trying to climb the company ladder so they'd let him do actual scientific work. And they finally said, okay, you can be a part of this big experiment. It's his moment to shine! But all it is is him being shoved into the line of fire because they see him as just a body, something disposable. Then throughout the course of the series he leads this team of fucking crazy and high up employees and blasts his way out of this black hole of a company. He's still miserable but y'know, ya can't be picky.
@@staticalmite624 i never said it did. i was just saying that its not weird for a shit ton of things to happen in one day. i didn't feel the need to mention that hlvrai took place of the course of multiple days because someone already did.
He's survived radiation, hostile alien forces, a military warzone and a fight with a giant floating baby and a giant testicle spider. I think bullets would be welcomed at this point.
When tommy said “ it was all instinct Mr. Freeman. I’m scared!” After blowing away numerous enemies, I just sat there and said. “ a very logical reason for self defense.”
It'd be cool if they got custom HL2 models made for each character, and if Gordon asks about why they look different, Coomer just says they got a budget increase.
My favorite part of the whole series was in act 2 or 3 when coomer was like "These look like ropes, but they may actually be barnacles in disguise. Look Gordon, ropes! These can be used to help across large holes."
56:33 This is a bug with the Source Engine. For some reason when HL1 was ported from whatever engine it was developed on to the Source engine NPCs would make pain sounds at random. They weren't taking damage, but they thought they were.
If someone told me the other week that my new favorite series would be a playthrough of half life vr with the npc's being absolute psychopaths i would not have believed them

For anyone curious, assuming you have to purchase additional playcoins with real money (5 dollars to 1 playcoin), Gordon uses 3 coins here, and burns 1 to be rescued from the water. He has (2) Playcoins remaining after that.
So we can summize that Gordon begins the game with 6 Playcoins.

My favorite part about your version of Gordon Freeman is the fact that his character is supposed to be like a professional like super trained this is what he's here to do type stuff and your character just kind of acts like all the scientist drew straws and he just got very unlucky and they just tossed him in there and said "here you go."
To be fair, I’m pretty sure Gordon is actually supposed to be halfway between the two.
Now that the series is a *HOOT,*
Its time to focus on the bigger picture...
