Chastain is my points playoff pick if he doesn't win. He's showing some amazing speed, he even got more points out of the Vegas race than Bowman did for winning
I agree, but at this rate we’ll have 16+ winners this season
I hope he keeps it up
I could see Suarez doing it, too, and maybe Jones if they can actually finish a race. RCR affiliates really brought the speed this year like they never have before.
Him or Reddick.
Chastain at the moment is running too good to not win a race. Reddick is in this category too. It appears just a matter of time before both earn a win.
Having Briscoe vs Reddick vs Chastain was crazy awesome. Not your usual suspects
I absolutely loved it, I believe these guys won't be strangers up front by the end of this year though.

Blaney’s pit crew lost him that race. Yeah he sped early but he fought back but lost a ton of positions in the pits.
He got back into the lead AFTER the penalty
Same can be said for Elliott, and then he spun out

It was a pretty great race great to see Chase Briscoe win!
He is also the 200th first time winner in NASCAR.
Which is a title well deserved for Chase Briscoe. He's legit one of my picks to win the championship this year.
That’s incredible 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
@@imrustyokay chase Briscoe will not make the final 4
This was imo the weakest cup race this year. But it was still a really good race. Definitely intrigued about Atlanta next week, and congratulations to chase briscoe first of many wins in cup.
Agree in this being 4th of the 4 races, but it would probably be in the top 10 of last year.
absolutely was, broadcast was terrible glad danica wont be there next week on that one long green flag run they had no idea how to call the race which made it seem worse than it really was. atlanta should be a good dose of change, you got gordon in the booth and a repaved atlanta track. eric isnt wrong about the pre race stuff though its at a low right now and as a guy that watches other sports leagues pretty heavily nascar needs to take a few pointers. race 7/10 broadcast 4/10 pre race 1/10
@@sumswaggaming yeah the fox pre race is pretty cringe right now. On the bright side we do get formula 1 and Indy car next week both have good pre race shows

I agree with your Tyler Reddick final four appearance. This kid has serious talent! RCR has great things going for them, fast cars, fast pit stops, team morale is high, and hungry and super talented drivers!
Austin is good but he's not super talented
No, He has not chance, he isn’t really good at martinsville, and I don’t think he will make it to top 8 anyway. He barely got in to the top 16, and got out first round. He might do well with the next gen car but I don’t think it will be long until the others get fully used to it and start ripping wins and outperform him.

Overall, this Phoenix race has been pretty great! Congrats to Chase Briscoe for getting his first win of the NASCAR season along with leading laps at Phoenix! Haven’t seen the #14 car in Victory Lane since 2018 with Clint Bowyer! So glad to see the #14 car return to the finish line! This made my day! 😃
Briscoe has been so quick and impressive throughout the first few races. Plus he was running decent here in the 2021 championship race before wrecking, and obviously he’s been strong with this new car.
Shows what qualifying and practice can do! I can’t wait to see how much farther Briscoe takes this momentum
Busch brothers had 10-15th place cars and both are in the top 7 great effort by them
First 90 percent felt like a gen 6 race, but the finish was excellent. An upgrade from previous phoenix races.
I think that’s an issue with pj1 on Phoenix. It seemed like the restart the bottom was good but the guy up high on the pj1 always had more momentum
Today goes to show that traction compound needs to be a thing of the past. Can't create a dominant lane. Let the drivers search for grip instead of having it given to them
I hope they consider that. If not for the championship then maybe for 2023
Only track that needs any sort of compound is concrete Bristol
@@ianperry9598 I agree with that since the banking was changed and grinded
Audio was great man, agree with what you said. Probably a 50-60 on the groovy gauge for me. Bitter still that Phoenix moved the start finish line, it’s alright for a championship race I guess. Thanks!
The horsepower discussion at 9:15 is definitely interesting. The broadcast never addressed it I don't think so that's a good point
Actually I looked into it and it’s not really a factor. The average speed of this race compared to the 2021 finale were both 100 mph. And the biggest difference since the reconfiguration is only 100 to 103 mph in 2018. So HP doesn’t really play a role
Nice old school Ray's hat. Great to see Briscoe get his first cup win. Frustrating that Blaney's pit crew keeps having issues.
It’s only a matter of time before Trackhouse break through. Chastain with strong pace again.
I do think it was really cool to see three drivers looking for their first win score 1-2-3 today. And two of them from some not so richly funded teams. I think there might be *something* to this “parity” goal NASCAR is marketing. Side note - where TF did Kurt Busch come from at the end to grab top 5?? No cameras on him all day and it looked like he was running 10-20th all day. Wish I could have seen a little of that story line.
All the umbrellas being put down at once! That was impressive Eric!😂
Facts: almost like a edit cut. Didn’t even see a person in the area. Maybe Phoenix has it electric. Hit them switches.
It was a good race. People complain because there wasn't constant wrecks and 3 wide racing every second. But this is a real drivers track. They were playing with brake and throttle and wheeling the car. Passing was hard at times. But the good cars were able to make their way through the field and there was side by side racing.
Exactly .. these is no other fan base that complains as much as Nascar fans
Great race ! Any one of those 3 is a good win. I think we are witnessing a changing of the guard. As a long time race fan, I like it! Go Ross !
That was awesome to see Chase win!
Great video as always, Eric. Thank you so much for taking a picture with me. My dad and I ran into you as you were leaving the infield, right by the garage. It was great to finally meet you.
I thought the final stage was better than the other two. And I'm so glad they were able to use the dogleg.
Briscoe is the 4th different driver that win and 2nd first time driver win this year. I see Reddick, Chastain and Suárez win this year.
I do see Suarez winning too. He has shown very good promise in previous years and he has never been given the chance. I think this year in a great car he will do great things.
@@CutterGuard his crew chief changed so much with Gibbs, and with SHR, they never gave him time to develop. This isn't really new though, there were so many times last year that he was running top 10, maybe even top 5, and either got penalized or got taken out in a wreck. He's been running good for a while
Considering daylight savings kicked in this week, having a slump week was a good thing. Got a good nap between greenflag and the last 80 which was when all the excitement happened.
Always love to see 1st time winners! Very happy for Briscoe and SHR! My weekend plans went out the window so I sadly missed the race! Looking forward to watching Atlanta for sure though to see how the new configuration plays out!
It's good seeing Reddick and Chastain in the running. This new car has really surprised me and the racing has been great. If this continues I can see some veterans getting really annoyed as the season goes on.
Let’s go Chase! 🔥
As a Kurt Busch fan, I just have one thing to say right now: How?
As a Kyle Busch fan we had speed
Kurt is a great wheelman and will make any team better.
Kyle Busch is better
Yeah lt looked like Kurt was finish 18th or worse throughout most of the race, but he's Kurt and he drive his ass off. It's also obvious that it's the Toyota issue that's costing Kurt all race long competitiveness.
Phoenix should absolutely not be the championship race
NASCAR’s season should end at Darlington on Labor Day Weekend.
People are underrating Kurt Busch this year. Yea he was running mid teens this whole race but that pit crew is a mess and all the Toyota cars are off. He, in a 23XI team, was the leader in the Toyota camp. And has been one of the top Toyota cars to start this season
I often under estimate how good cup drivers are when you can take some of the back half drivers of cup and they can dominate exfinity
Cool to see Briscoe win
man Eric you gotta go back and hear the awkward argument between Danica and Clint about how IndyCar is better or something
it was like drinking vinegar
I hope Danica is not in the booth anymore. She argued with Clint last week too. She brings nothing of interest to the booth. She is about as good in the booth as she was In the car!
I've never really looked forward to phoenix since I can even remember. Some high profile moments in the past but ehhh... Definitely would like to see a different track host the championship. I don't know if people are all that excited to say the final race is at Phoenix
Danica is a bad commentator but Clint does her no favors. After she says something he just ignores what she says and continues with his own point. They have absolutely no chemistry.
WOW
Tony Stewart Comes Back in to Nascar and wins again
Pretty good race great finish we got 7th and Kurt got 5th
Was really pulling for Melon Man Ross the Boss or Tyler Reddick, but Briscoe winning is cool. No complaints.
Great ending...happy to SHR back in contention specifically Harvick...great team win for Briscoe... hopefully this momentum carries on...bring on Atlanta!
I totally agree on the prerace garbage and the lack of chemistry in the booth. On the plus side it is great to see some different drivers running up front and having early success in the new car.
Reddick is by far the best younger driver to come into the series the past couple years… Hopefully he’s able to finish these races here soon
How many times is Blaney pit crew gonna cost him races? When will they make some changes?
@@johnhaas2523 true but they screwed him a lot last year and they've been worse this year. It's nothing surprising anymore with his crew
1:03 Anyone else notices that
seems like eric waited for the guys to bring the umbrellas down lmao
Kyle Busch has three top tens out of 4 races. I hope he can keep that up.
The first race I’ve been to in years since I was little and Jeff Gordon was still racing. the new cars are sweet in person and I enjoyed the race even tho I will say it was probably the least exciting race of the year, the live atmosphere definitely made up for it. The ending was exciting tho and I’m happy to see a new winner… I’m excited to have a chance to go to Sonoma this summer and see these cars on the road course.
Next week is goin to be interesting, a superspeedway package at a 1.5 mile reconfigured Atlanta should be the most interesting race in the early going for this season. Though I'm definitely looking forward to the first road course race.
we have super atlanta, cota, martinsville, richmond, dirt bristol, and talladega coming up.
the next 6 weeks are gonna be lit.
@@hunterpro_1 Except for dirt Bristol, even if it is a good race, it's being run on Easter, so most fans won't watch.
'grats to Briscoe. As much as I wanted Elliott to win this race, and as close as he got, Briscoe was just faster. They really had one of, if not the best car today.
I feel like whoever got out front had it. Hard to tell who had the "best car" Leader would just run quick laps while everyone else lost time trying to pass
I feel like the #9 is spinning at the end on purpose twice back to back weeks
How did he not mention Byron? He was upfront, led laps, won stage 1, and then in the last 40 laps he faded to about 15th place. Eric is that not worth a mention?
I’m a Byron fan, for some reason people just don’t pay attention to him or give him much credit
24 is having issues in pit this year . He is losing too many spots
My bad for not mentioning the stage winners. It's tough to mention every single driver each week but Byron was up front enough I should've talked about him a little.
@@EricEstepp It doesn’t really matter anyways
@@Kira-zy5ue he’s had put crew issues for two years now last year as well .. never seems to get a stop that jumps him stops like other drivers
Good to meet you today Eric. I had the Davey Allison shirt on, named Daniel.
Great to meet you too!
Thought it was funny that in one shot all the umbrellas are up then in the very next all of them are down😂
It felt icy between Bowyer and Patrick this week. Great last week but not enjoyable this week.
Danica can’t stop bringing up Indy car
I wonder how the racing would of been without the traction compound on the race track
We knew the race would be won on pit road… but I didn’t expect it to be won by a Stewart Haas car. I’m very proud to see it. Followed NASCAR and Tony Stewart for 20 years now
Today was the first time I've actually been frustrated with a fox broadcast, despite popular opinion. A battle for the lead was just getting spicy with Elliott closing in on Briscoe, and fox immediately goes to commercial A side by side commercial mind you, but frustrating nonetheless
I was there and I thought it was pretty good. Watching the broadcast through a recorded version did not highlight the many battles further in the pack so theres that. Overall, definitely a fun race
Just by watching this race I cant say i'm excited for the championship race either.
You didn't mention Kevin Harvick tying the record of most consecutive top tens at a single track
The biggest 2 gripes or observations I have after these 4 weeks are that fox has not once mentioned the "crash clock", nor has that "PJ1" stuff been brought up. Are those still a thing this year?
2021 first 4 races: 2 first time winners.
2022 first 4 races: 2 first time winners
And Kyle Larson won the 2nd Cup title 😀
@@realbaron5714And Lsrson will keep getting DNFS
Actually, the first 2 Races in 2021 had 2 first-time winners.
@@heidtxtreme1648 Im just saying last year looked the same after 4 races
@@OGSharpshooter317 Yeah, I agree with you. We might see a lot of first-time winners this year the way things are going.
I was completely engaged the last 100 laps. I enjoy the phoenix races even the outright blowouts. There may not be passing but there’s strategy and multiple attacks angles on the track. Good race 👍 only complaint was the booth/Fox. Bowyer stepped on Danica so many times and of course the prerace was pretty cringe
Kevin Harvick had a STRONG run.
Great job again Eric. Spot on. I think cause you are so genuine, folks like to watch you. FOX is still killing NASCAR. Seems like they go out of their way to give us the 'see nothing, in-car cam' while we miss anything going on. Although, not a lot going on at Phoenix. Imagine if there were no restarts!? Yikes! Zzzz.
Talk about a parade. Booth was better this time. At least they watched part of the race(Where's Leigh Diffey, when we need him?)....
Totally agree. The lack of passing in the top 5 made for a somewhat boring race all day. Pit lane was where the most meaningful passes occurred. The #9 team went from 2nd to about 7th with a slow left rear and that was his race out the window. The #14 team was on point for the last 3 stops and won that race for them. Briscoe did perform on the restarts to maintain his lead. Team effort for sure. It was cool to see the 14 the 1 and the 8 battling for their first win. That was the only excitement in that race.
It would have been even better if it came down to Chastain and Reddick for the win with Chastain narrowly taking it at the line, but Chase Briscoe exists.
Good to see the 4 competing up front!
Hey he was 50-1...Congrats to Chase Briscoe, SHR and me.
Eric I liked Phoenix Raceway when the the start finish line was on the backstech and it had all the grass a round the track
Ross Chastain:
Las Vegas 3rd
Phoenix 2nd
Atlanta 👀
Chastain could win in Atlanta 😎
I agree
This car has made a believer out of me the racing has been phenomenal to this point but Im worried about next week's Atl race with restricter plate racing on a mile 1/2. But happy for Chase
It was an average race but damn I'm so happy for that 14 lol especially after last year
Absolutely right about the prerace and Danica 🤮
Didn’t hear Kurt’s name during the broadcast.
This season has been absolutely great so far
Well… I am bummed I didn’t see you in Phoenix today. :c
butttttttttt I had an amazing time at my 1st cup race in 10 years! And 10 years ago, I watched the 14 win at Daytona!
Also phoenix races have no variation. They have lights there but both races are during the day, makes it monotonous especially with the slow paced racing it provides imo
I was surprised with HMS. Larson had a top ten car but never really competed for the win, Byron ran up front most of the race but then his car fell off a cliff (and he lost like ten spots total on pit road by my count), Chase Elliott had a horrible final stop and then spun, and Alex Bowman was Alex Bowman. HMS just didn’t really show up today, which doesn’t bode well for the Championship Four.
I'd like to know what y'all think but I feel like this is the most talent the cup series has ever seen
It was exciting! Not gonna lie I was glad for Elliott, Larson and Blaney to not be in contention on the final restart. 3 drivers with no wins, and Kevin Harvick, on a winless streak. Happy for Briscoe!
Elliott managing an 11th place after spinning late is commendable
Not spinning would be more commendable.
@@GrandpaShark obviously but at least he didn’t drop to the 20s and salvaged something
half the field was a lap down, that’s not impressive
First time that my favorite driver wins! The wait makes it so much better.
With the two open spots in SHR in the next few years, I think Noah Gragson might be one to switch into that ride. With no vacancies at HMS in the forseeable future, I think that SHR is the only viable option for the guy.
@@johnhaas2523 Truex already has the bass pro shop sponsor in cup, and BRC is already on the 42 in cup. There would have to be some big changes in order for Gragson to keep his sponsors stepping up.
Hes my favorite xfinity driver right now, along with Josh Berry. Id hateto see Gragson take a slower non competitive ride just for the sake of getting into cup. Hes making some cup starts this year so looking forward to that!
@@yeteasybricks3097 I don’t think they really care, AD also gets sponsorship from Bass Pro Shops
I'd go more for 80 percent if I'm honest. Kyle Busch starting the race off running the apron like he did where no one had confidence and making it work, then watching everyone follow suit on future restarts was great racing. I definitely see your point on the passing part, it did feel a bit lacking compared to Auto Club and Vegas
Another thing that's frustrating about FOX is, they aren't showing pit times
@@johnhaas2523 It is fun to keep up with whose crew is doing better
Just happy these 2nd year guys and even 3rd year guys are getting much needed Practice
Some good racing
Love the rays hat!
I’m guessing SHR will go for a vet driver and a young driver. Preece or Erik Jones and possibly Gragson if he can bring Bass Pro on board.
I think I expected you to regard this race as something of a "meh" and I can understand that, but as an old timer, I have to say I enjoyed the long green flag runs and the racing that produced. My biggest disappointment from this race is as a Blaney fan and that is the sub-standard pit stops Ryan Blaney had to suffer through. It wasn't until the final stop his crew even managed a par, he only beat out Elliot because Elliot himself had a poor pitstop. As a fan of Roger Penske's organization since the early nineties, I think Blaney is getting short changed by the pit crew and that cost him a better result than he achieved.
Trackhouse has been impressive to start the year
Elliott and Blaney got beat by issues on pit road. Happy Bricscoe won though!!
Been avoiding pre-race for the last two years. Sux!. However I do like DP in the booth. Its a fresh voice.
