Tbh I love this book so so soooo much lol and so I share none of the feelings you felt throughout this book (that said, I need to also say I am not a really fantasy person and this was my first fantasy!) but your video was super entertaining to watch!!! I love your sarcasm

found your video from readwithcindy and I'm so happy I did, I did not enjoy this book either and I wish I could see what everybody else sees. I'm actually relieved to hear somebody else say they thought it was boring, I basically finished it the same way you did, just rushing to get to something interesting, I felt like based on the books blurb what i actually wanted was like the last 100 pages as the whole book. I would say to other people who weren't impressed with this try an enchantment of ravens by margaret rogerson, I liked that a lot more than cruel prince. oh and kudos to you for planning to read the rest of the trilogy, I'm interested to see if you'll like them or not!

I actually really loved Jude which is surprising because I usually don’t like main characters especially not if it’s in first person but I just loved Jude so much

Cardon is really just JD crossed over with Heather Chandler and Jude is just as bland as Jason Grace

I dnfed this book when they drugged Jude. It was my final straw, the romance was terrible and abusive and I couldn't get behind this crap

If you're annoyed by Jude's "I did this" and "I did that, Im so awesome!" Then you haven't met Celaena Sardothien.
She spent the whole book talking about how she's a dangerous assassin but doesn't kill anyone at all. 😅😂

While I do not necessarily agree with everything you said and still really like the book, it was very interesting to see your perspective on it. See, I read it with extensive background knowledge of Celtic mythology, most especially faeries, so while I read it it was like reference-hunting for me (dancing until your feet bleed, a name is binding, the fae can't lie, iron burns them, green horses with sharp teeth that don't get specifications but are probably kelpies, etc.). I really enjoyed that an author finally managed to write a book about faeries that is not overly sexualised and where the fair folk is diverse and maintain their eerie, fey ways. That said, I can see how that can be boring to someone who is more interested in the plot than the worldbuilding. For me, who was equally invested in the worldbuilding just as I was in the plot, it was an amazing read from start to finish. I'll agree with you on the bullying and the high school thing though. I'd have much prefered if Jude and Taryn had been home-schooled, as that would have fit with Madoc's high role in the Court. Holly Black really should have found another way to draw a violent history to Jude and Cardan, but it is what it is. The following books are much less "immature" in that regard but I have to admit that stuff happens where I did yell "why?!" to the heavens. Just proves that no book, even those with interesting worldbuilding and a, in my humble opinion, decent plot are perfect.
I'm sorry that you couldn't enjoy the book as much as I hoped you would.
Also, I'm gonna agree with another comment here and recommend "An Enchantment of Ravens" by Margaret Rogerson. Plot-wise it has more to offer than "The Cruel Prince" and it definitely, not being a series, gets to the point faster c:

todd was straight up evil in book 2 but i love that about him because it's such a risky decision but it's so true to his character and he's able to slowly DEVELOP from that

Confession. I haven't been interested in reading Holly Black's books since she wrote The Spiderwick Chronicles with Tony Diterlizzi (he actually illustrated them though). I tried some of her other books, but nothing has made me want to finish them like the story of the grace children and even though those books had elements of magic in them, they still had grounded characters and real problems that I could understand and follow. Her books prior have all felt like magical realism and I'm not trying to slam her writing, her books are good-ish for their audience, but I just never got into her other works and no, I haven't read this book either.

Read the whole Folk of Air books and I find it okay but the romance was terrible. I stayed for Vivi and Oak tho. To those who hadn't read it I'm telling you now, the last two books are even more ridiculous than the first one.

Honestly I really enjoyed Jude as a character. Everybody in this book is in like a moral grey area and I'm kinda here for it. Like nobody is purely good (except Oak). I read this series at a point in my life where I was really questioning my own morals and values so I really enjoyed that part of it. I felt like I could really relate to her habit of being mentally strong but weak and naive when it came to love. And her family situation was similar to mine as well (no my dad did not murder my mom :P ).

😭😭lol, the thing about not being able to stop dancing once you start is actually a part of old faerie folklore. It’s a very commonplace thing in fey folklore for humans who are kidnapped and taken there to start dancing and not be able to stop or dance until their feet turn to stumps, dance until their feet bleed, dance for what feels like a single night and come back to earth and find that 80 years have passed etc. 😭

I only read the first chapter and I'm wondering if the writing gets better. I thought it was so fast and the diálogo was so odd(like the girl screaming 'I hate you' to a total stranger or the mother with who's suppouse to be her whatever)acting casual. I don't have a problem with the plot presented but with the writing...I feel that young people now are use to Wattpad and don't expect to much.

I pretty much agree with you on this book. I finished this book in two days. I did enjoy the writing style and I would have liked more bonding time with Orisiana(?) and Oak. I found there where too many dislikable characters when I just wanted a single character to give me a reason to care about them. I felt like I could see all of the twists coming and I was left with questions over small things that the author never fully covered like was Sophie at the coronation or not, is she stuck as a sea slave or what? I would have also like more human tech mixed with the fairy like a cellphone. I’m sure that could have been of use during her spying. I have more to say but as I just finished it I’m still deciding how I feel about it and if I will continue with the series.
