      Destiny your wrong about Trump, yes he rich, but he got that way by working with a lot of ordinary people his connection with builders and electrical engineers ect ect has given him a unique insight into everyday people. He often talks about it if you ever cared to listen.
      He has ifent given money to people to pay off their houses, he has often just handed over cash to regular folk. He remembers everyone and talks to anyone, he is not a snob, he hates the elites and never socialises with them because he knows they are trying to screw the little guy. He just wants people working and doing well. You're very cynical about him. Open your eyes just a bit and you will see what we all see a man who has a position in life that can change things for so many. He actually wants to use his position of power for good. That's why we love him.
      Also nobody else has the power to craft deals like him. His peace deal with the middle east is INCREDIBLE and deserves a Noble Peace Prize. Look into the Abraham Accords peace deal to understand.
      Then look around a ask who else could do that?
      Nobody only Trump Yeah the most unlikely person actually is the one.

    The shortened version of the talking points:
    1. People will selectively believe others, so long as it benefits them.
    2. People will intentionally be ignorant to obvious claims and truths, so long as it benefits them.
    3. People will use any opposition of their beliefs as a reason why their belief is correct.
    4. People who have beliefs often have additional beliefs that attach onto them, simply by being in an adjacent space.
    5. People assume that because two or more things can be in the same boat, that there is no reason to understand why they are, and therefore assume any opposition of one is also the opposition of the other.
    6. There is no benefit to being truthful, unless that truth actually supports your claim, and cannot be disputed.
    TL;DR
    People believe what they want to believe and will use any and every defense mechanism to avoid being challenged on them.

      From my favorite book series as a kid:
      "Wizard's First Rule: people are stupid." Richard and Kahlan frowned even more. "People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

      @@ThySheepie Listen, maybe it's because I started getting into politics when I was 13 (late 2009) so I was quite young and didn't notice as much, but I feel like the left-wing (I am a liberal left-winger, by the way) was, overall, a lot cooler and smarter back in 2010 and before. It seems like around the time that the SJW movement started taking off from the early 2010s onward, things got a lot more fragmented and split off in the left-wing; a lot more of them became these crazy types who were allergic to facts and who were really focused on language policing above all else, abandoning the general pro-free speech sentiment of the left up until that point. What I'm wondering is: maybe there was always this split in the left, even in the 2000s and so on, but it was just a lot quieter then because being PC was a lot less of a prevailing thought and the focus was much more on real issues between the traditional left and traditional right. Though, I dunno... maybe it is just that a lot of people in my age range grew up in a more digital age where things were relatively a lot more comfortable and thought that being PC was the more "progressive" thing to do because it seemed like the next step in the chain of progress to them. This might be a little bit different from what you're talking about, but what you said got me stirring on this.

    Couple of my thoughts if anyone cares:
    1) There might be a bias with the people Destiny interacts with that these conclusions are based on. These are usually people more convinced in their beliefs than the average person (that might have some healthy level of self-doubt so they don't voice them as much). These are usually people that crave attention more. The unfortunate truth is that the majority of people (that isn't always 100% sure of their beliefs) often thinks that people that talk with more conviction have a reason to do so.
    2) In addition to social incentives, personal psychology plays a huge part in dictating beliefs. Now, more than ever, people can just go online and find the social group that "suits them". There's a reason some people gravitate towards red-pill stuff as there their uncomfortable feelings about what masculinity means don't get activated. For attention craving people this might off course come off as social incentives as their personal psychology is designed to seek social validation.
    3) People don't believe what makes them feel good, people believe what aligns with how they feel. The difference, for example, is if someone has low self worth, they're more likely to believe someone telling them they're bad even when they're not because it aligns with how they feel.

    • @WanderTheNomad
      @WanderTheNomad 14 днів тому

      I think the 3rd point is just a semantics difference. You and Destiny are both referring to the same thing. If someone believes they're a POS, someone calling them that will make them feel "good".

    @dylaroo24 14 днів тому +5

    On the topic of doomer pill, I would clarify that it isn’t always as simple as Destiny makes it seem. It’s not always an easy and comfortable belief that externalises blame. I was diagnosed with stage 4 nerve cancer at 5 years old, I’m now 25 and still have cancer to this day. Because of the cancer and treatment my body is a mess. I’m male, 5.4’, 35kg, look like a 14 year old with anorexia, and am missing a ton of teeth due to chemo (chemo rots the teeth really bad, most childhood cancer patients lose all their teeth by age 30). Not only that, but I also can barely walk due to back pain and suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome (Some may remember Destiny talked about it a while ago when speaking about the situation with the Physics Girl, basically it’s a huge issue that destroys your life). So because of all these issues I spend all my time locked away in my room, I’ve gone years at a time without talking to anyone but my immediate family. So given my situation I am extremely doomer pilled about my life, especially when it comes to relationships. It’s really hard to accept since the only thing I really wanted in life was to find a partner, but I can’t really do that when there is literally no upside to dating me and I can’t really get past women thinking it’d be illegal to date me. So I’ve basically given up on finding a partner and just have to accept I’ll spend my entire life alone in my room. What’s worse is watch a lot of rom-com stuff so I’m constantly reminded how hopeless my situation is. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine, a way to at least get a taste of what a relationship would be like, even if unrealistic most of the time. Sad as hell, I know…
    So I don’t think there is anything comfortable about this doomer pilled belief of mine, I think it’s just being realistic. I also don’t externalise the blame onto women, I don’t blame them in the slightest. I’ve often said I wouldn’t want to date a girl with cancer, though my reasons are just because I think it’d be a bad idea for the relationship having two unreliable people date. For the sake of the relationship, I feel at least one person needs to be physically healthy enough to live daily life normally. So I don’t blame women, I totally get why they wouldn’t give me a second look, hell you can hardly say they give me one look considering they don’t even see me as an adult. When the biggest question I get asked in public is “What grade are you in?” which when I explain I’m 25 is followed by my most hated comment “Well you’ll be glad when you are 30” (I’ve been told that my entire life, and I constantly think “yeah, I’m sure I’ll be glad to be isolated and alone till I’m 30 and still look like a minor at age 30 basically guaranteeing I’ll be alone my whole life. Sounds like a great time…”) so I can’t exactly expect girls to look my way given my situation. More than anything even if I found someone willing to date me, I would feel so guilty creating an emotional connection with someone when I’m probably gonna die young. I don’t wanna bring someone nice enough to date me into the misery of my life. So yeah, I’m about as doomer pilled as it gets, nothing easy or comfortable about it.

      If you know how to write Markdown, then you'll like it. Obsidian is more of a barebones program that is highly customizable, which is opposite to MS Word. Obsidian has a graph view of all your notes that is supposed to make you see connections between them, but I personally think it's more of a gimmick. The best thing about Obsidian is that it doesn't have any of the cloud/telemetry silicon valley bullshit, and everything runs locally (you can also sync notes if you want). Anything can be done in Obsidian if you have enough time. If you hate slow starts, then you may hate Obsidian. Just give it a try and see how it goes.
      I switched from MS Word to Obsidian because I felt like I wasted too much time (dealing with indentations, auto-formatting, new pages, margins, etc.) trying to use it as a note-taking app when it was more of an A4 paper writer. Also, unlike Obsidian, Word can't cross-reference notes or structure notes in folders/projects. I still miss easily moving an image anywhere on the page and wrapping text in MS Word, though.

I've started to settle in on a fundamental assumption about the world, that, in practical terms, everything in life is contextual. Just saying that is a paradox, but going through life seeing things through that baseline assumption has been very good thus far at allowing for a great variety of different seemingly disconnected experiences and facts about life to coexist in my worldview. Psychoanalysis has given us some of the most incredible discoveries about the unconscious and the mechanisms that we use to deceive ourselves or avoid our deeper issues. There’s quite a bit of evidence supporting psychoanalysis, but when behaviorism came to the scene, people gravitated toward it because, in my opinion, behaviorism allows you to neglect all uncomfortable aspects about yourself, letting you deluded yourself out of thinking there is a “why” behind your behavior. Again, there's is essentially 0 evidence for genes driving our personalities and behaviors.
      You are right that psychoanalysis has adapted to current research, which is why current psychoanalysis is much better than the outdated Freudian analysis. Erich Fromm is pretty excellent, in my opinion. He is, I would argue, the greatest psychologist we have ever experienced (documented)

      There commonalities that arise from both sides being human and being subject to the same underlying human cognitive biases. The phenotype can look very different even if the underlying cognitive process is similar

      @10kanutt 14 днів тому +11

      He didn't do any both sideism here. He is specifically promoting liberalism over anti liberalism, and is calling out the parts of the political spectrum for their illiberal beliefs and how those beliefs stem from webs of belief that create alternate realities for those people. This is very much taking a side.

      You can do both things, be correct, and think the other person is a complete fucking moron. It's possible to walk and chew gum at the same time. I think the term you're looking for is "niceness". Sometimes Steven isn't very nice, oh well, he's generally correct, so that doesn't matter.

    Poor victim. Destiny is always just a victim of life. Everyone is always against him, even his devoted audience. It's so hard to watch someone be the victim to literally everything, and no one cares. 😢
    im so sorry he has to deal with this, life must be very very tough for him right now, and it all just happens to him. Never provoked, always the victim.
