I know my sponge helped me with a more feminine look as opposed to looking like Michael Evans with a flat afro. Women generally wear curls and demension, texture in their hair. Not sure what is so offensive about that.
I have never seen this done. Y'all I am almost 67 year old. Seen this style several times and never knew how it was done. I think about having this done for my short fro.
Hello Naturalistas!! :) SO happy so many of you enjoyed this tutorial! I just added links to the products used in this video to my description box. Hope this helps XOXO
This is perfect!!! Thanks 😍. I'm new to the TWA crew and I have a sponge. Most days are hit and miss. One major thing I am doing wrong is my hair is usually wet. Definitely gonna give this a try before dinner tonight.
My son and I both have sponge styles...but it works better for us when our hair is damp. We use a curl gel (can't remember the name right now...ran out a lil while ago) or aloe vera gel. When I've done it on my dry hair like this, I don't get much definition at all. To each his or her own. Yours came out really nice!
Thank you for this video Nia!! I picked that exact sponge up a few months at my local beauty supply store and tried it on wet hair. All it did was frizz my short curls out. So it's been collecting dust. Now I see I may have been using it improperly. Off to experiment! 😁
Monica Rance It worked a lot better on dry hair. However, my hair is thinner in the front and it really exposed too much of my scalp. I also experienced breakage in that same area and my hair stood up more like spikes. I really didn't care for that look on me. The back looked nice, but overall this tool is just not for me. I'm glad I gave it a try on dry hair before getting rid it though.🙂
Sanya Tonisha thank you. My daughter is the opposite. Her hair is extremely thick. I'm trying to persuade her to use the sponge but wondered if it would work on her thick hair.
You are hyping me up gurl!!! I’m adding more and more things to my cart watching your videos! Ready to slay my short natural cut!!! Can’t wait for my hair appointment next week!!!! Yesssssss! You are beautiful
I HATE finger twisting my hair and never realized I could just a curl sponge instead. You just helped me #levelup my natural hair game lol Thank you! Definitely subscribed!
White Irish girl here, but am loving this video, what a beautiful girl with awesome hair. This sponge is “magical” 😲 Who on earth came up with this great product??
Love the fact that your not using tons of different products. I didn’t understand why people use so many different products especially for a short twa. I have to subscribe.
Great job!!! I’ve been doing it all wrong! I’ve been soaking my head before curling - from now on I’ll make sure it’s dry. Thank you so much ❤️👌🏾😍 Fernelle Davis from NurtureInChrist
I just cut my hair and I did not know what to do with my hair, I was looking on UA-cam then I found your video it’s very helpful, thank you darling😍have a bless life
This also works when your hair is wet or has a lot of product in it. I do it every morning. Your hair does not have to be dry. I guess just do whatever works for you :)
I just cut my locs Saturday bc I just want loose natural hair.. But I must get this curl sponge today, and other hair products u used as well ty for sharing . I love your hair❤
Nia Hope Yes I did and it came out defined. I sprayed my hair with warm water not drenched but wet enough then used my curl define cream then my home made flaxseed gel. What I also do is spray the curl sponge with water so it won't dry out my hair while twisting.
Sweetie, you have THE BEST presentation for hairstyling etc I have seen on UA-cam ! I'm serious. I watched 3 minutes and immediately subscribed. I have very short hair as well. I was going to use a texturizer, but hate the straight 'pointys' on the tips I have to snip off. I'm definitely going to try this ! Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge Nia.! :~))
Thank you so much for posting! You are a beauty! Just purchased one of these for my son who wants to try this as hes growing out his hair. Also watched your video on the different kind of products to enhance natural curls.
Exactly what I was looking for. Bristle brush(literally 👞 polishing brush) or sponge brush coiling. 💥 boom this video finally appears. Thank you for posting!
This is the style that i plan to do while i grow my hair long enough to have dreads eventually. Is maintain this style easy as well? Do you still moisturize and sponge every morning?
That is absolutely amazing. I've never heard of such a thing and would never have known how such a thing would be used. Thank you for such a great video.
Ok...finally cause of you...figured out to start my hair DRY. Wow. Needed this!!! No more saturation prior. I have my sponge...but couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working.
So you don’t use any gel? Recently did my big chop to a twa and other videos talk about gel to help create curls. But i guess you don’t need gel with the sponge?
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I just watched a similar video on another channel and I thought it was very good, but the young lady used so much gel and creams and other "stuff" in her hair that it seemed as if there would be a great deal of buildup. I like that you use very little of any product and you achieve the same beautiful results.
wonderful job on teaching how to have beautiful nature curl I was looking for something for my son and you are my favorite. Thank you for creating this video!
This style is really nice and you look amazing in it ❤️ if you can't wet your hair much, how would you moisturize with say a spray bottle or hands? And would you suggest picking at the end? Someone told me they look better with the lift. Asante in advance!!! 💙❤️
+Otieno Thanks you very much! Someone commented that it actually worked better for them with wet hair. I would experiment on your hair to see if dry, damp or wet hair works best for you!! By "dry" hair, I just mean hair that's lightly moisturizer and not wet from a lot of products and/or water. I hope this helps!!
Your hair and your skin tone are simply gorgeous. I’m old so is that makeup or the lighting shining on your nose? Is this for hair that has different textures and does the hair have to be shorter hair? This is really a cute style💕
Please what's the name of the hair cream you applied, it's looks great, and just as simple than other videos I have come across. I'll be glad you reply with the name of the cream.
Do you know your hair type? My sister has your hair and I've been trying to find others exactly like this but I've been having a hard time. this channel is great help so, thank you.❤
+Bitch Where? I'm pretty sure I'm mostly 4b with some 4a sprinkled in (predominately around my edges! So happy these videos have helped you, thank you!! 💕💕✨
I have on question, basically they say its not good to regularly manipulate your hair strands(aka comb it everyday) however, when I don't comb it before school, it appears messy and unkept. So I was wondering if you could give me any advice on what I could do instead of combing it everyday, since it is not long enough yet to do protective styles such as twists etc. Also, I have short 4c hair, I'm a boy, and I'm from uganda. Thanks so much in advance:)
Wish I had seen this video before buying the other hair products. This worked and it was simple. Took me only a few minutes to get the curl I wanted.👶🏾
It was 0:23 where I knew I didn’t even need to watch this video anymore and go a sponge cuz your hair looks so good and I need my hair to look like that too!
I may have to pick this up. As I'm still in the TWA phase of life and although I use curl activators from time to time. I still feel like I don't get quite the definition I'm after to really call what my hair looks like a true "style". So this would be awesome. Be interesting to see if it can grab some of my more straighter hairs and put them in formation as well for me, lol.
Can u do another video using the sponge. But use the other side. Not the flat side. How long does this style lasts? Can I use 8 4 a week? Or do I have 2 redo 8 everyday?
I love this video. My hair is about That length but maybe a bit shorter but very thin on the sides, have been since I was a little kid. it never grew, but I'm gonna try this sponge out. I actually bought one today, that's how I came across this video. Thank u. BTW you're beautiful.

Me too!
I just big chopped for the third time in 4 years and was feeling discouraged about my curls (or lack thereof lol). I’m going to try this. Thank you
Great job! I'll be using the sponge brush for the first time, today! Can't wait to see how my hair turns out. 😊
