Hey Lauren! Thank you for sharing this. It’s great to be mindful enough to see that something like measuring and tracking is no longer serving as healthy of a purpose as it previously was. When I went treatment for an eating disorder, they initially had us measure our food when preparing it. But after a few weeks, the goal was to have us eyeball portions, trust ourselves, and adjust if needed. It was empowering. And if you ever want to measure something as a refresher, there’s nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn’t become a habit. Weighing and tracking my food and exercise never ends well for me personally, but different strokes for different folks. Truly. From my eyes as a weightlifter, you don’t look thin - you look trim and toned, more muscle. And you have a glow about you that’s lovely. I’m glad you’re being mindful of your needs as an individual and are honoring those needs. And thank you for sharing some moments with your sweet son. Living with MI doesn’t automatically disqualify us from wonderful life experiences and relationships, and it’s always refreshing to see some “normalcy” (I hate that word, but I’ll use it) in families.

Hi, great channel, I've been low carb to now keto/carnivorish for 6 years. I counted carb grams up 50 grams, then I just avoided carbs to avoid counting. Carbs do sneak in, especially when you assume you know a food's carb content. But experience teaches and you get better and better without counting. The more fat I eat, the less carb cravings I experience. Also, the more fat I consume, the higher my blood ketones ( I monitored for daily for 1 year during the lean mass hyperresponder study). When I took a gram of Carnitine that also boosted my ketones from my 0.8 average to 2.0 to 3.0.
That is such a smart move that you made to stop doing macros like that. I wish you continued success. I also started having lower ketones recently and was quite concerned - Nicole told me the same thing so now I miss higher ketone levels just for kicks and thinking they were for the best lol. The CGM tracking you and Rob's ketones during activities was so neat! And I liked how you showed your ketones a lot. I also listened to Taylor Swift's new album (though not uncommon lol) and read Ede's book recently. Cute personal moments too! I don't recall - I believe you're down to 40mg Latuda - any side effects? How's sleep?
The key to success on keto, long term, is heuristics and patterns. You pay close attention to your mind and body, when things feel off (because you will stray) there should be meals that you know you can rely on to kick you back into ketosis, and you stick with that meal plan for 4 days. That's a "magic" number of days with the small intestines, btw. While on your rigid diet for 4 days, you thoughtfully review (in your head, no need for record keeping) what you ate and see if you can figure out what messed things up. Then, on day 5, do your best to resume "normal" life using what you've learned. I've been on a ketogenic diet for years, and my girlfriend is figuring it out--and like you, the cost of a mistake is high for her (and nearly everyone within arms reach). She goofed a couple of days ago, allowing an exception in the late morning, went into an episode at 2 AM the following morning and was in the hospital for four days (there it is again) after getting back into ketosis. Turns out, you can't buy the cheapest full fat creamer for coffee.
A little nutrient tip I've picked up for chapped lips - it can be a sign of B vitamin (esp 1+2) deficiency. On a keto diet grains aren't consumed and that's a big source of those vitamins so a supplement helps fill that gap.
I think the reason your ketone go down with exercise is that your liver is releasing stored sugar from the liver for energy. So your body is using that for energy in preference to ketone. Yeah glycogen is stored sugar in the liver and will get turned into glucose with exercise.
I know my question isn’t about food but do you have a video on how you came to accept your illness? What the process looked like ? Or if anyone who follow Lauren can point me to the right video I would be very grateful. Thx
I know you discussed how much you spend on foods. Have you discussed how much a keto coach costs? Or how much your supplements cost? I think it would be a really good idea so people who are thinking about trying this are prepared.
start with 2:1 fat to everything else, and keep carbs 5-10% max amount of calories for each meal. Keep carbs under 20 per day, so if you eat 3 meals probably 6-7 grams per meal.
It seems a doable diet for a more healthy individual who can discipline themselves. My daughter won’t listen, conform etc , so unfortunately she is not well enough for this. Many suffering acute symptoms would not be willing or able to follow such a diet so it’s not the solution unless hospitalized and forced to follow the diet. You may have already been improved with your symptoms even before the dietary changes as you were and are able to undertake this.
Yes, she did say she was in a very stable situation in her life & with her illness, and therefore starting from a pretty high-functioning position to begin with... But I think if this truly works for more & more ppl, becoming more mainstream as a form of treatment, then ppl will view it differently and start taking it seriously even when they're not doing that well... I think, for now, it's still mainly seen as a dietary fad rather than a serious potential treatment plan (unlike the dietary treatment for Diabetes, for example).
Type 1 diabetic here that uses CGM everyday 🙋♀️ be careful of compression lows when you sleep. They’ll give you false readings. Gosh, I spend years without a CGM because they’re so expensige
Blood glucose is highly variable from hour to hour! Unless you have symptoms of diabetes and a doctor recommends it, I do not recommend ANYONE tracking their glucose level. It will just cause you unnecessary concerns. Check with your Dr!

As a genuine question, how does ketosis affect psychosis? By my figuring, I cpukd afford to do keto on my budget (not with all they fancy equipment but hey). Idk, I'd do anything to be rid of the voices😅
For her, most symptoms of the disease have subsided from what I understood, esp compared to how it was before. But she is still on a small/moderate dose of antipsychotic...
Can someone tell me how long you feel sick for when beginning a Keto diet? I tried it before and on top of my chronic illness it just made me feel so ill that I couldn’t continue.
@@ashatan4554 Yes I am and yes it's essential. @@dyawr that’s what dietitians say and regular doctors not the ones who promote this diet and make money of doing so That’s what I happened to know but who knows for sure? It’s pretty restrictive and stressful for your body so I don’t think it’s safe to experiment long term
@@lenajazuk4231 I don't know, it's an interesting opinion. I'm curious to read about that now, but I don't think Lauren & Rob would have started this if it posed health complications and could only be done for a limited time... It could also be this is just the normal amount of skepticism that comes with most new things. I mean, the medication she was on (and still is, on a lower dose) comes with a long list of very serious side-effects too... So, would this diet be worse than that if it can replace meducation? - is the question ppl doing this for medical reasons should ask, I think.
Think the main takeaway from this, is the more clean plant intake the better? The less acidosis, metals, minerals, synthetics, additives and preservatives the better and should be vegan for the animals and environment, as well as health and of others?
Rob doesn’t need to track his food because he doesn’t really need to be on medical keto Even if he eats very low carb but gets out of ketosis it’s not critical for him to
There is a vid they made, titled: "How much I'm spending on Medical Keto and how to do it on a budget". She mentions there that the food cost (just for her) can be around $287 per month, if she doesn't splurge on treats or go for organic foods & stuff like that. And they broke it down into specific foods and quantities, with the calculated costs - if you're interested. She mentioned the sum includes the food supplements, electrolyte drinks, or other stuff she takes that are optional - so it can be reduced further if these extras aren't consumed as much... (bc they're not absolutely necessary)
From their review of ketone monitors ("TESTED: Ketone Monitor Ultimate Comparison 2024"), she mentions the urine-strip type of monitor cost $10 for a box of 100 strips. A pricier option (that they also better recommend) would be the finger-prick monitor - which is about $45 for the device and then $1 per strip (you need to use a new strip everytime you test). And they mentioned this testing of ketone levels is more important in the beginning, after a while you can test more seldom & essentially guide yourself based on how you feel, cause u'll be able to tell if you're falling out of ketosis or smth. You'll get the hang of what foods & quantities work for you to be stable at the appropriate levels.
And lastly, I don't think you actually need a Keto-coach if you can learn & document yourself about this diet from reliable sources, that break down the basics of how to follow it. And also offer examples of meals, recipes, etc. Perhaps you can get a referral from your GP for a nutritionist that knows about medical keto & can guide you more exactly, esp in the beginning. I'm thinking that it might be covered by insurance, if u'r in the US and go through a referral. It may not be that expensive overall, if you're smart about it. 🤔
I completely agree that for some people, it is a very bad idea to have a practice of tracking their food. For others, it is essential to staying out of the hospital, even staying alive, and/or avoiding permanent damage to their body. For example, I have no sense of hunger due to a physical medical condition with no treatment and no cure. This caused me to accidentally undereat. I was then advised by one of my doctors to track how much I was eating. This was important to stabilize my weight (which was dropping to an unhealthy level), and more importantly, for me to get a better idea/sense of how much I need to eat. Because my body doesn't tell me, and as far as every doctor & specialist that has assessed me knows, it never will. I no longer have to track my food in that way, because I eventually developed a good enough sense of how much to eat, learned through tracking. However, I still have to be careful. In addition, I still have to track other aspects of my eating, due to multiple dangerous deficiencies in nutrients (discovered through blood work ordered by multiple doctors, to try to figure out why my body was slowly failing). I will probably have to do some tracking of my food for the rest of my life, just to stay out of the hospital and have an okay quality of life. It is not fun. There are many people with far worse conditions than me, that have to do far more extensive tracking, just to stay alive and prevent permanent damage to their body. It is not as simple as "food tracking isn't good". I hope I explained this well. Does that make sense?
@loricat5606 In your case, yes I agree it's essential for you. I just hate these slimming clubs etc which make you track your food, it brings on eating disorders. I hope you're OK, sounds like you have to be more aware of your diet.
you look less healthy to me, sweet girl...I grew up on strict dieting and it messed my brain, which is why I'm always scared of strict diets. Esp when we already struggle mentally.
Going on 4 years keto, now carnivore, I never did really track anything but just mentally ballparked it. Now being a senior I'm more concerned about getting enough protein each day (1g/pound) but I still ballpark that, erring to more protein needed than less in order to maintain lean muscle mass.
So-called carnivore leads to acidosis, unlike green to pink to white fruit and protein might actually be more harmful for tumours, let alone if carnism makes them carcinogenic and from processed sugars from the animal's waste system?

Let the poor girl blink! I think some people are only aware of her blinking habits because someone scrutinized her over it, and now she's self conscious about it and addresses it, too. I think she has gorgeous eyes, so I'm paying attention to her eyes, and I personally do not notice any abnormal blinking. There is dust in the air, and it's not all spread out equally. Eventually, eyes are going to blink more than normal, and this is normal, not unusual. Sorry, I'm very protective of people in the public eye when it comes to others pointing out their facial quirks because I have a twitch, and people point out mine, too, and then I become extra aware and now I just try to have wednesday adam's face, and so people berate me for that, too! I don't mean to go off on you, specifically because you obviously support her and are not saying it negatively, at all, and you're even being helpful. I just think sometimes facial quirks are what make people unique! Either way, God Bless, and again, I hope you don't think I'm attacking you, kind person on the internet who I've never spoken to.

I wonder how long this project is going to last
What do you mean?
@@dyawr you can’t be on Keto for the rest of your life, it can cause problems for liver and kidneys
@@lenajazuk4231 Really? It that a widely accepted opinion or a fringe one?
@@dyawr that’s what dietitians say and regular doctors not the ones who promote this diet and make money of doing so
That’s what I happened to know but who knows for sure? It’s pretty restrictive and stressful for your body so I don’t think it’s safe to experiment long term
@@lenajazuk4231 I don't know, it's an interesting opinion. I'm curious to read about that now, but I don't think Lauren & Rob would have started this if it posed health complications and could only be done for a limited time... It could also be this is just the normal amount of skepticism that comes with most new things. I mean, the medication she was on (and still is, on a lower dose) comes with a long list of very serious side-effects too... So, would this diet be worse than that if it can replace meducation? - is the question ppl doing this for medical reasons should ask, I think.
try vegan keto, and try drinking green tea
Used to be buff:(
if you continue like this, I'm gonna steal you from Rob
Think the main takeaway from this, is the more clean plant intake the better? The less acidosis, metals, minerals, synthetics, additives and preservatives the better and should be vegan for the animals and environment, as well as health and of others?
Rob doesn’t need to track his food because he doesn’t really need to be on medical keto
Even if he eats very low carb but gets out of ketosis it’s not critical for him to
How the heck do we afford to do all this if you are on disability payment from the government for schizophrenia. It's a poverty level payment
She isn't on disability, they earn too much from the channel & patreon.
If your symptoms doesn't improve any better you could try carnivore
Food tracking isnt good.
Also breatharianism, with veganism and fruit intake, as a safety net, with solarianism, and ballance is a thing?
@loricat5606 In your case, yes I agree it's essential for you. I just hate these slimming clubs etc which make you track your food, it brings on eating disorders. I hope you're OK, sounds like you have to be more aware of your diet.
Diabetics need to track their food & have a pretty strict diet.
@@dyawr Agreed.
Has medical keto reversed the cognitive deficits you experienced with your illenss?
you look less healthy to me, sweet girl...I grew up on strict dieting and it messed my brain, which is why I'm always scared of strict diets. Esp when we already struggle mentally.
I advise you guys to follow Dr. Zakir Naik ❤

not having music as background because of a desire to appear as normal as possible and avoid the stigma associated with schizophrenia.
Also careful to avoid AA(V)E, when not a black person too?
You should try carnivore after this and see how that goes.
Famous geniuses with Schizophrenia - Vincent van Gogh, Sid Barrett of Pink Floyd, John Nash Game theory, Beethoven (?), and everybody in the world has some form of Schizophrenia. Shamans say it's the healing spirit ( what the Schizophrenic can do for other people if they were not held back...)
Would be wonderful if you added background music on youtube video that prevented the outside world from being irritating
I think for me it feels more relaxing this way. Like ASMR 🤭
Seriously, who lives in a world without background noise? UA-cam videos should whisk us away from reality, not remind us of our noisy surroundings. Can we get a round of applause for background music? It's the unsung hero of sanity! Well, anyways she's got a fan base digging it, power to her! Different strokes for different folks, right? @dyawr

Also any animal product can make you sick?
Stop worrying about tracking your food, eat some lab created steak.
As a viewer for a while and having a family member with schizophrenia, this is remarkable to witness. You are pioneers. One day I hope this will help so many others.
I did notice some blinking. Not much but some. So proud of you both and how joyful this must feel. I wish much continued success.❤
Agree ❤ Thanks for sharing
Thanks for this! So nice to see you more at ease and enjoying your family…love the smiles!!
@@dhsarah570 No problem. One of the most important things you remembered was, I completely support her and her family. I might add, there ain’t nothing “poor girl” about Lauren. She is an absolute warrior!
I'm so so happy to see how well you seem to be doing! Everyone deserves this!
I haven't watched since you started the keto diet and the change in your cadence and the seriously sweet smiles in your face is absolutely amazing. I'm so glad this is working for you.
I saw the title and went "oh no, ohhh what if she gets hurt, aaaa" and then I watched and I was like "apparently she's fine, she's got it all under control -- look at that cute couple, (sigh of relief), happy for them ..."
I just knocked out of keto and boy has it been a big hit on me. Alot of unfelt negative emotions are arising. I hope I adapt alot faster back into ketosis this time.
You have baby now no way congrats…
Very happy for you..!!!!
