It's awesome that you're covering this gem of a game. It showed up as a recommend game in my list on Steam and I ended buying it during the Xmas Steam Sale. 96 hours later, I've unlocked a lot of ships and weapons yet, even in Early Release, there are still 2 star systems to unlock and explore. The devs did an amazing job with ship models, weapon types, sound design, and environments. Mission variety is also impressive. One highlight happens when, in order to steal a drone from pirates, you have to break into their computer network. Since the only unprotected port is in a mining facility inside an active volcano you have to remotely operate a shield drone to escort an infiltrate through the volcano's cauldron so it won't burst into flame, while your on-board AI is giving you grief. If you've yearning for a fun space game with a simplified, though still fully 3d, flight model; plenty of puzzles to solve; quirky companions that open up more perks and skills; or basically a game that harkens back to all the good aspects of Freelancer and Privateer, get this game. You only have so much time to get one and place it where it needs to go to open a treasure door.

I am also unable to harm NPCs. I feel bad when I am mean to them. I did not receive any religion indoctrination or sense of guild or anything from my parents. It's just how I am built, and I like it. I imagine then that you also do not enjoy fictional stories (books, movies) where the protagonist is not a good guy?
Little did you know that you must kill those NPCs since they are white nazi terrorists. How? I said so since they are colonizers and you're a nazi terrorist if you disagree. boom, I changed your morality in one swoop
You're not ''built'' as anything. A child does not have sense of morality. This grows over time due to your environment, whether it's religion or otherwise. It's baffeling to see you think that's only something religion, cults, guilds etc do. You still get taught about morality, what's right and wrong based on the environment you grow up in.
I was an hour late on kickstarter back then, so I was only backer number 100. Played it and had to stop because I wanted to get the full experience and binge it!
I maintain Everspace is one of the best game for feeling like you're flying an X-Wing ever made - almost as much as the old X-Wing games - and my pipe dream is to one day see Lucasfilm Games collab with Rockfish.
Game idea: Very similar to this game, but with a greater focus on the station which acts as the players base. You're a clone of a great pirate and wanted by the space popo. Every time you encounter the space cops, they start a scan on you to trace the wifi that connects you to the cloning pod (so it can backup your memories), once that scanning progress bar reaches 100% (assuming you couldn't escape them in time) they send a fleet to blow up your space station. A big part of the game would be keeping your base constantly on the move,, picking up allies and resources along to way to eventually grow your little station into a fortress capable of defending itself. Then you raid the civilized worlds and take over the galaxy, muahahaha. It'd be neat if you could walk around the station, talk to npcs who've joined you, chill out and shoot pool with them. Keep the hub feeling alive when you return from exploring, similar to how Hades kept the hub feeling alive in that game. Definitely have to have space blackjack and space hookers, it IS a pirate station after all. Maybe have your little station eventually grow into a small space tortuga, a space city FOR space pirates BY space pirates, owned by the immortal space pirate captain Jack Swallows!
Wow, I'm surprised to find another person, that didn't beat Skyrim. I played it for like hundreds of hours, but never finished the main quest, because of the other stuff.
Don't worry Splattercat, I am exactly the same as you when it comes to carrying over many of my morals and ethics into how I play games. I too never attack non-combatants and/or NPC's and I have yet to play the 'Evil' side in any game I have played. I also go out of my way to avoid killing wildlife in games unless they attack me first.
I am pretty excited by the direction they took this, filling the void that Rebel Galaxy Outlaw left... Shame about the loss of VR support, though. Elite Dangerous needs some competition in that regard.
I found the first one really great regarding flight model and the general moment-to-moment gameplay. What I didn't like though was the time constraint you had in each level. This seems to be more chill in that direction and that puts it right back on my list.
honestly everspace was the first and only roguelike that i've ever played and I FUCKING LOVED the story once you actually beat it and i mean truly beat it not just got to the end the first time and be done with it i mean go trough multiple clones to see it to the very end it was amazingly unique and refreshing
Had this in my library forever but been waiting for early access to end before jumping in. Just 2 more days. Also got Wartales coming out of early access right behind it. My month is booked as far as games are concerned.
I picked this game up a while ago because I thought it would be open world and sandboxy, but then I found out Everspace 1 was a roguelite and assumed this game would be the same, so I've ignored it. NOW you're telling me it's not, and it's open world sandbox with mining and salvaging?! Be still my beating heart.
I was just trying to remember the title of a game that you played a while back and I thought was really cool. It was this! Well, it was a bunch of games, but this was the one I was thinking of in particular.
Your comment about frigates reminded me of Freespace, which may actually be the first game to make you really feel that size difference. The general tone also reminds me of Rebel Galaxy, probably the second one more than the first. All good games.
oh shit, i had this in my library since it went into early access but wanted to wait for the full release since its a story driven game, and i didnt want to play it in pieces whenever theres an update. thanks for the reminder.
Hrmm, another game I'd have never known about if not for your channel. As an old hand at space 'sims' I might have to give this a try, been an age since 've played a good one.
I also try to be nice to NPC, it is just a thing that humans do. And I even found a relevant quote from some movie: "You know what makes people different from animals? We're the only species on Earth that observes Shark Week. Sharks don't even observe Shark Week; but we do. For the same reason, I can pick up this pencil, tell you its name is Steve, and then go like this; [snaps it in half; gasps of horror] and part of you dies, just a little bit on the inside. Because people can connect with anything. We can sympathise with a pencil, we can forgive a shark, and we can give Ben Affleck an Academy Award for screenwriting. People can find the good in just about anything except themselves." - Jeff Winger, Community
Addressing 12:00-13:00, there is an excellent video on Hogwarts legacy that talks about "the 15 second rule" which basically means there should be content every 15 seconds to keep the player engaged in the content. Some games take it to 20-25 seconds but you don't want content to spread out too far or the player might not want to engage with it or might finish main content too fast.
Same here I bought the game when it hit early access and have never installed it so I could enjoy it in it's full glory! Can't wait to jump in my first ship and start Daka,Daka,Daka...
Also Splat, I get you. I always have to play the good guy, and it’s silly, and you laugh it off, but it’s still part of you, redo a chapter, sell your soul to save states, accidentally find a way to start the game over so you can meta your decisions. Maybe I get what you’re talking about, or maybe I honestly don’t, but it sure sounds like you just described my play style in video games. You said religion made you have this mind set, and I get that entirely, but I was just a babysitter since I should have had one myself. Part of being super good with dogs, and kids is the ability to exist without conflict, sounds kind of like some upper level Zen stuff, but if you get what I wrote, you get it. Don’t hide that you’re angry, simply don’t BE angry. I can’t explain what that means, but you know it if you do. Here’s to being everybody’s good guy!

You just taught me that "plosive" is a real word! And a very appropriate one to describe the weapon sound design.
*tips fedora*
G'day outspoken atheist.
It's either inbuilt or you grew up in a society informed by a certain moral universe that's so ingrained it's no longer considered a religious value.
If you want that size differential between your ship and the Corvette's check out Freespace 2. You're constantly a small fighter against fleets.
"You're constantly a small fighter against fleets." - or check out Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw for the same reason ;-)
@@igorthelight yes and no. Outlaw doesn't really pit you against Corvette's like free space. But it's fun for dog fighting other small fighters.
Havent watched much gaming content on youtube for years now splat, but this video was a must watch for sure.
15:25 Splatter is so crazy he is throwing around "sockets".
I never finished Skyrim.
As a Gothic fan, I found Skyrim lacking ;-)
I've been playing the early access with dual sticks and it's been great. Much better experience than the first.
Today is the day I hit the like button for the game and not just for you.
Everspace and Everspace 2 are fantastic. Thank you for pointing out that they are going to official release on 2. I will be playing it soon too.
🙌🙌
How can you forget about Freespace/Freespace 2?! Those also had amazing scale differences between capitol ships
Nienix does a pretty good job of it as well. Especially when you jump into a frigate and all the enemy fighters are suddenly tiny little ants.
Everspace and Rebel Galaxy are the only space games where I lose all sense of time and end up playing for hours before realizing it.
Rebel Galaxy has that great "Cowboy in space" vibe! ;-)
awesome game
@@Clan_Mech Interesting game but rough ;-)
Wait for Final release or just 3-6 months.
This is on my list to pick up later this year, it looks great. Got some other games I’m playing right now, but I like the look of this a lot.
Fan of Descent!! Reason I crowd-funded the first one. Can't wait to check this one out. Thanks for the review.
Looks really good, I'm on a kick of space games atm so this definitely has to go on my list now.
What else have you played? I'm always looking for new space games. Check out Rebel Galaxy.
Nienix: Cosmic Warfare
check x4 foundations, insane sandbox
honestly everspace was the first and only roguelike that i've ever played and I FUCKING LOVED the story
once you actually beat it and i mean truly beat it not just got to the end the first time and be done with it i mean go trough multiple clones to see it to the very end it was amazingly unique and refreshing
Splat please, the old Star wars games, Freespace games... there were ships you needed minutes to flyby :D
Had this in my library forever but been waiting for early access to end before jumping in. Just 2 more days. Also got Wartales coming out of early access right behind it. My month is booked as far as games are concerned.
'I War' also had a good size differential between the sizes of the ship classes.
Great video, thanks for showing the gameplay. 👏Been waiting aswell and will use my easter holidays for a journey through space.
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
FreeSpace 2 did the size differences very good as well.
Your comment about frigates reminded me of Freespace, which may actually be the first game to make you really feel that size difference. The general tone also reminds me of Rebel Galaxy, probably the second one more than the first. All good games.
You had me at Freelancer
There he goes! Homeboy hugged a fanciful alien once!
Side Note: This is Free on PC GamePass for those XBox people out there.
1 word that rings eternal to all tried and true gamers out there... FREELANCER
oh shit, i had this in my library since it went into early access but wanted to wait for the full release since its a story driven game, and i didnt want to play it in pieces whenever theres an update. thanks for the reminder.
love the bomber and vindicator class ships
Finally. Everspace 2. Crank it through a headset and off we go!!! 😁😄😁
Hrmm, another game I'd have never known about if not for your channel. As an old hand at space 'sims' I might have to give this a try, been an age since 've played a good one.
I also try to be nice to NPC, it is just a thing that humans do. And I even found a relevant quote from some movie:
"You know what makes people different from animals? We're the only species on Earth that observes Shark Week. Sharks don't even observe Shark Week; but we do. For the same reason, I can pick up this pencil, tell you its name is Steve, and then go like this; [snaps it in half; gasps of horror] and part of you dies, just a little bit on the inside. Because people can connect with anything. We can sympathise with a pencil, we can forgive a shark, and we can give Ben Affleck an Academy Award for screenwriting. People can find the good in just about anything except themselves."

To the Everspace 2 team: Thankyou
The power of ice-cream compels you! Man I can't wait for a 50% off sale, but I will.
It's been out for like 2 years on pc. It just left early access the other day. Everspace 1 is my fav space roguelite.
Same here I bought the game when it hit early access and have never installed it so I could enjoy it in it's full glory! Can't wait to jump in my first ship and start Daka,Daka,Daka...
And push red button to go fasta? ;-)
@@igorthelight Exactly!
everspace 1 ruled, I'm waiting for ES2 to go live
Nice! :D I've been looking forward to this game for a long while now
Omfg it's gorgeous!
Alright, going to buy this rn. Was waiting on hearing about multiple ships, and buddy, they got me. Thanks, Splat!
Love this series. Can't wait to restart this now that it's out of alpha.
But i dont want to delete my old save :))
@@EnviROmaniac I would still recommend to do that tho ;-)
DEWIT!
