EVERSPACE 2 Review - The Final Verdict

  • Regardless of your taste in games, Everspace 2 will definitely have something to offer you, be it the loot-based progression of an action-RPG, a cool story to follow with interesting characters, fun plot twists, some great action that gives you a variety of different weapon types to play with, and even some peace and quiet as you live out your fantasies of being a space trucker ferrying goods between planets.
    Everspace 2 is packed with content, and even once you’re done with its core story, there are several other ways to progress as well, such as end-game “dungeons”, and even a faction system to mess around with.

      Probably a good choice since Jedi survivor is a very linear game with no replayability. So you will finish it fast and have nothing really to do after. One of the reasons why I didn't buy it. I prefer an open world game with allot of replayability.

  • @Corusame

    I don't think the score matches the gameplay that was shown in this vid. It looks very mundane in my opinion but I'm guessing there's a lot more to this game that wasn't shown here. Would appreciate it if someone who's thoroughly played this game could enlighten me. Haven't played a good space-based game in ages and hoping this will scratch that itch.

    • @MissEvieYT
      @MissEvieYT Рік тому +18

      I've played about 100 hours of early access ES2, including some of the endgame rifts, and I'm very positive on it. Most of the game is combat and buildcrafting; the exploration, puzzles and trading are all present and reasonably fleshed-out, but the combat is the focus, so I'm pleased to say it's really fun and fluid. The nine ship types, which you can swap between at will once you've bought them, are like classes that each facilitate a different playstyle. My favorite was the striker, which encourages diving into the center of large groups of enemies; meanwhile, the Vanguard allows you to reanimate dead enemies, the Scout asks you to keep your distance and snipe, etc. This wide variety of playstyles is supported by reasonably deep itemization and a control scheme that is just delightful, feeling natural while simultaneously allowing enormous freedom of movement. This keeps space battles from becoming too tedious; locking on is easy and time-to-kill is relatively low with a good build, so the difficulty comes from swarms of enemies of different types that different builds prioritize differently. This video review only shows footage from the first system, and the beauty of the environments -- and the complexity of combat -- definitely ramps up as you explore further out.
      My main criticism of the game is that this can all get a bit repetitive; if you're sticking with one build as you level up, then the varied locations and puzzles will stave off boredom for a while, but eventually you'll still get sick of the combat. But if you try out different ships and builds, you'll probably get a kick out of the game and enjoy it for most of the runtime. Additionally, I'd say the writing is just... Serviceable. It's fine, but nothing will surprise you here; it's pretty paint-by-numbers.
      That said I definitely recommend the game; I personally have had a ton of fun and I've played through much of the content multiple times and plan to do so again when 1.0 releases later this week

      The game is probably quite a bit shorter if you aren't doing the random events that show up every time you travel from one area to another. I'm like around 10-12 hours in on a post 1.0 playthrough and I'm still in the first world map area. I can easily see the game being 10 hours + per map area if you try and do everything. But I'd say cut the time in a third if you skip everything else except for the main story.

      Last time I saw this was in Forsaken. But that basically was a FPS with 3D movement and no special abilities and worked well.
      In ES1 when you want to strafe while shooting rockets, while moving, while activating the booster (so nothing special) you need at least 5 buttons at once! Some of them pushing, some holding (like the booster), some always holding!
      It's like playing piano and absolutely insane to me someone designed that scheme and thought it to be a good idea.
