The way that she crafts songs that are so specific to her feelings and experiences, yet broad enough that other can relate to amazes me. The imagery weaved by her words get me every time. Love your reactions! So happy that you came across my feed.
LOML is my favorite off this album, one of my favorites from all her music, and already my 3rd most listened to song of the year. It’s just all so beautiful, the music, her voice, the lyrics, and it hits you right in the feels.
I do not think her religious references are intended to be controversial or even religious. When she uses the term "Holy Ghost," that refers, I believe, to how Matty ghosted her within a few weeks after her break-up with Joe. It's just a new and interesting way to say someone ghosted her. Taylor has said in interviews she likes to use commonly used phrases or words in her songs but with a new twist. She has used this approach to songwriting for the past 20 years. Taylor's song, "Lover," is a good example of this surprise twist on words where she used words typically associated with weddings in a different way. In an interview, Aaron Dessner said Taylor is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I have copied and pasted part of the interview below: Asked to share a studio story illuminating Swift’s skills as a songwriter, Dessner said he remembered sending Taylor the music for the Evermore song “Willow,” only to have her write “the entire song from start to finish in less than 10 minutes… it was like an earthquake.”
Fun fact. She never actually says love of my life. Only love of your life. So the title is actually in reference to the final lyric, Loss of My Life. 😢
Often LOML is used with capitals and means the -love of my life- . She used it here with a lower case loml -loss of my life- which we speculated when the tracklist was leaked (sadly)
I love this because of her depth of feelings, and more so her lyrics, as heartbreaking as it is. I feel like she is definitely writing about Matty, but she may also be slipping back to her recent breakup with Joe, at times.
I have not heard a songwriter this different from mainstream since I first heard the Elton John/Taupin team....totally coming out of left field, completely a leap above the drech and famous forever.
This song is about Joe / William Bowery The repetitive piano background is somewhat identical to ‘evermore’ which was played by William Bowery (Joe). Many references were directed to her 6 year relationship with Joe: - Mr. Steal your girl (from Tom) - the British accent when she said ‘the love of your life’ - talking rings and talking cradles (Midnights and Lover album always pertain to this) - I can’t get out of bed cause something counterfeits dead (You’re losing me) This song reflects her pain and depression when they broke up.
@@yettykitty4893No. You are way off. Taylor called the muse a cinephile, which is a lover of film. Joe has said many times his love of film made him to want to be an actor. He also likes to take pics with black and white film. I think she is still rebounding with Travis. I don’t she will stay with him. She likes the smart, artistic guys.
@@stargazer3677 the song applies to both guys. Most of TTPD is about the experiences and emotions. She wasn't with Matty for only a fortnight. They had a thing back in 2014 and remained in touch. There was even an emotional affair towards the end of the relationship with Joe. Once Taylor was free and their connection wasn't "forbidden" Matty ghosted her. She eludes to the situation throughout TTPD.
I don't see any hints that this would be about MH. She talks about a relationship that lasted a long time and felt safe rather than starry eyed. She references he's a stand up guy, references him liking old movies (she's mentioned before her and Joe liked to watch old films). Detangling 6-7 years of your life with someone else, losing your home, the city and country you made home, dividing stuff up, losing all the plans and dreams you had - that's a huge loss. Also, calling MH Mr. Steal your girl seems very unlikely and doesn't fit at all with all we know about how she's several times referred to Joe as if he stole her away (like getaway car etc)
this is not about matty... it's about joe alwyn and how the two of them were extremely close to spending the rest of their lives together until things went south in their relationship. she's made several allusions to marriage and having children with joe in this song and in previous ones, so there is no way this would remotely be about matty. he was merely her rebound after their breakup - which resulted in another heartbreak for her as she discovered he wasn't the person she thought he was after knowing each other for so long. the 'rekindled flames' she sings about refers to the breaks she and joe took, which she also references in the 'the great war'. in this song she makes SEVERAL allusions and callbacks to previous lyrics she wrote about joe in previous albums (folkmore, midnights, lover) - even ones in reputation ('call it what you want, ready for it..?' etc). with "what we thought for all time was momentary," she's referring to the long-lasting relationship she and joe had - they pondered multiple times about settling down together. this is referenced in many of her songs about her relationship with joe. a serious relationship that took place for 6-7 years of her life is the only thing that could've produced a song such as 'loml', and it's concerning you're trying to insert her fling with matty into this song when it so obviously about her heartbreak from losing joe who she thought she was going to be with forever.
@karol-ys5ow completely agree and also agree it's concerning how people try to insert a fling into this. She's said herself that he was just a manic phase, not love, while she was broken hearted and people are still so drama hungry that they add matty into everything. A year ago they were all hating on him...
I listened to a fair bit of this album. Boring as f**k. Was it the worst thing I've ever heard? No. But seriously, given the amount of attention this is getting, it's really nothing special.
This is her saddest song yet. You can hear the heartbreak.
atw, yrlm are also so sad. So long, london as well.
This one destroys me. Every. Single. Time.
The piano background is just beautiful. Some people might find this boring, repetitive. This style suits her vocal very much though in my opinion.
she had me in a chokehold at “in your suit and tie” 😢 such beautiful delivery

This is my favorite singing voice of hers. So beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful

Brilliant song. She puts so much feeling into her singing. You can feel her hurt 😰💐
Honestly I don't know how anyone can listen to this song without tears..heartbreaking
This album is so good each time I hear it, tbh. It's just not easily digestible pop music. A lot more abstract
The music carries the emotions of this song. You actually can hear, see and feel every word.
We all went through her relationship and career journey. She’s growing up and healing at the same time.
