I love that she uses the Peter Pan reference again! Peter never grows up in Nerverland and maybe that’s why things are easier for him than her…she has to grow up and he doesn’t. She waits for him, but then she grows up and realizes she can’t anymore.
This is a perfect summary for Taylor and Matty. They met per introduction by Jack Antanoff in 2014. I think it was the "RED" burning hot few months. Halsey dated him in 2015 and describes him as "BLUE" in her MV for Colors. I think they tried to make it a few times but Matty wasn't ready and continued to struggle with drugs/alcohol. Male vocals couldn’t work in the concept of the song: this is Wendy talking to Peter Pan in her head. It’s her flow of thoughts. I not only about doing the obvious things
I think she doesn’t push the voice or lyric beyond what it is because she was consistent. She was ready for a relationship at 25 and 35. She was always there and consistent. She just got told the same thing over and over. He wasn’t ready and he’d come back so she says it over and over because that’s what she was told.
Peter is so underrated and probably one of my favourite tracks on the album 😊 that sound you were talking about reminds me a lot of how voices sound on an empty-ish theatre stage. Not sure if that makes sense, but that's the sound I associate it with. The song is supposed to be "about" Matty Healy because he always refers/red to himself as having Peter Pan syndrome. And in Cardigan, the lyric "Peter losing Wendy" is about Healy too for very convoluted reasons involving mouthing words on stage... It's not interesting, but it does confirm Cardigan was at least a partial reference to Healy. I don't think it's particularly important who this song is about. The metaphor would be just as sad for any youthful love that just never panned out. And I think this song is far too lovely and gentle and delicate for Healy anyway 😬
A lot of people are saying that this is a part 2 of “I Look Through People’s Windows”. Peter was constantly looking for Wendy, but couldn’t find her. 💔🤔
Def hear the distortion, I think it’s intentional, just that great point at the bridge where the realization hits, and then a sort of resignation at the end. Peter is thought to be MH. They ended things bc he wasn’t ready to grow up and she always burned the lantern for him, thinking they’d grow apart and then come back together, but he never did grow up 😢
Listen to this next to Betty from Folklore (and maybe that's why you said Bon Iver) - there are ties to a lot of her songs/albums in this album I think that's why some of it was "intentional" - as if she is wrapping it all up in a neat little bow
