I was the VFX artist on the two shots in which we see the A-10. They are fully synthetic (i.e. CG), but using real A-10 footage as reference. I must say I was a little concerned when I saw this pop up in my feed (with a shot of mine in the thumbnail no less). Pleasantly surprised that you not only didn’t have critiques of my work, but that the show overall seems to have done a pretty good job at getting the details right.
We just want them to get the A-10 sound right. Very very few movies or shows do. Saw the A-10 in 1984 at an air show. I was 14 and been in love ever since. Great work.
@@Evl_1the sound does need work. On 9/11 the local air guard was looking for a rogue planet that evening. My guess is that some AH executive passed the sound people a note saying "that BRRRRRRRT doesn't sound real, I don't care if it's accurate, make it sound more like what an average viewer expects a gun to sound like"
Having been an advisor to a bunch of Hollywood guys that were doing a recruiting commercial for the Guard a few years back, I can say this 100%. We'd tell them "Yeah that's not really how you'd do it/how it would look" and they'd just respond with "Yeah but it looks cool on camera" or something like that and just do what they wanted.
Once got to "see" a QRF in Afghanistan where they diverted a B2 for CAS. Our supporting Pred was pushed out of the airspace due to the amount of resources called in. It was the only time I ever saw dirt/debris raining down from above the Pred..... which again... was out of the area. Not sure what the B2 was carrying.... but it wrecked someone's day.

@CWLemoine have you reacted to the Broken Arrow scene in We Were Soldiers? I don't remember what they used, but I think they used meters there. Also, love your content! Hope to learn more from you!
Usually you would give a run in heading to the aircraft as well. Also "at My command" is used for artillery, Army Helicopters and sometimes an AC-130, but not for CAS. In a CAS mission "at my command" is implied, where as in the other examples they will fire as soon as you are done with the 5-line if it is not said.
Taylor Sheridan is coming in hot with these non yellowstone shows, lioness and landman are turning out to be enjoying to watch. Her hubby is jealous cause shes a bigger bad ass than he is lol
I was an ALO back before Desert Storm. I always hated trying to control F-16s. Because they are tiny and are always trying to fly up their own ass. You never know where they are going to point their nose. Hogs are much slower and much more predictable. There is no question that JTACs are the best controllers. A lot of special forces and Army artillery observers have some training in CAS.
5:30 Its not just they had decent technical advisors, they have to make a point to not ignore them. There's usually a director or creative team that gets awesome people, but they "go in another direction" for creative rasons.
Please could you give your analysis of the footage from the Kazakhstan crash? The plane was or wasn't shot down? Are you able to give look as fighter pilot?? Thank you!! Big shout out from Brazil! Love your Top Gun videos!
Always wondered if you were a part of writing this show. Between the A-10 as well as the helicopters and F22 in season two, the hostage scenes had a lot of similarities to Kruger and Spectre. And the whole special task force thing
Agreed Lioness is not bad, I I liked the first short season a lot. Taylor Sheridan does some good writing (did he refer you) & I like when he inserts himself into the cast in some of his series like this one cause he looks like a legit operator.
That document laying out the lines does say that distances should be given to rotary-wing aircraft in metres. Not sure if "maintain altitude *at* 500 metres" would be a more sensible call, but in any case there could be some "helicopters = metres" thinking going on, there.
Picked up Absolute Vengeance yesterday. Just finished Spectre 6 Stand Against Evil so I'm guessing for clarity I read AV before going to Helios Conspiracy, correct? BTW: the Spectre Series has been great!!!!
Very cool! I hear you about the altitude in meters. I heard her say 100 meters out does that mean you guys use the metric system for distance. Back during the transition we used to use feet for altitude but metric for distance. Thought it was only us Canadians who did that.
I was US Army and yeah you use Metric for distance. Maps are 1Km squares. Rifle ranges are all metric. 25 meter zero for M4/M16. Easier to do the math.
That suuuuucked. Why keep calling her an Apache pilot when it was always a Blackhawk? Also endless rockets, etc., was way too lame Hollywood over the top.

Thanks for your assessment. The technical aspects are interesting. It’s another Taylor Sheridan work. Very detailed and as accurate as possible, I’d say. There’s the Hollywood “ good guy gets wounded but it has little negative impact” crap, but I’ve seen WAY worse.

Liked the 2 seasons a lot. Had that "The Unit" feel to it, including Max (man did he get old). I thought the aviation scenes were better than most other shows. The Apache pilot from season 2 flying a Blackhawk gunship gave me some pause. They never adressed it so I guess she could also be Blackhawk rated. Seems unlikely but thats how I'm justifing it.
Also, they still made the round impacts from the strafe look typical to some Japanese Zero with 7.7mm guns, or .50 cal at best. Too tightly spaced and the sound of the impacts isn't close either. That's not what 30 mike mike rounds look or sound like impacting. Yeah, yeah, you can't get it perfect, but it could easily have been a tad more accurate. Also, have rounds impacting BEFORE you hear the BRRRT is an important often overlooked small detail that matters.
Love the breakdown, perfect amount of detail and how things are sequenced. Just need to kick the sound department in the ass and do a go fund me for a proper sound library .....
My picky is the Hollywood strafe effect. The cannon impacts should be about twice as fast across the target area, and the dust/smoke plumes should be at an angle away from the aircraft (but for safety near the stuntmen, a vertical is the norm in movies). The A-10 is doing what, 200 knots, so the shell impacts should also.
There is a Harris radio seen but its not current state of the art type one but those impossible to get as movie props. Its an international version and not a sensitive item but would totally work for the scene.
for a pointy nose guy, not a bad CAS discussion, Mover. ;) If the Hawgs are in the wheel... in the mid teens/up, you're not going to see 'em ... and you're not going to hear 'em until AFTER they employ. Hear the gun first. Good comment on the gun sound. Not awful, but NOT the Hawg's Avenger, either. Good comment on the tech of the commo. Sat phone radio is way after my time. I thought maybe they were using cell phones. LOL Friendlies' location seems well established. Even had infrastructure. So they weren't out "in the bush." The altitude of the Hawg indicates, as you said, a Low Angle Strafe .... Pop. He's not "in the wheel." He's flown-in at 300-500'agl and had a 30-60 degree climbing turn to catch an attack heading at a (10) degree dive angle employing only a couple of seconds .... back to the "safe escape" maneuver to change the aircraft's vector ... to be unpredictable ... harder to hit with small arms fire. This makes reattacks a necessity. Especially with the targets so scattered like "troops in the open." So the first 3 will always be relevant if we're popping to something ... high drag bomb (prob not gonna drop slicks at low altitude dive bomb (frag yerself ... maybe a level delivery that is released at about 1000' agl, but then lose cover of the ground)), cluster, maverick, or 30mm .... and that pop will be to a low angle delivery. if for some reason you need more than 15 deg .... you're needing to pop too much. when the Hawg's nose goes up, airspeed goes down. Even in full grunt. I can't recall the apex altitude in a pop but seems like it wasn't more than 2000' agl... and that was to keep airspeed up, cause it's dropping. This is a brief clip of a full episode, but the composition of the fighting force dances to the beat of DEI. Resistance training was clearly different in my time from yours. Hopefully we'll never see it ... but it was enough for me. Pass on no restrictions to fighting forces if we don't NEED 'em. I'll prob pass on the series. Not suggesting a course of action for anyone else, but that was enough to have me watching something else. (admin note; I'm not responding to the DEI comment ... so green 'em up and lay it on me ... be sure to include your experience in how Resistance Training taught you how we are all the same and you won't be compromised by the exploitation of your comrade with particular techniques)
Hello Mover, I know this might not your forte but I think you need to watch some clips from Karmakut Arma 3 gameplay, whenever they have an "ops" they always has a guy called Fu as their JTAC, I don't really know if that guy has a UA-cam channel or not but from a few videos from Karmakut, he's a pretty decent JTAC guy in the game. (also I hear that karmakut and he's team also learned all the stuffs from vets & active personnel to have a real & true experience in the game) It will be nice if you sometimes can do a review about it
That didn't sound like a A-10, and the gun sound was close but over I agree with overall assessment. I was in CAP for years and got to see firsthand A-10 and A-7 at the range. My brother was 9 years in Army and did 2 turns in the middle east with UN and got support from both A-10 and AH (he didn't know which one one) and was very apricate on the work they do!
They did pretty well on season 1, but unfortunately they called a Blackhawk with hydra pods (pretty sure it was an MH-60L DAP) an Apache. It wasn’t even a minor piece either. The whole premise was the new lioness is an Apache pilot and there was not a single Apache in the entire season. As far as entertainment goes though, great show.
The other thing that stood out as inaccurate was the speed at which the rounds from the hog hit the ground was nowhere near the speed that an A-10 would be travelling . I'd guess that it's nearly impossible to get squibs in the ground to fire off at that rate. Either that, or some producer wanted the shots to be easier to track. In any case, well done by entire cast, crew and director. Hollywood rarely treats aviation with much respect. I have yet to see an aircraft mechanic accurately portrayed. I'm looking at you, Lowell from 'Wings'! Maybe Tom Selleck from 'An Innocent Man', and even that scene was a little hokey.
The did all that research to get the nine line 1/2 right. But they still can take 30 seconds to watch one of the millions hawg reels out there to the the gau sound right

Well, there's always 'Airwolf'.
Getting the iconic A-10 gun sound wrong in post 2016 is inexcusable. The BRRRT has been a meme for nearly a decade now.
Mover's impersonation of the GAU was way more accurate.

The altitude of the Hawg indicates, as you said, a Low Angle Strafe .... Especially with the targets so scattered like "troops in the open."
So the first 3 will always be relevant if we're popping to something ... high drag bomb (prob not gonna drop slicks at low altitude dive bomb (frag yerself ... maybe a level delivery that is released at about 1000' agl, but then lose cover of the ground)), cluster, maverick, or 30mm .... and that pop will be to a low angle delivery. if for some reason you need more than 15 deg .... you're needing to pop too much. when the Hawg's nose goes up, airspeed goes down.
(also I hear that karmakut and he's team also learned all the stuffs from vets & active personnel to have a real & true experience in the game)
It will be nice if you sometimes can do a review about it
If the biggest criticism is that they used metric instead of imperial measurements, they did pretty good.
Metric would be used for distances, feet for altitude.
I love hearing the operational detail to bad the didn't use the brrrt sound show a few guys on the ground cheering
Merry Christmas Mover @CWLemoine
Can we possibly get you and gonky to do some CAS in dcs? Maybe best if the dumb bombs closest gun run ect
Not gonna lie Mover, you're makin me want to get back into Arma 3 and do JTAC
Love the show.. Though Season 2 completely blows Season 1 away. I even suggest, watch Season 1, Ep 1, then Ep 8 Finale.. and straight to Season 2 👌
Is it normal for an a10 to show up within 10 seconds of a CAS call near a remote socom outpost?
Are we ignoring the Bell Jetranger sounds being emitted from that Little Bird? 😮💨
"they have the same engine they must make the same sound" -some director
@@zq3yp More like "here's the generic sound library the studio pays out every year for, no cash for a sound company to go sampling our helo"
A10 being discontinued? Why Mover??
Fine for counterinsurgency against targets with no air support or SAMs. A lot harder against targets that have both.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year Mover =)
That wasn't much of a "Mover Ruins" episode. More like a "Holy cow, they came damn close!" episode! 😂
one nit pick, not a 160th little bird. wrong skids, but a good approximation
Awesome they got the call right. I don't know why you put an A10 in the scene without proper BRRT though. That's the whole point...
Wrong sound for those 500s;-)
Waiting to see Mover ruin "Land of Bad".
not what I have expected, the movie has not been ruined 😅
The did all that research to get the nine line 1/2 right. But they still can take 30 seconds to watch one of the millions hawg reels out there to the the gau sound right
There’s so much open content with the right sounds why can’t they get it right?
