That moment when your thoughtseize sees 2x Sphinx's Revelation 1x Elspeth, Sun's Champion 1x Planar Cleansing 1x Supreme Verdict 1x Jace, Architect of Thought 1x Divination That's gotta suck
That being said U/W control is an awesome design overall to go with the theme of the Azorius guild in Ravnica/Return to Ravnica. The Azorius are a powerful government organization that "controls" its citizens and enemies through subtle and distinct ways. Red creatures are in your face and you can see how you are dying on the battlefield each turn until you die. But with Azorius, they kill you, and you can't really see why or how (until you play against it multiple times). I believe Azorius control takes a skilled player to play efficiently and requires skill and even arguably luck to play against. It is strong if played precisely and that is why a lot of people lose to it and do not like it. Wizards cannot listen to complainers because it was one of the most awesome design elements from the set to go with the theme of the guilds. Absolutely brilliant in my opinion.
Very interesting deck by conley Ive wanted to see tymaret in a standard. Thank you for making an interesting experimental deck that's worth watching play out
Why is there so much hate for U/W? Control has been a strategy in MTG for as long as the game has been around. You may find it boring to watch but it certainly isn't an easy deck to play, especially after 9 rounds or whatever. It is very decision heavy and one wrong move can cost you the game. It isn't even the most oppressive deck in standard at the moment, (think about the affect Affinity, Faeries, and Caw-Blade had on standard during their time), so why bitch about it? Yea Rev and Verdict are dick cards but so is Thoughtseize and Pack Rat, so is having a million burn spells slung at your face. Plus, they rotate out in just over a month so quit whining.
@@ogtfromthefirstep1459 exactly my fav has always been Esper. Even if the sets don’t really favor those colors for example I still find a way to home brew the deck and have awesome matches with it
I absolutely HATE playing against blue. But tons of respect to Floch for how he plays it and how well he does with it. He has a perfect set up, and he wins with little to no help from creatures.
thats why i used this shell in a mill deck games go by much faster, huge life gains or i loose cause i didnt stablize, its boring but its ment to be that way
33:45 Randy talks about how he can kill the Nyx-Fleece Ram if he discards both creatures... I really don't get how Randy is always so clueless. He +1'd Jace...
Dont understand how people can cry SOOOOO much about control like it just beats everything... look at any top 8 list this year... half of it is black or blue devotion.
Like as daunting it is to watch the u/w control deck, I respect the people who have the mindset to play the deck. It requires tons of patience to play and a strong mental capacity to play it. I've tried my hand at control and I admit, I'm not the best with it so kudo's to Floch. Also, Coneley's deck = sweet.
John Smith Counter-spells aren't affected by shroud, since the spell isn't in play yet. Wrath effects like Supreme Verdict and Planar Cleansing aren't countered by shroud since they do not 'target' any specific creature, they just state that the creatures die. :o
Cant wait for blue/white control to leave after rotation. Its the most boring deck to watch and play against and idk what wotc was thinking making rev. Its such a broken card.
It's not broken. But it is basically the best spell you can cast late game right now. I also don't understand why Wizards would keep the same control shell around for 2 years now. We've seen Esper control for so long just because the RtR Uw Cards were so strong. They didn't do anything against control...
Control was always a contender for the last 2 years. It's not an oppressive deck or destroying standard or shit like that. It's just been the same for the last 2 years
A broken card is a card that defines a format and needs to be banned! If you don't like to play with and against control decks, that's your opinion, but nothing more than that... You can see a lot more MonoBlack Devotion decks (and with better results than Revelation decks), MonoBlue, B/W Midrange, Jund Monsters, than Control decks on Standard... And usually there isn't a Revelation deck on the first place at SCGs Opens and GPs... It's MonoB and MonoU the majority of times! So, where's that broken card, defining the actual Standard format, where everyone needs to play it if they want a chance to win?!?... No one have to be a fan of Control/UW/Revelation decks... For those who doesn't enjoy it, it's boring, I agree!... But that's Magic! Deck types for every player to be able to enjoy the game! If someone are wasting his time hating and raging about a card or a deck-type that he doesn't like... It's his own problem!
Y r people crying about U/W control? Lol everyone has there own way of playing id much rather watch or play control then watch a bunch of creatures hit the field and swing people say blue white control is boring well so is aggro they play the same creatures over and over nobody is innovative or creating good decks anymore in my opinion its all boring we need new stuff and also blue white control is powerful and wins and last time i checked this is pro tour not kitchen table magic so u wanna play wats going to win right? Just saying
Because aggro matches are over at turn 5. So the people who find them boring aren't bored for long. Whereas, UW control matches just go on and on and thus the people who find them boring have more time to complain...
That stockpile deck looks like a blast to play. Interesting decisions, creature based combat, graveyard synergy. Then there is U/W Control, playing the most boring strategy to watch: wrath, wrath, rev, Jace. Cannot wait until rotation. Non-interactive magic is not fun to watch or fun to play against.
Callum Flude I can understand where youre coming from, but when youre in a competitve format, there comes a time for brews and a time to listen to teammates and pick better options
+Jin Zhao Yeah im sure he did lol, but watching the same decks over and over and over and over again gets dull, and it makes everyone at FNM play the exact same deck almost.
I'm so tired of Sphinxs Revelation and Supreme Verdict...Wizards please please please never screw up like this again while designing cards. Part of the reason I quit standard.
It's not different strokes. It's just u/w got three really good game changing cards that shut down most decks. I quit standard because the only three decks getting play were mono black, U/W control, and burn. I shit you not anytime I went to my fnm I played each of those decks everytime in about that order. I'm not sure what their R&D were thinking when designing rtr and theros.
dat stockpile.
TheMagicManSam woah my favourite UA-camr! Hi
I know Ivan Flochs deck gets a lot of hate, but i love watching it played. I've never been very good running control and he is very good at it.
It's all I run
Why is he getting hate?
@@lucasthybeck-soderberg3056 Because people hating on control are vocal on social media, especially creatureless control

unless it's turn one and you're on the play
As a strict control player I miss when control was this good. I really hope Dominaria will do something to fix the archetypes fate.

Control: The only match up where you scoop when the score is 18-17 in your favor.

People are just bad at the game. People who shit on control are just brain dead players who dont have the brain capacity to pilot superior decks

I love Ivan Floch's deck... because I play a very similar one!
Seeing Floch's deck helped me build my blue black control deck for modern. Quicken/Languish works pretty well.
I'm curious how this has aged 🤣
The silence at 31:50 was not the "how do I stay alive" thinking, it was the "how do I fit half my hand into this turn" thinking. lolz
I absolutely agree cause I think that a lot
At 45:00, Conley probably needs a good top deck.
Is the only way UW control wins by resolving an Elspeth and/or decking your opponent?

The UW control feels a lot like a great deck to play with in FNM if I want to get lesser friends. :D
hell yeah, love conley
Floch used Elixer of Immortality in 2nd game and goes from 7 > 9. Shouldnt it have been 12?
Floch activated it in response to taking damage so he gained 5 then lost 3

This deck was insane!
22:34 I thought that guy in the back was chugging a 40 oz, made me double check real fast
Woods' deck seems like it would benefit from red, so he could use Mizzium Mortars against Blood Baron.
Wouldn't shroud reck his deck or hexproof
John Smith not when you play 8 wrath effects
John Smith Counter-spells aren't affected by shroud, since the spell isn't in play yet. Wrath effects like Supreme Verdict and Planar Cleansing aren't countered by shroud since they do not 'target' any specific creature, they just state that the creatures die. :o
good God I had forgotten how disgusting control was durring this standard
Who the hell thinks red decks are exciting.
I can, from my over 10 years of experience, sum up 99% of all red decks:
Weenies + burn spells,
Conley has a cool deck!
Anyone else surprised this video is still up given woods’ recent charges.
i prefere a deck with dark/white, i have one and is good
Seeing Floch willingly take damage with a deck that is essentially made to board wipe every other turn hurts my soul.
whos here in 2023?!
Conley Wooooods
Someone explain how Ivan floch wins lol
He doesn't, his opponent concedes out of boredom.
No really though, his opponent is denied all of his win conditions and he can no longer win the game
Estark k thanks.
Badaxian ivan also runs mutavaults so would have had him either way. Elixir of immortality late game pretty much guarantees the win
Matt Robinson Thanks, that cleared it up

In my opinion Floch is the best player
The constant hand shuffling is reeaaaaaally annoying.
they should take this vid down. conley turned out to be a weirdo
maybe if Conley woods stop brewing decks and build real decks, he has the skills but his decks are just not up too par
