Came down to comments to say the same thing, probably the difference between a loss and a win. He had a 2 turn clock, opponent would've been forced to chump.
i read this before i got to that part. the fact that Seth says over and over and over again there's no way around it, even though he always had the mana and the upper hand, was just awesome! had i not read this before watching, i never would have noticed or thought of that, and i would have been playing exactly like him, only i'd be much saltier about the stormbreath
it's a bit deceptive since the top part of the card is white, so not surprised Seth missed that it is colorless. Then again "Reading your cards explains your card" all and that.
Sean McMillan most Ponza lists have only one basic Mountain in the deck. Even if the opp could pay for the Arbiter tax, he most likely wont have the second red mana source for e Titan.
For anyone who read my last post and would like the decklist for my Venser exile deck here's the link (as well as you can see any other lists). Please let me know how you did if you play any of them. tappedout.net/mtg-decks/vensers-exile-entrapment/
You would really like my Venser bounce deck. It's U/W/Splash G. Mangara is in the main, and with displacer, training grounds, Venser (shaper and sojourner), wall of omens, Auriok champion, knight of autumn, Snapcaster, and a bunch of counter spells.
I like Flickerwisp in place of Mangara and Blade Splicer in place of Vryn Wingmare and Milita Bugler. Resto in place of Venerated Loxodon. Shefet Dunes and Windbrisk heights are cheap lands that can provide late game value.
fun note - you can flicker Stormbreath Dragon with Eldrazi Displacer. Thanks to the magic of the Devoid keyword, Displacer is not a white creature and therefore can target creatures with Protection from White.
Donovan Simmons Not only that, he probably would have prevented the opp from casting the Titan since Ponza lists rarely have more than one basic mountain in the main, and the Elves can only untap Forests.
Yeah, I guess we should have just went for it anyway. They could have paid, but maybe we would have cut them off of red mana (although going down lands for the off-chance we can color-screw them is a bit risky).
Oh my god seth, i had to pause the video for a minute when you played that useless mangara instead of blinking stormbreath...that game was very winnable
I might be wrong here...but because of Devoid, Displacer is Colorless, right? Couldn't you have just used its Flicker effect against Stormbreath to allow you to swing/keep it locked down?
Mangara would also work with resto angel or flickerwisp + aether vial. Might be good in a flicker deck though the 3 slot becomes full if you're also running spell queller or reflector mage.
15:00 I've never understood why people NEVER play their lands first against blue decks.. It might not have mattered, but what are they afraid off in these cases?
I don't think it changes much in that situation. They can Logic Knot or Mana Leak even if we play a land and there isn't really any other played counterspell. I think you are right though in that you should play the land first to play around certain possible counters.
Seth I think something is going wrong with your green screen, if you watch while you’re going through the deck tech there’s some sort of blue triangle above your head, just wanted to make sure you knew
"Maybe we just shouldn't keep one-landers." - Seth, probably better known as SaffronOlive, professional Magic: The Gathering Player, in the Year of Our Lord 2019
Game 2 of match 1 I think I would have kept the hand as well. Thalia seemed so important to the match up. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was a good keep
did seth forget devoid on eldrazi displacer makes pro. white not work at 32:40 ? and then forgets to ghost quarter the red sources....... for shame Seth
Adam Lane While the body provided with Cleric is nice (especially due to the benefit from Loxodon), Rest In Peace performs much better. One shot hate is never as good as R.I.P. effects, and the meta percentage of graveyard decks means the better effect on R.I.P. out weighs the body on Cleric.
I actually like sports quite a bit, I just don't talk about it all that much since it seems like most other Magic players don't. Also, the flag thing was a gift from a fan, which is pretty sweet!
I think Tithe Taker is better as a creature thanks to afterlife, but Grand Arbiter has a harder taxing effect on counterspells. Not sure how it evens out in the end, it's probably pretty close.
@@MTGGoldfish What do you think you're going to build over time with war of the spark? Here's my idea of a flickerfriends list please tell me what you think if you have time.www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1772903#paper
Why not play your lands first in match 1 game 2. You got punished by getting logic knot X=1 while having a land in your hand. I notice you do this a lot, not playing lands first. Why is that?
Sometimes it bates the opponent into thinking you are stuck on mana. Need pause and read the situation though (something Seth does not always do). Reid Duke is a great player who does pause before going in with his play.
Match 1 game 3 when you drew that Mangara turn 3 after keeping a one land hand... I live for this. If only there was a way to punish you further, like this video should be demonetized, that would be perfect.
That second "big mana" deck *wasn't* a Green Devotion deck, it was just a "big mana" deck. Green Devotion plays stuff like Burning-Tree Emissary to amp up the mana symbols and cash in big on Nykthos.
I mean, if you've got Nykthos and a bunch of green creatures I think you all under the green devotion heading, even if you aren't the traditional build.
@@MTGGoldfish Fair enough, although I didn't see a Nykthos nor any green mana symbol-heavy permanents at all in that second match, just land enchantments to get more mana out of each land tapped and ways to untap lands.
For what its worth, eldrazi displacer has Devoid which means it's not white, so you could target stormbreath dragon to tap it in game three @32:40
Came down to comments to say the same thing, probably the difference between a loss and a win. He had a 2 turn clock, opponent would've been forced to chump.
exactly what i was thinking

Seth and keeping one landers, name a more iconic duo.

Swans and Seismic Assault :)
Seth probably better known as Saffron Olive and mispronouncing card names.
I must say, Seth showed surprising restraint by not adding Mana Tithe to this deck 😁
When you introduce yourself to new people, do you sometimes accidentally say "Better know as SaffronOlive"?
You do know that eldrazi displacer can tap down stormbreath right?
I came looking for this. I felt bad for Seth, probably would have won that game XD
At 32:45 I was yelling it at my monitor lol
Also he played leo arbiter with 2 quarters, op almost tapped out, didnt cracked them...op procedes to play inferno titan...lol

as has been stated before, Displacer is colorless, so it could have just been blink/tapping stormbreath as you got the beats in.

I’m a DnT player, and it warms my heart that you’re showing love to my favorite deck
Me too. I love strip mine t2
I'd love to see a Devastating Summons/8-Whack hybrid that has a playset of Titan Pacts.
Its been done. Not very resilient nor consistent.
Good for memes.
"we got a pretty fast clock" - Saffron olive, who has lethal on the board.
I mean, that's as fast as it can be
24:44 I like Kor Skyfisher, picking up Loxodon, recast Loxodon here.
Walloficecream I was hoping for the same line of play

When War of the Spark releases, could you put Karn, the Great Creator + Liquimetal Coating Land Destruction on the poll?
Seems possible! I can't wait for the rest of the planeswalkers to be officially previewed so we can talk about them!
You need to condition yourself to mull bad hands that can be great and keep good hands that aren't great.
I like Flickerwisp in place of Mangara and Blade Splicer in place of Vryn Wingmare and Milita Bugler. Resto in place of Venerated Loxodon. Shefet Dunes and Windbrisk heights are cheap lands that can provide late game value.
Flickerwisp is a good option, although I'm not exactly sure what to cut for it.
Wisp should probably be in vial decks. If it's slow anyways, Mangara + Displacer is the stronger interaction.
Great video, I enjoyed all of it!
Lmao came out 5 minutes ago
fun note - you can flicker Stormbreath Dragon with Eldrazi Displacer. Thanks to the magic of the Devoid keyword, Displacer is not a white creature and therefore can target creatures with Protection from White.
What's the reason for why so many players cast their spells and then play their lands after, allowing them to get logic knot X 1'd?
On that last Ponza game could you have not GQ'd his two red lands with Arbiter in play? They usually only have one basic mountain
Why is the goblin token deck playing anger of the gods in the main? Or anywhere in the 75 for that matter
I have literally no idea. Seems like an odd deckbuilding choice.
In addition tot bouncing stormbreath, you could have also used displacer to bounce thought-knot on an empty hand and be up a card...
Seth in this dark crule world, you bring light, and I thank you for that.
:)
"Maybe we should not keep one landers"
you keep them SO often and lose with them SO often
why didnt you tap stormbreath with Eldrazi Displacer? it has devoid so it's technically colorless
Not technically, it IS colorless.
Total whiff.
I really love Mangara, I had it as my commander once, responding to the ability with all sorts of blinks, untaps and bounces
34:46 Seth! You should have ghost quartered both red mana lands! It could have mattered because of arbiter on the board.
Donovan Simmons Not only that, he probably would have prevented the opp from casting the Titan since Ponza lists rarely have more than one basic mountain in the main, and the Elves can only untap Forests.

Seems to be a sweet deck in paper, my kind of modern entry-deck. Let's see it in action!
As a Taxes player, a Vial free taxes deck was painful to watch. But hopefully more people can be aware of this archetype :) fun deck.
Vial is certainly the biggest possible upgrade.
Oh my god seth, i had to pause the video for a minute when you played that useless mangara instead of blinking stormbreath...that game was very winnable
Vince would be proud of you for playing this Seth.
It is a Vince-esque deck.
I might be wrong here...but because of Devoid, Displacer is Colorless, right? Couldn't you have just used its Flicker effect against Stormbreath to allow you to swing/keep it locked down?
Do you have ideas for a emrakul amplifire deck maybe nahiri etc?
Mangara would also work with resto angel or flickerwisp + aether vial. Might be good in a flicker deck though the 3 slot becomes full if you're also running spell queller or reflector mage.
It would be cool to have the beard cam for the gameplay as well!

An Aven Mindcensor or 2 could have put some work in without vial for the arbiters
This deck looks great for me as a new player without the expensive mana base yet.
Game 2 of match 1 I think I would have kept the hand as well. Thalia seemed so important to the match up. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was a good keep
Would grand abolisher be an okay replacement for tithe taker if I don’t have any?
Devoid is a keyword you should review Seth. Specifically for that ponza match up.
did seth forget devoid on eldrazi displacer makes pro. white not work at 32:40 ? and then forgets to ghost quarter the red sources....... for shame Seth
Is Rest in Peace too expensive for the budget or is Remorseful Cleric just a better option?

Rest in Peace is too expensive, but Remorseful Cleric is also nice since we can hit it with Militia Bugler.
Everytime I make a new modern deck, Seth plays it the next week every time without fail 😮😂
Thalia doing her taxes in the thumbnail...I see what you did there!

Ugh, devoid...duh. Good call.

Wouldnt replacing tithe taker with grand abolisher just be better?
Nvm just saw it was budget they might hqve made it too hi
Grand Abolisher being WW makes it hard to cast it sometimes because of all the colorless lands.
I think Tithe Taker is better as a creature thanks to afterlife, but Grand Arbiter has a harder taxing effect on counterspells. Not sure how it evens out in the end, it's probably pretty close.
I think you should run a single basic waste against field of ruin.

Is the april fools joke the weird banner above his head?
In the match against the eldrazi the reason you had 61 cards is that you didn't actually take out the kor skyfisher
Ah, that explains it.
April is tax season.
In the middle of the video, does Seth ever figure out that Displacer can target Stormbreath?
He didnt have a colorless source to use it.
I feel like instead of the mangara, you should've just exiled stormbreath to get in a huge attack.
Please blink stormbreath with displacer!

I love Mana Tithe, but it's sort of rough with Thalia.
Isn't GRAND ABOLISHER better than Tithe Taker?
It's worse as a creature, but better at fighting counterspells and the like.
That goblin deck was so bad. Is it better than it appeared those two games?
I'm so sick of April fools jokes. I'm glad to see he's just playing a normal budget magic deck. *ominous silence*
You keep missing to ghost quarter them when you have Arbiter out and they tap down =/
Having played both DnT and GR Ponza archetypes, I can definitely say Seth would have had that match in the bag.
Yeah, I think we needed to start attacking into Stormbreath about a turn earlier.
Seeing Tithe Taker affecting fetchlands hurts

Why not play your lands first in match 1 game 2. You got punished by getting logic knot X=1 while having a land in your hand. I notice you do this a lot, not playing lands first. Why is that?
