I know right?! I did as a kid but complained and quit showing up for class and now I regret it! I did the same thing with piano classes lol but the good thing is we’re not dead yet so we could start at anytime, put in the hard work and consistency and be decent in a year or two at pretty much anything. Art, music, dance, weightlifting,languages etc just takes a solid year or two

Of course Taekwondo and Hollywood stunts are no street fight, but absolutely any fighting experience in any martial arts tournament make you a thougher opponent in street fight that the average MF. Those idiots that would try attacking you in the street are usually black belts in eating kebabs, intimidating people and launching a random hook, but they are terrible fighters. Usually, not getting impressed is enough for them to freak out and keep a reasonable distance, finding an excuse for calling you like "uh nah just thought you were looking at me nvm". So if you turn towards them with no fucking fear and say : "Yeah, tf you want?", and are indeed used to dodge and read opponents attacks, your chances of losing are strictly lower than those of the average MF.

Of course Hollywood stunts are useless. But by the time you practiced taekwondo enough to reach black belt 4th dan, you've fought way more opponents that the average MF.
Of course it's controlled fight under rules. Still gives you a significant advantage in experience.
Once again, of course if the guy weight 100kg and hit her in the face by surprise, she is fucking done. Like anybody. But if you have 2 persons getting attacked by the same guy in the same context, one is this woman and the other is a random woman of the same weight, and you ask me to bet on which one will defend herself the best, the right bet is this girl every day. The simple fact of training help you acquire confidence in your fighting abilities, which greatly increase your chances.
Maybe she will only go from 1% to 2% chances to survive, that's still putting her far above the average quidam. You don't train to become bulletproof or to be able to miraculously dodge an off guard jab. Because it's impossible.
There is nothing like street fight, but there is still plenty of way to improve at street fight. Practicing martial arts is one of those.

A couple months ago, she came over to where i live during her vacation, she ended up having to walk down a dark road late at night to my apartment(i lived in a rather bad area) and got jumped by a 5'10 dude.
Now, she isn't a small person(she is about 5'10/5'11), and is pretty muscular, with 2~3 years of experience in hand to hand combat.
She is literally TRAINED to kill another geared up, well trained dude.
She got a black eye and fractured rib.
Guy got a couple bruises and an assault charge.

Agreed. At 61 I've been in pub fights, street fights and prison fights. I am not big, but am surprisingly strong, intelligent I almost always win. I've beaten some big scary men. The only exceptions have ALWAYS been trained fighters. Trained martial arts and boxing. I'm better than the average but no chance against trained fighters I know. These clowns who spout off are as you say clueless.

This question has been answered decades ago. Taekwondo consistently underperforms against other martial arts, especially grappling arts like wrestling, judo and jiu jitsu.
A double leg takedown would be enough, you dont learn takedown defence or groundfighting in TKD.
A good osoto gari would be enough too.

You do if you are practicing ITF style Taekwondo. We have to demonstrate grappling, locks and holds,chokes etc. and ground level fighting. Just because you are at floor level doesn't mean you can't fight back still. And very effectively at that.
Those of us who take our chosen martial art seriously, are educated enough to know the difference between competition sparring(like boxing) with it's rules and regulations, is designed to show the ART of Taekwondo. That's why, no kicks below the belt/waist. That's why only successful blows to the front and side of the body count. It's a very small area we are permitted to attack in competition Taekwondo ,ITF style.
Nor do we wear body armour.
At black belt level, our tournaments are full contact. Groin guards for both male and female are required. Gum shields,(good ones)compulsory too. Head gear compulsory. It won't stop concussion, but it will stop fractures.
And females are required to wear chest guards now too.
But don't think for a minute we don't teach how to survive on the street too..
I am retired now at 61. But during my thirties and forties I worked night club security. We can't use any of the flashy stuff because it's not appropriate level of retaliation to a blow.
We use police appro ed and senior army(infantry) fighting methods.
Because if it's a " fight", it's real and has no rules. At all. Dealing with wasted men with a nose full of Peruvian marching powder can't work with the competition and dojang rules.
There are no rules when fighting. For security staff, we must try to only use the minimum force needed to incapacitate the attacker.
We don't wear safety gloves, shin pads, foot pads. Groin and chest guards, yes. But it's bare knuckle stuff.
And of course. Itf doesn't teach weapons training. Which is a good job, because use a full length sword does attract a little attention while walking around. And as a blade like that is illegal in most countries outside of a training hall or competition arena ,they're not much use. What works, is close quarters fighting.. we do teach that. It's essential.
I'm 5'2" and worked a nightclub door for a few years.
I've also been attacked once or twice in the evening walking home.
They,(yes, they)didn't get up.

In ITF at least, 4th Dan is expert. Only 7th and eighth Dan is master. Ninth Dan is Grand Master.
I'm a 4th Dan. Female and 61. I'm disabled due to various back conditions and I walk with a cane about 50%of the time. And at this age, with grey hair and a walking cane ,I have suffered assault.
They didn't get up either.
But I did need a hot bath and a visit to the chiropractor the next day because my back was put out,🤣🤣🤣
I’m only 16 and I’m testing for my fourth dan in late July. Our system is a little different from taekwondo, but fourth dan is still no joke.

The fact a 16 year old can qualify for 4th dab is insane, in BJJ you have to be 18 minimum to achieve a black belt let alone 4th degree which takes decades.
You haven't exactly made a great case for TKD not being a joke. Doesn't matter how many ranks there are, the art itself just doesn't hold up to modern standards. I'm sure it might have been impressive in the 70s or 80s but these days people are aware that grappling arts are generally better than striking, and TKD is fairly low on the list of effective striking arts. TKD tool all the worst bits of karate and left out all the good bits and amped it up to 11. A judoka would cream themselves with how often TKD practitioners off-balance themselves by being on one foot for 90% of the fight.
Don't even need to apply kuzushi because they do it themselves.

But most likely a fully grown decently athletic man would win the fight, in a street fight, there are no rules.

But in any mildly enclosed space, a man (who is stronger), could charge at her, take 1 hit, and then most likely win.

@jota123jot half of what's shown here is more flash, but there is substance, maximizing center mass and weight distribution onto your target, there's a gym/boxing ring Here and there's one of those punch meter rigs (a actual one, not a flimsy arcade one) and it keeps score of the top 20 hits for the given month, at 4th place at 1,458lbs was a woman whom does ^ takwando/jujistu as well as only weighing 110lbs at 5'5 and she was only 150lbs on the score board less than 1st place me, and I'm a 250lb guy at 5'11 with only basic bish knowledge on how to punch properly.
For reference, she is apparently 5ft2 and weighs 100 lbs

I've sparred with plenty of females and the moment you turn up the heat to 50% it's just over for them. You can get hit 50 times and it does nothing . And you can lay out a female with a 25 power shot , that's clean , easily .

She weighs like 120 pounds. Maybe if she was a BJJ artist it would be different but if you close distance and get your hands in her it’s pretty much over for her because she is a striking fighter. Even if she is good at BJJ in a street fight I don’t think she would have a chance. I got the chance to roll with someone who was only 20 pounds lighter then me and every time he had me in a lock which took all his skills I was able to pick him up and slam him. It just doesn’t work.

Which is why I’d we are talking about a street fight she stands no chance against many people bigger then her. I’ve fought boxers my weight in the cage and truth be told getting through the first few hits can be tough but once you get them in a toss or on the ground it’s game over from that point forward. The problem with boxing is your restricted to your reach but when I close that distance your screwed.
