A combination of not having social media and their sound being so gritty & grimy. These new kids have to compete with a million other people trying to crank out trap songs in their bedrooms over the Internet. Most modern dudes songs are danceable, 'Enter The 36 Chambers' in no way shape or form was meant for dancing or autotune. The shit was meant, at the time, to be the hardest, grittiest beats with the rawest bars over the top.
Yo way to keep the classics in their place, dude. Wu Tang is the ideal model for building a rap crew. U-God's book Enter the Wu Tang is basically a manual for getting off the streets and into the studio. I'm building a little homegrown label right now in Springfield, MO called Beat Kitchen, and all my artists are required to be skilled in Tongue-Fu. Thanks for keeping it 100 and making these kids see truth.
Wu-Tang songs are some of the first songs that got me to rap, alongside Biggie. I heard their stuff even before I knew who they were, and then kept hearing the songs around different places still not knowing who they were. Later I found them again consciously and instantly remembered the songs I had heard before and got real hits of nostalgy. Awesome artists, and they have really pushed the whole community and culture forward. They'll always be a huge inspiration for me.
Man, Murs. This was a BEAUTIFUL breakdown of why Wu-Tang's influence will never, ever be surpassed. It's way too much noise out there now for a group to takeover like they did plus I can't see that level of originality ever being assembled again. Salute to you for this piece, Brother! Excellent!!

Brother Murs you are so correct. We were even listening to this shit down in TN. Wu took over and only those old enough to have witnessed it as it happened can truly appreciate it
Im feeling that new album so far. but quickly I gotta say this made me remember when 36 chambers first came out I was in high school and I remember my entire senior year of high school was dominated by Wu.....My physics class turned into a Wu-tang discussion course mostly because my teacher was a herb and nobody cared about his lesson. We talked about the science of lyrics instead of the laws of motion....lol
This is it. I was mad about that last video, but the Golden Era MCs should deserve much more media attention like this video you put on. The younger generation needs to respect more the 90s sound of Hip-Hop, because without them the game wouldn't be the same like now.
younger generation should respect the older dudes, just look at rock - the 80s broke new ground for the first half of the decade and then artists got cocky and thought the sound from prevous decades was outdated but grunge and alternative came along which respected that the artists of the 60s and 70s could write some damn good melodies and harmonies and embraced the influences and music was 1000% better in 1993 than it was in 1987

When 36 Chambers dropped, it changed my life. I grew up to underground and not so underground punk/industrial in Ny/NJ. And yeah, I listened to the Beatie Boys but The Wu lit my hip hop fire. I was a skateboarder in NYC and that turned into me tagging buildings, learning break dancing going to Rocksteady competitions and learning from Crazy Legs and Mr Wiggles, and going to DJ competitions and rap battles from NY to Jersey to Philly. I was already in the culture loving it but the Wu Tang Clan spoke to me. In love with Gritty, lyrically driven, woke hip hop from that moment on. I buy every record, yeah record, that Wu Tang or it's members drop and I love the mix in my crates because of them. From the Ramones to De La Soul. Music is everything and I'll always be that punk kid from the streets loving on good rap music for the rest of my life. Wu Tang Forever.
I love your point at the end. A lot of us old timers talk shit about mumble rap and the oversaturation of trap beats but if we aren't using our purchasing power then of course the Industry will cater to what sells right now.

Im going to a show called Gods Of Rap 23rd of May this year in Oslo, Norway. Finally gonna see Wu-Tang, De La Soul, Public Enemy and DJ Premier. Im hyped as SHIT. Just wanted to flash off to someone😂
Those last lines gave me the chill, the ones where you say we gotta give them love before they die, for some reason, people tend to make others legendary when they die and dont give a fuck about it before. Love ya m8
So back in the day they used that beat in a skit before Verbal Intercourse from Rae's Cuban Linx album. I was like "yo what song is that". Then I found out it was for a St. Ides and I was like HOLY SHIT! Waste of beat...

I love the way he broke this down.
Wutang Clan Forever, no we don't die we just multiply forever and ever and ever and ever!

I can watch this video a million times.... I love the passion and love the hip hop analysis. Intelligent, objective, passionate, opinionated and extremely entertaining. Absolutely the best! WuTang 4foreva. Thank you Murs. aka....Arrogant Prophet...haha. Love it!
WuTang Forever!! Thanks bro you actually hit me over the head with those WU-Commercial
Im going to a show called Gods Of Rap 23rd of May this year in Oslo, Norway. Finally gonna see Wu-Tang, De La Soul, Public Enemy and DJ Premier. Im hyped as SHIT.
Just wanted to flash off to someone😂
Eirik-Andre Johansen how the fuck was it bro
Murs youre amazing man
I'm surprised Murs didn't mention RZA's movie the Man with the Iron Fists.
Chris Camerino that movie was garbage.
Dope soundtrack, Rivers Of Blood with G Rap was banging.
Ok I haven't heard the soundtrack.
Love that passion and energy...that’s why MURS is still one of my favorite MC’s
Those last lines gave me the chill, the ones where you say we gotta give them love before they die, for some reason, people tend to make others legendary when they die and dont give a fuck about it before. Love ya m8
Raekwon and ghostface original albums went platinum
Shackling the masses with drastic rap tactics
The beer commercial could’ve been released as an LP..seriously
So back in the day they used that beat in a skit before Verbal Intercourse from Rae's Cuban Linx album. I was like "yo what song is that". Then I found out it was for a St. Ides and I was like HOLY SHIT! Waste of beat...
Everything stopped when that St. Ides commercial came on
That artwork behind you is amazing. You should drop the artist and a full overview of the set
I personally think "Snakes" from ODB is one of the, if not THE, best rap songs ever.
