- Justin Townes Earle's second performance on Letterman performing 'Look The Other Way' on 28 February 2012. Stick around for Letterman's praise at the end - "a very nice boost of spirits"!
This one disappeared from the internet a while ago as far as I can tell; it's heartbreaking to share it again under these circumstances. Hopefully it can stay up for the sake of posterity.
Rest in peace JTE.
This has been off YT for YEARS. So glad it's back up, but so sorry as to why.... what a loss.
He was so awesome 👏 I love him most , for his uniqueness, and so much talent and soul in his music ; always in my heart JT and I’ll never forget all the times I was lucky enough to see you perform! Thank you and RIP
what an enormously gifted young man...beyond tragic that we--and his family--lost him so soon..
He is fire, he is gold, he is dynamite. RIP Townes, you'll never be forgotten
My posthumous introduction. Listened to his dad for years. This is life changing
Hard to believe this genious has gone. His music changed so many things in my life. RIP, JTE.
It's always fun to see Dave get excited about a musical guest and every time JTE came on the show you could tell Dave was a fan.
Reminds me of Warren zevon
What a man!! God bless
I can't agree more. Dave lit up like a Christmas Tree when JTE did Harlem River Blues
Rest easy Justin your music inspired me in ways that no one can understand
Love his dad's stuff, but JTE really took it to a new place
Man. What a style of music. So different in his own original way. Man, no one can compare to the song writing nor singing. God just so dam good.
Certifiable genius
Was very fortunate to see him a few years ago. Just him and a guitar, but he commanded the room. One of the best shows I've ever seen. RIP, Justin.
RIP one of the best
A long time fan, I just found out about his death. I'm still in disbelief. I thought he was doing better since he got married and had a kid. This sucks so bad. I live in Canada and I always thoght I might make a road trip across the border to see him live one day. He was an original.
he had the feel of a gifted tortured soul in the same realm of Hank Williams SR in my humble opinion
I love his style! What a great songwriter. The band he's with is really nice, got to love the horns!
So talented. So sad the ending.
His talent was boundless... He was just getting into his best years.
My wife and I were at this taping. It was the first time we had ever heard JTE and definitely the best way to be introduced to a new artist. Thanks for posting !
💕RIP JTE you played a huge part in my life musically. Love you!
Like father like son. Perfection. Justin needed to make the progression happen quicker-- cause I do believe Justin knew he just might be runnin’ outta time
Where there's good music there's hope...thanks JTE!
A lovely version. Dave loved great live music
Kid was really talented. Part his father, part Elvin Bishop, part Radney Foster. All in a good way. Wish it could have lasted. It was good while it did.
My god, what an amazing talent. And singing about his own demise. Not only in this song but in Harlem River Blues. Can't hear either of them without thinking about what a talented beautiful young man this world lost.
Wow, awesome performance. sad he's gone. David is genuinely delighted.
RIP Justin.
Damn this guy is talented. Too bad he passed away.
JTE lives forever!!!
Been looking for this for years. Justin and Dave--it just doesn't get any better than this
What talent!
Impeccable style. Miss him so much!
Rest easy my friend.
So much talent, a master of his trade. so young and gone. We love you down under, Aussie Tim (RIP) I suffer your disease and hate it.
AA and NA in every country. Has saved many an addict
Incredible
What a talented artist..Miss him..
🙏🏼 RIP
What a loss.
Always real.
Love the horns killer WORDS
JTE in the zone 100%. Pure stuff.
miss him
Such a great talent... I'm glad to have see him live in San Francisco a couple of times...
Glad this is back-Dave seemed to loved him.
So glad this video is back, I used to be obsessed with it way back in 2012. Great song. RIP
Mama Im hurtin' in the worst way
So talented
David really showed how impressed he was with Justin after the song. I think David would have liked more time to talk with him
Incredible.
very cool song ~ we love you Justin
☮️
It was a very nice boost of spirit.
Rest In Peace young blood
Although he doesn't look like Steve, boy does he have his dad's talent. Rest in peace.
Love the way Justin pulled the guitar string up , but he had stopped doing it as he was snapping too many stings 😯 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
How have I been a diehard Steve Earle fan for 25 years and never knew he had a son ? And then to learn he passed away . I’ve got some catching up to do
Rest his soul
thank so much for posting
I love 💕 u
another we lost too soon
Dave holds the album upside down at the end..
RIP JTE
Have not listened to Justin Townes Earle for a long time. I almost forgot how freakin' awesome his music is.
"A nice boost of spirit."
Smokin performer
❤❤❤❤❤
I remember seeing this before and kind of wondered if Dave held the album upside down at the end because JTE sarcastically thanks the state of Indiana on the back cover. Probably not, though.
💗
Justin’s guitar is horribly out of tune. Maybe why this was buried. Still a great performance and still one of my all time favorites. I’d put him up there with his namesake and father. RIP JTE.
God dammit.
♥️♥️♥️😝 i
Drugs are bad.
Well JTE kicked arse live with a good band huh? Clearly, he was a tortured soul you can see right here the effects of drugs in his composure. He thought he needed to destroy himself to make art he said.....
He actually said that he got over that. But the covid nonsense didn't help. Many have slipped back into depression and addiction. He said himself he was trying to be a better dad but he didn't know how to do anything else. Brother was on the road since 15...
