Such brilliant storytelling. A huge, heartfelt series of trauma dumps, followed by sincere, loving words, all set up for us to be utterly disgusted by Cloud. Love this story and these characters so much
Oh hell yeah.. it's going to make Cloud's reintegration so. Much. Better than even the original. When he learns to forgive himself in the lifestream and gets all of his memories back, it's gonna be awesome. I hope Square Enix can pull it off just right like they did with everything in Rebirth
My game glitched out when I got to this part and the music wasn’t playing. Honestly I loved it and it felt powerful still. To just hear Aerith’s speech without any background music was still touching. If anything it made the moment more solemn.
"Are you finished?" At first, when I heard that line, I thought Cloud was being a dick. However, when you get further on to where Cloud is facing his own demons in "The Trial of Cloud" and the guilt over the loss of lives at his hands and being taunted by Sephiroth, you realize it's not that he's being a dick. It's about how much guilt he feels over the lives lost that he fought beside and his fear of turning into Sephiroth.
@@Justajawnie Seeing as how a lot of the arguments going on with Remake/Rebirth are on whether or not the game makers are overcomplicating the story as compared with just being blunt and direct instead of trying to read into things, I'm not arguing this.
I've just finished the game and have come back to this scene as I have heard that the clue to what is going to happen in the third & final game is in this speech. Now that I have heard this speech back, it all makes complete sense and I can see how everything is going to play out & end ❤
This speech makes sense for everybody with the exception of Red... She talks about life and death, but about Red there's not a true loss. devs could show a different memory, like: his parents or the female friend of his race who lost.
Since both Red and Aerith had visions of the future in Remake, and Red is still aware that Aerith’s life is in danger in Rebirth, Aerith’s speech to Red can also be seen as referring to her own fate.
A Theology professor recommended this speech?? That's very intriguing! Was it as a part of a commentary/lesson on any specific type of theology or belief system? Her speech was reminiscent to me of a through-line between many religions (Christianity, Mahayana Buddhism, Taoism...various others).
@@ADPax10 Hi again -- well, actually, I'm the Theology teacher, not a student in the class! ^_^ (Not a college professor; I teach in a Catholic high school.) I posted the original comment for students to "like" if they saw it. :) I showed it to make different points in my different classes, and also just to show it for its own sake. We compared, contrasted, and related it to various aspects of Catholic theology -- e.g., similarities but also differences between the Lifestream vs. Catholicism's concepts of Heaven, the Church as Christ's Mystical Body, etc. And the words about forgiveness we related to Jesus forgiving His killers on the cross. And I mean, the whole speech is just so beautiful, and also just so true -- like, it's so true that knowing/believing that our loved ones are in whatever kind of afterlife one might believe in still doesn't take away the pain of being separated from them for the rest of one's own time in this life. I played the original FFVII when it came out (I'm 41; I was born in 1982) and have re-played it many times (I was/am a big fan of RPGs from that time; other favorites include FFIV, FFVI, FF Tactics, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Suikoden I & II, Wild ARMs, Vagrant Story, etc.) -- but after getting to college, I just kind of stopped playing new games, even though I would still re-play the games. With FFVII Remake, though, I watched a playthroughs of it when it came out to see all the story scenes; with FFVII Rebirth, I've skipped around, but this summer, I'll watch the whole thing. I mean, like, for various reasons, it's more the story, music, characters, etc. that I want to experience right now; I don't really need/want to actually play the new games. I'm still constantly listening to all the soundtracks -- and I also music from various RPGs (and TV shows, movies, etc.) all the time in class as soundtracks for particular passages we read, or just as music while students are working on something, etc. ^_^
@JesuitsRule Well I'm glad I was talking to you then, rather than a student! LOL. You must be an interesting and awesome teacher. I, too, grew up with the OG in the late 90s when I was just a preteen (and replayed it many, many times as you did). I think you'll love Rebirth in its full continuity. AND you'll find plenty more allusions to the Perrenial wisdoms contained within some our oldest spiritual systems (obviously including the Christ story =) ) Don't know how they did it, but if I may say so, Square Enix really struck a chord of resonance with a lot of people from around the world from a lot of different backgrounds (whether spiritually or nationally); and I would venture a guess that that's because they integrated and seamlessly tied together some very fundamental concepts of humanity that we can all relate with! Not sure how they'll beat that with some prospective magnum opus that's supposed to be part 3!😆
@@ADPax10 Hi; thanks so much for your kind words about me as a teacher! :) And yeah, that's true about how they've appealed to people of so many different backgrounds, and tied so much together, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing more of those spiritual ideas you mentioned in FFVII Rebirth too!
Am I the only one who laughs at this? This whole plotline about changing future got complely wasted and Cloud can never stop Sephiroth from killing Aerith.
This speech directly foreshadows the ending, about how loss matters whether the person “lives on” or not. It’s the speech that tells you the theme of the game and how lost Cloud is by denying the reality of what happened to Aerith.
@@dellapjLoss matters yes. But loss still hurts (as Aerith acknowledges) and that's precisely what Sephiroths needs for his new reunion. Given what's been shown in the ending, i think different people can have a different meaning about the ending, the meaning of Aerith's speech, and the link between the two.
@@dellapjnope. Go back n watch the marlene scenes with zack. Then listen to the lyrics of No Promises. Cloud will get better n save aerith. N zack is gonna help with that.
The Trials, then Aerith's Word's and then Cloud's Ice Cold Reaction. This Part took me to pretty much any Emotions. First I was sad, then I was ready again after Aerith's Words and then mad about Cloud. Absolut amazing what they done here.🫡

"Clock's ticking, c'mon"
"I know..."
💔
I wonder if Cloud will think of that later.

Shirou: "The people dies when they are killed."
0:23
Aerith: "Hold my flower."
Tbf, that wasn't true for Shirou either.
For what I've saw in UA-cam, Cloud being mind controlled be like:
"I don't remember asking you advice"
I gotta admit, I wasn’t a fan of Aerith in the original FF7 but man she’s grown on me while playing the remake games.
Me too❤

I wanna give her a BIG HUG :(
I love her
If anyone is confused about the ending, this speech is a great codex for it.
Meaning ? Not in a Maximillian Dood way.
My God I love this character so so so much. They have to give her back to us...
Losing makes me emotional
“The past is set is stone.”
Those Stamp mascots beg to differ.
Omg that music. I cant hold it...

2:18 meme for sure 🤣
This is Cloud's moment
Man...Aerith got me in the "feels" with that powerful speech ❤
Cloud struggling to restrain his inner Garland
Can anyone find the song for the speech part?
Looking for the song as well
Its ff7 main theme
"The past is set in stone"
Yeah until they reboot the series a third time.

Why is cloud being so cold
Sephiroth is giving him a hard time.
I hate that .
Made up persona ahhh moment
The Jenova reunion effect. He’s losing himself.
No
Aerith giving an inspirational speech to the party to motivate them to stop Sephiroth
Cloud: "Bitch, you done with your yappin?" lmao

I think cloud needs another good bitchslap from Berret. snap the egdelord out of him.
