Blogs WERE individual PERSONAL commentaries, for those who didn't have the time or capability or resources to Build a website. But, now there are different Types of blogs. There are news blogs, there are review blogs, there are corporate blogs, there are personal blogs, there are hobbyist / specialized blogs, et cetera. You have to find the types and the specific sites you like, and check there.
U guys definitely got it right guys provide a service of putting music and dialogue and it it up to the viewer to make their own decision I like the fact that its the four if you so the opinions on your show is very diverse big up C-Town
Lord. I can't wait until part 2 airs so this stops. We're gonna have to just start being serious at all times because you guys take almost everything we say 100% at face value.
Nah, I expect everyone to be able to use basic deductive reasoning (which apparently is asking too much). If you've watched our show more than a few times you'd know that not everything I say is 100% serious. But if thinking I'm often full of shit works for you then that's perfectly fine with me.
Myke C-Town kills it again in the ending. I luv this guy's wit. "If Soulja Boy offers you 10k to make a beat for him, would you make it for him?" "Nope, fuck Soulja Boy." "YOU'RE A F**KING LIAR!"
And I agree with them that the radio is different. It almost sounds like DEHH is saying that blogs have an obligation to show people what exists, but a personal blog doesn't. That's what bigger blogs are for. A radio station does have an obligation to play alot of stuff their DJs may not like, because it's not grounded in a personal opinion; it's grounded in public opinion.
I think what the guests were saying is that a blog can be someone's opinion, but it doesn't have to be what "you" like. They're saying, a blogger can say "here's what I like, and I want people with similar tastes to join this community"
hip hop is never ever ever ever ever ever ever gonna be like it was...its never gonna be like it was from 85'-95' so either listen to what we have now or dont
I'm really interested to see in part 2 if album reviews are discussed. Sometimes it seems that reviews are either paid for or written so that a larger artist's fan base won't berate the site. About the selling a beat thing, it all sounds good until a bag of money is slid on the table.
Exactly, I don't understand why Deadend Hip Hip has a problem with that . I Personally like going to blogs that are made by people that share the same the same tastes in music as me and don't play anything that they don't like. If they have the same taste in music as me then most likely the same things they don't like, I won't like. I don't want to spend Half of my time funneling through garbage to find something good.
Did you ever try reading up on the reason why DJ Premier produced her album, It is because he found out that (In his own words) She can Sing and she knows her Hip Hop.
just as most of these new age "hip hop fans" don't know the CLEAR difference between a "rapper" and a "MC", they too fail to understand the CLEAR difference between a "blog" and a "website". Blog = media outlet for an individual to express his/her opinion. Website = media outlet designed to provide a platform for a product with PROFIT as the primary goal.
They're coming at this from a more personal blog perspective. They feel that a post should come from their views, their opinions and not for views/money. Bigger sites on the other hand are growing their brand and becoming more lucrative. it's an integrity issue, you want to make money while sticking to your guns.
I get where the two dudes are coming from, but they are stuck on a model that's being faded out now because of the business aspect of blogging nowadays. I think deadendhiphop does a great job of representing an even mixture of both the older and newer blogging models.
The ending of this show shows how much people are driven by money. I honestly would not work with Soulja Boy, because I'd rather stay true to the type of music I want to make and like.
Hahha! They all seem to think I shouldn't say things like that on camera. Concerned with people really thinking I'm gay (like I would give half a fuck). I think Ken was just thinking "goddammit, Myke, would you stop doing this shit?" Hahha! He thinks I need a PR person!
I feel you on that, but I don't know if I could live with myself having a track with Soulja Boy, doe. Im less about the business and more about the self-respect
While you all may not agree with everything that goes on the site, one of you agrees with each thing. This allows for a breadth of tastes while also putting a taste to a specific source from the site. You could even add filters to the site so that i could only see ctown and feefo's posts because they align with what I like. Not saying you guys should do this..but i will say there seems to be a lot of room in the market for a website like this and you already do a lot of it in a scaled back way.
To me here's where the game got messed up. The perspective of a blog was ok radio won't play anything that's not on the top 100 charts so boom we make out own site and post what we want and what u don't usually hear. But somewhere down the line bloggers thought they were A&R's and also stopped lookin for what's hot and starting looking for traffic. Which eventually turned into blogs posting too 100 chart songs.
Can't wait for the Cruel Summer Review if these guys are indeed doing it. As I digress I really do not like most the Blogs that are out there. A lot of bullshit happens behind the scenes and most of the sites are not out and honest about there practices.
"You said top producers, they can afford to turn down 10 G's because they don't like the artist, these dudes can't." This was the point I was making in my last comment when I said damn right I would sell Soulja a beat. Then some dude was like..."You would produce for Soulja for money!?" Damn right, lol Soulja is famous, and I'm not sooo. Once I could afford to not do that shit anymore, I won't.
and velocitiesinmusic. these guys often review albums better than anthony fantano does. For example, good kid M.a.a.D city, they did a great job on that one.
Last thing and i'll shut up. I use to be a hiphopdx fan but i decided i really just wanted the music and not the extra editorial. I then went to nahright, which is all music almost not editorial from the hosts. I then went from there to 2dope and have stayed because there's a good balance between just music and a bit of chatter from the posters so you get a feel for who they are. Point is, each decision to switch was based on my tastes and the specific tastes and characteristics of each page.
I feel you, but I'm just one of those dudes where I'm not close-minded to the point where I won't try new things, but I'm not going to try things that I deem as being low quality music. Example: If I was making beats for like a Mos Def or even like a MF DOOM style rappers, I'll try something new that I think is on that same caliber, but I'm not going to start making Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy bang in your trunk type of songs.
Yea i kinda agree with you.. some people got principles and don't compromise them no matter what. I'm not necessarily saying these guys do (i dont know them) but some people got morals like that fuh real. I for one respect anyone who still got such values in today's world. Some people would say "fuck it" when they actually see that paper though.. lol. But yea i feel you..
both sides made sense. I see what those guys are saying cause yeah, it does kinda suck when you gotta sit through some average music to find some stuff that is actually good, but you also gotta have a balance to gain more viewers, and thus gain more views for the not as known artists you've got on your site
I actually believe what Abnormal said about Soulja Boy. I wouldn't work with him for all the money in the world. It's all about artistic integrity, god dammit. It's about having respect for yourself as an artist
Nope. No one said that. We didn't say it was an obligation. We said it was a choice. If a blog wants to post shit, it's their right. These two were complaining that they don't use discretion in what goes on their site. Our point was...so what? If you don't like what a blog is posting you don't have to go to it. To be honest...I actually thought this was a dumb topic. No offense to Looped Daydreams and Abnormal, but I didn't see the point in even discussing this.
I'm saying the dudes are lying to themselves not because I'm "money driven and materialistic" but b/c of their reaction. I said I wouldn't mind working with someone with music I didn't like. How the hell is that selling out? Also I clearly said I wouldn't work with someone who had music I simply could not support(for serious reasons) and someone I didn't like personally....no amount of money in the world could make me work with someone for those 2 reasons.....
Most of the Top Producers such as Dj Premier won't sell there beats to anyone that they feel is wack. What's wrong with these guys doing the same thing. There is a thing called Artistic Integrity and most Artists that live by this are rewarded with Longevity.
People are so money driven and materialistic nowadays that when people are being genuine about turning down $10,000, it's met with skepticism and doubt. I honestly believe that dude wouldn't work with Soulja Boy because he's sticking true to what he believes is good music. All you other people can go sell out all you want
I get the point about people submitting stuff - I do my own reviewing blog and I've had a fair few submissions from bands at the early stage, and I just can't bring myself to do a review for some of them, I just don't understand the style or think the stuff is even "good". Anyway, the end cracked me up, haha. Myke, try get endorsements from Corona!
Shit if Soulja Boy came to me with $10k I'd sell it to him in a heartbeat. I don't care if it's Trey from down the street whose never rapped a day in his life. If he's willing to buy I'll sell him whatever he wants.
I thought Blogs were a personal thing. DJ's get paid to play everybody's music so if a blogger isn't getting paid to blog than they don't have to put up music they personally don't like unless its suggested by a fan of that blog.
Just as with other parts of the Culture it all goes back to People. Why are certain blogs more popular? Before blogs and big sites We used to DIG all over the net for that fresh dope shit, ourselves and share. Some still do. But It's People that direct attention to certain things. Kid invents a car: 30,000 views. Kid fights a homeless dude in McDonalds parking lot: 3,000,000 views. lol
Ken is the mainstream guy, Feefo is the beats guy, Mike is the alternative one, and Beezy is the hip hop purist
Exactly! "What differentiates a blog from another one if not for personality and expression of taste"
Agreed.
I really like this set-up, with the guys online and DEHH talking to them like that. You guys should do that more if you can
You guys make my work day so much better
U guys definitely got it right guys provide a service of putting music and dialogue and it it up to the viewer to make their own decision I like the fact that its the four if you so the opinions on your show is very diverse big up C-Town
Lord. I can't wait until part 2 airs so this stops. We're gonna have to just start being serious at all times because you guys take almost everything we say 100% at face value.
Myke always talking real shit, even when I disagree with him, there's a logic behind it all. Mad props. Matter of fact, mad props to all of DEHH.
Nah, I expect everyone to be able to use basic deductive reasoning (which apparently is asking too much). If you've watched our show more than a few times you'd know that not everything I say is 100% serious. But if thinking I'm often full of shit works for you then that's perfectly fine with me.
*Feefo's voice*
At the end of the day
Definitely mine, I wish they could upload twice a day or something, their conversations are therapeutic to me as I like debating with friends myself.
Myke C-Town kills it again in the ending. I luv this guy's wit.
"If Soulja Boy offers you 10k to make a beat for him, would you make it for him?"
"Nope, fuck Soulja Boy."
"YOU'RE A F**KING LIAR!"

Did Myke just make a Don't Be A Menace While Drinking Juice In The Hood reference? Mad respect
People have the right to get paid for their time if they choose to.
I think what the guests were saying is that a blog can be someone's opinion, but it doesn't have to be what "you" like.
They're saying, a blogger can say "here's what I like, and I want people with similar tastes to join this community"

9th Wonder said: Get a check. Get a check! Blogs are the new radio whether people like it or not.
"Yall the lyin ass twins, what the hell"-Myke at the end lol

ey anyone else look up this dude abnormal's beats? sons too raw.

Bigger sites on the other hand are growing their brand and becoming more lucrative. it's an integrity issue, you want to make money while sticking to your guns.
Myke's quote about repping the gays was classic. Hahah.
There is a difference in working w/ an artist and selling an artist a beat IMO
Yeah, I guess there are some people who wouldn't make a beat for an artist they don't like.
I get where the two dudes are coming from, but they are stuck on a model that's being faded out now because of the business aspect of blogging nowadays. I think deadendhiphop does a great job of representing an even mixture of both the older and newer blogging models.

Anthony needed to be on this video, he would ave some ultra insight.
I feel you on that, but I don't know if I could live with myself having a track with Soulja Boy, doe. Im less about the business and more about the self-respect
They've got emails you can hit them up at. Check the website for contact information.
I Love this Intro Vid

Hahah!
Myke's question to Abnormal was answered honestly because Ab seems to have intergrity. Can't be mad at him for that.

Eat cereal, and read the watch the Wallstreet journal. :D

Dmx - undisputed
You guys should get Meka or Shake from 2dopeboyz to come on the show for part 2.
Shout out to @beezy430's shirt
I love Myke.
I want that FL Studio shirt.
I actually believe what Abnormal said about Soulja Boy. I wouldn't work with him for all the money in the world. It's all about artistic integrity, god dammit. It's about having respect for yourself as an artist
Should be coming out tomorrow or tonight.
Christ almighty...
music isn't really music anymore, it's more like a business..

they can get paid by advertisers if their blog has enough traffic
im just not gonna check my sub box this late anymore lol. i was just about to go to sleep

As long as you guys are not talking about a review of an artist in the context of "putting on" someone's music then I can dig it.
I didn't like Feefo at first. I found him kind of simple and goofy. However, he has proven me very wrong.
Myke, I swear you always reply to messages. No one else. Just you. That's partly why everyone either loves you or hates you. No in between. Lol
Sigh...no one's mad...
Most of the Top Producers such as Dj Premier won't sell there beats to anyone that they feel is wack. What's wrong with these guys doing the same thing. There is a thing called Artistic Integrity and most Artists that live by this are rewarded with Longevity.

@abnormalisdope sounds uncannily like A-F-R-O.
I get the point about people submitting stuff - I do my own reviewing blog and I've had a fair few submissions from bands at the early stage, and I just can't bring myself to do a review for some of them, I just don't understand the style or think the stuff is even "good". im starting to wonder what Feefo does at the beginning of a day....
awesome shit
lol he just says at the end of the day a lot.
I don't think they would take the money.
Good...
Lol, I first thought that the abnormal fellow was the other dudes mom or something :)!
Shit if Soulja Boy came to me with $10k I'd sell it to him in a heartbeat. I don't care if it's Trey from down the street whose never rapped a day in his life. If he's willing to buy I'll sell him whatever he wants.
FEEEEEEEEEE FO
I will propose this again: Every time Feefo says "At the end of the day", take a drink. You will be fucked up by the end of the video.
cruel summer
No

Sorry. Looking at what everyone else here is saying, people are taking it literal. My apologies for lumping you in with them.
How do you get your music listened to by you guys?
