A 2x extender will make the image circle four times the size, not twice. With 2x and 1.5x extensions, the multiplying extension will be 3x. With a 3x extension, you'll lose more than 3 stops of light.

Some new Sony e-mount cameras have the clear-image zoom, a kind of electronic 2x magnifier with a very low quality loss. So, in that case, it's possible to use a normal 2/3" lens, without 2x extender.

This would also work with a Panasonic Eva 1 ?

I would like to know what simple adapter you used for the 12pin to the battery to get power for the powerzoom

    $1649? That's ludicrous.

There is an error in the video. The optical adapter is actually 1.35x. A 9mm lens becomes a 24mm lens giving similar FoV on both 2/3" and s35.

Hi Alistair thanks for the video. Does it mean the stop of light loss gets reduced as well? I have a canon c70 and want to get a longer zoom reach and was looking at this option with a canon HD lens and 2x extender. My main line of work is event coverage (churches and sometimes the venue's lighting is low. Do you reckon this will work? As in sharp images and less loss of light ...say f2.8. Many Thanks.

Not true. The adapter features a series of optical elements that change the focal length, so the focal length and thus DOF changes. At like for like apertures and FOV's the DoF will be shallower on the s35 camera. It is however of note that as there is also a corresponding light loss through the adapter the shallowest achievable DoF will be the same, i.e. on a 2/3 cam the lens might be f1.8 but on the s35 cam it will be f4.5 so the DoF would be similar.

yeah you lose 3 stop of light. 2x extender lose 2 stop light. 1.5x adapter lose another 1 stop light. so total you lose 3 stop light. That is a lot. and consider those sd lens need at least f2.8 to perform good. We are stuck at at least f8 in reality. even with amazing iso performance from camera like c100, it is still too dark for it to handle indoor.

You make it sound like this this lens has shallower DOF on an S35 camera than on a 2/3" camera, but that is not the case. The DOF and FOV will be the same on the 2/3" camera and the S35 camera with this adapter.

Perhaps I should I keep the 2/3 mount lenses for future use?

Hi, I'm trying to understand this better. I'm very interested in the JVC GY-LS300, but I can't figure out what lens I can get for it that would have a nice long zoom like 20x or more and still be a smooth zoom not like a dslr lens... No one seems to have made a video explaining how these adapters work, which ones are needed and which lenses to get that work with what adapters, etc.

I meant the link. It was broken for me when it was adapter. I changed the e to o, and the link became unbroken.

Fantastic video. Do you have a sample video or even just sample stills showing the field of view with a wide angle lens on a C300. I'm like you, I have a Fujinon 4.5HD lens not working that often but if it gave me a reasonable wide angle then this adapter would be amazing. My concern is that even at the wide end, it would still be a little too tight. Any sample stills or video would be AMAZING. Thanks, Leigh.

Hello Alistair, nice explanation here on your MTF B4 2/3" to Super35 lens adapter.
I was wondering would I be able to use this on my 5D MKII / 5D MK III/ 7D & C300 cameras and also what the cost would be for the power cable (Hirose to D-tap).
    Much appreciated
    Hugh

could you tell me what the main technical difference is between this adapter and a generic brand for app. 100.00 on ebay? I am speaking about the b4 to MFT adaptor. Thanks

I would love to get one of these but I can't find the lens power cable (Hirose to D-tap) anywhere. I also read that one of the homemade power cables on eBay shorted out the servo motor on their ENG lens. Do you have a good source for those cables? Fuji in my case..

Can somebody help me with my math here? I have a Canon 9x18 lens with a 2x, now with the 2x engaged is the 1.5x of the adapter included in the total multiplication, or after the 2x?
    Ex:
    (9x2)x1.5=27
    9x(2x1.5)=27
    9x(2+1.5)=31.5
None of my math adds up for me, cause I know that 9mm on a 2/3" chip camera is not that wide in 35mm equivalence. If my math is right...I have gear for sale, any interest??

I have three 2/3" lenses and only 1 has a extender (Nikon S15x8.5 B1-EMS 2-20) and three 1/2" lenses and 1 with an extender (Canon KH21ex5.7IRSESX12).Does this adapter work only with 2/3" lenses and only with the extenders I presume ?What is the cost too ? Also can I get it without the EF adapter as I already have a metabones EF adapter ? Thanks Mark :)

Are there any thoughts to making a mount for canon style Balckmagic cinema camera? Could you use the canon adapter already in place but without the extender because of the size of the sensor?

Was there a reply to this question. I have a 5D Mark iii and a Canon J14ax8.5 lens I would like to try, but need to know if the adapter will work on a full frame sensor camera.
