Hearing Alanis Morissette, who is a great singer, almost struggling to keep up with Sinéad's vocal register and range really makes you realise what a truly gifted singer Sinéad was. She made it sound effortless when, in reality, what she did was extremely complex. Such a loss to the world. 💔

I'd say it was a great attempt for having little time to prepare, but I wouldn't say it was a struggle. Their registers were very similar. Judging from their styles back then, it's obvious Alanis was heavily influenced by Sinead's first album. We all get a little deeper with age.

My thoughts too - for sure singing this song favors being 23 and high. However, my first musician’s instinct recognized that the song presented Alanis with key stress. Or, I think it was more of an intellectual problem (which key to singe in - how to navigate). I am sure, if Alanis had more time to navigate - she has the chops to cover all day all night.

Alanis still looks and sounds AMAZING….big fan of hers since “Jagged….” but, with love and the greatest respect, she’s out of her depth here…. this song proves how completely and utterly unique, talented, peerless and ahead of her time Sinead was. She could sing this effortlessly and I’ll wager even the highest paid and most adored superstars of today could never do it justice.

Where were all these people talking about the greatness of SInead when the world was treating her like shit? How many wrote to her and told her how much her music filled their life. The saddest part of Sinead, which she was very good putting into song, was that she felt alone. She was a voice in music that only comes along generationally or more. All she wanted was to put love into the world through song and get some back. RIP Barrd! I think the general consensus is- Alanis did a great attempt here. The biggest issue is the fact that she was just coming off a full show herself, and, being nearly 50 clearly doesn’t have as high of a range as sinead in her early 20s. I wholeheartedly believe though that alanis even 10 years ago would have had an almost flawless rendition simply due to her voice being higher, therefore this not being as much of a struggle

It was without warming up and immediately after getting on stage without fine-tuning of the sound which is what all opening songs are for. Whenever musicians get on the stage and start playing you can watch them giving hand signals to the guy at the Mixer. Despite the best preparation, the final sound is always created when playing. You can see Alanis singing very loud, which means that she obviously doesn't hear that well at the beginning. It gets better later when she doesn't have to scream like that. You can see Sinead doing it at 0:14 in this video: ua-cam.com/video/XXee0_wJeNw/v-deo.html - it means "vocal sound UP!". And you can be shure they had a soundcheck before.
