Just my little trial and error moment....

@@VivoVintageDesigns What I still have trouble with, especially on the 8x11 size paper, but on smaller too, is that it ends up fringy and fingers on the end instead of being able to close it into a V. I just feel like that’s nearly impossible given the mutable condition of ink

@@77clgreen hi cheryl. Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you're inspired! Alcohol ink is a lot of fun because you never know how they will behave. I'm sure you will enjoy it very much.😊

You should be using the matte side of the photo paper, not the glossy side. Also be sure to use 91 - 99% isopropyl alcohol. Give that try and let me know how it goes.
I love your video. I’ve had success with your process. Question: Any tips to keep the alcohol ink controlled when you pour on the paper? Mine wants to pour out too much even if I go very slow. It tends to spread too wide before I get it dried.
Thank you so much. That might depend on the brand of ink you are using. You can purchase needle nose applicator bottles and transfer the ink. They really help dispense the ink easier.
lovely exquisite work Jeanette, just a quick one. regarding the hair blower Conair, what kwatts is it please? i only ever see ones over 500kw. and wonder it they are too hot for yupo and alcohol inks.
Hi Nix. It's 500 watts and has a cool, low and high setting. It's linked in the description box below the video. Click on "show more " or the arrow pointing down and it will expand.
Hello mam. Hope all well with you. I have just about started practicing alchohol inks. I saw your video. Mesmerizing. Just wanted to ask you everytime you used alchohol to blow up the petal, it would not spread, how is that managed.
It sounds like too much power. You might want to try the lowest setting or holding the dryer farther away from the ink, if you are already using the lowest setting. Hope this helps. 😊
Hi I love your channel, thank you for sharing! Could I use canvas to create these and also am I able to use a blow dryer w a diffuser instead of buying the revlon dryer? Thank you for your help, can’t wait to get started! 💜
Hi Lisa. You can use canvas as long as you seal it first. I like Kilz2, which is a water-based primer. You can use any hair dryer as long as it has a low setting, but I find most are too strong. You will have to use it at a good distance to simply dry the ink without blowing it around.
Such a lovely flower! I’d like to know what you’re doing your painting on? It looks like a piece of kitchen paper, but wouldn’t the ink go through & stain your table underneath?
Thank you. Yes it's a paper towel and the ink will go through it, but is really there just to absorb the excess ink. What you don't see is that I have contact paper adhered to the desk I'm working on so that the ink will not ruin the surface. I can easily wipe the ink off of the low tack contact paper. I learned that little trick the hard way
I just got my inks today and realized that I need a small bottle with the needle-like dropper. What’s that called and where can I find one, please? Thank you! Your work is lovely!
I’ve just read that you don’t use the shiny side of the photo paper! Is this right? It seems odd. I thought the shiny side would help the ink spread nicely. I’m confused. I haven’t started using inks yet, that’s why this video is so helpful. Would appreciate your advice please. Many thanks x
@marianreader817 the glossy side of photo paper is designed to absorb ink when a photo is printed on it. Therefore, if you use ai on the glossy side, the ink is absorbed and does not flow freely...it doesn't move. The matte side of photo paper is designed to not allow the ink printed on the front to bleed through. Therefore, the alcohol inks flow freely on the matte side. Hope this helps you understand.
Hi, Jeanette, this is Dolores A-Gain, I purchased a Epoxy Resin dye kit of assorted colors from Amazon featured as Alcohol Ink. Having a hard time blowing into shapes I want and so googled to see if there is a difference between that an regular alcohol in. I've used on glass and bathroom tile having a high gloss finish, used a ranger blower, a straw, air can and hair blower on low. The epoxy resin separates and runs as soon as it hits the surface. Can you recommend a medium I can use because I really don't want to discard this package.
I've never used resin dye. I use Ranger and Pinata alcohol ink and love them both. I suppose you can use what you have with resin and make coasters or trays, (I've done both) but you'd have to purchase more supplied, in which case, you'd be better off just buying the brands of alcohol ink I just mentioned. Btw...when I made coasters with resin, I used the alcohol inks I have to add color to the resin.
When using a tile instead of paper my ink seems to run quickly before I can get it dry. Is there a trick to getting it dry quicker so it giant run so much?
Try using less ink and alcohol. I find that the inks flow more so than on photo paper and being that the surface is so much smaller, using less product may help you.
This is soooooo gorgeous. I’ve recently treated myself to some alcohol inks but as soon as I put a drop on the paper it starts to spread and by the time I grab the hairdryer on which I’ve even put the diffuser, it spreads out even more😫. What am I doing wrong? I was looking forward to creating an amazing flower to make into a birthday card for a friend. At the moment I’ve got all the gear but no idea!! HELP !!! X
No need for a diffuser. Hopefully you have a dryer with setting that is not too strong. Use it on low and only warm or cool. Try using less ink and if need be, keep the dryer on so you can grab it as soon as you drop your ink. If your dryer is too strong, use it from a farther distance. Give these things a try and let me know if it helps.
Don't worry, I do the exact same thing, and I feel like I need one on one teaching or i''ll never get it right---I guess all we can do is keep trying and realize that everyone has their own way of doing things
Beautiful work! I've been playing around with some photo paper but once the ink dries it doesn't spread when you add more ink. Are you just using the alcohol or are you using a blending solution?
I'm using the back side (matte side not the glossy side) of kirkland photo paper with 91-99% alcohol. If you use the shiny side, the ink is absorbed and wont move. Could that be the problem? Also, not all photo paper works for ai.

Thank you so much@@VivoVintageDesigns
Do you use the glossy side of the photo paper or the backside?
I use the back side of kirkland photo paper.
Beautifully done! What brand of alcohol ink do you use?
Thank you! I use ranger or pinata
What is this Made on. Like is thus a tile or paper or?
It's photo paper
Beautiful work! I've been playing around with some photo paper but once the ink dries it doesn't spread when you add more ink. Are you just using the alcohol or are you using a blending solution?
I'm using the back side (matte side not the glossy side) of kirkland photo paper with 91-99% alcohol. If you use the shiny side, the ink is absorbed and wont move. Could that be the problem? Also, not all photo paper works for ai.
@@VivoVintageDesigns I've tried both sides. Guess Kodiac paper doesn't work. Lol!
Try the Kirkland brand. Works very well. Good luck!😊
How can you persevere this do you use a varnish
I use a couple of coats of kamar varnish and then a couple of kamar uv protection. After that, I sometimes resin as well.
one more quickie: what size is the photo paper you used here? Do you cut the larger paper down? TY!
The original sheet, prior to cutting into quarters was 8.5x11"
Do we have to seal these paintings ?
@bennydsa2292 you should seal alcohol ink painting with kamar varnish and then kamar uv protection so they are protected and fade less.
