Absolute perfect casting. He's to gracious about his performance he really was my favourite character until he died, simply fantastic. He is exactly what I imagine when I think of how a king was a few hundred years ago.
He was the most realistic king in the whole series!
Yes he was my favorite too!! 😁
@María García Just an unbelievable performance. Still my favourite character aside from Tywin.
@@ATReade he really was my favorite King on the show. Mark is an amazing actor truly, I you can tell he genuinely loved the role which makes it that much better. And yes Tywin is good but my favorite Lannister is Tyrion. Charles Dance as an actor did a phenomenal job as Tywin tho and he had some of the most memorable lines in the series.
"To drink, f^ck and shit to the early grave",Bobby B if just you stay alive
Him and Stannis are the best castings in the whole series.
Charles Dance ? Peter Dinklage ? Lena Headey ? Aidan Gillen ?
As well as Charles Dance
Charles Dance??? Sean Bean???
Stannis SUCKED. So fucking boring
The hound is the best
Amazing how natural he seems as King Robert, yet is very different when you hear him here. Impressive acting. But more so, he was so convincing his humor had me cracking up during the first season. Never more so than when he demanded the joust begin while predicting he may not make it to a restroom.
BOW BEFORE YOUR KING, BOW YA SHITS
“An inspiring sight for the people”
He did a great job playing King Robert, just what I pictured when I read the books
My favorite scene in the whole show was when Robert, Jamie, and barreston were telling war stories.
He was the best king in the series.
He just didn't want to be.
The king in the north
Yup, that's why Jon would've been a perfect king as well
that's not a very high bar
@@TheHappyUruk I mean when talking about Westeros it kinda is actually.
He couldn’t have been. A fierce fighter, bold and strong, but no politician.
And of course deeply wounded over Lyanna. Drinking and whoring was his attempt to sway himself from suicide, let alone ruling over a continent.
such a small role made epic by a legend ...Robert Baratheon on war stories" Mine was some Tarly boy at the Battle of Summerhall. My horse took an arrow so I was on foot, slogging through the mud. He came running at me, the dumb high-born lad, thinking he could end the rebellion with a single swing of his sword. I knocked him down with the hammer. Gods, I was strong then. Caved in his breastplate. Probably shattered every rib he had. Stood over him, hammer in the air. Right before I brought it down he shouted, "Wait! Wait"..They never tell you how they all shit themselves. They don't put that part in the songs".
They never tell you how they all shit themselves.
Such an underrated actor. What he turned into and brought out of Robert Baratheon was so mesmerizing to watch and see, he totally embodied the character and truly brought him to life. A larger then life King that literally draws the attention of the entire room with his presence. He surprisingly made him very charismatic as well but for the better, ferocious at times, funny, humble in knowing how to laugh or make fun of himself, just a larger then life persona. Was one of my favorite characters from the start and would love a prequel show on just Robert The Usurper and his rise and seeing what a great warrior he was. That buddy cop duo with him and Ned Stark during the rebellion era would be great. I was sad when he died, but shows what a great actor Mark is to make people love the character so fast with so little screen time in just 1 season. I mean this is the man who played Fred Flintstone. What range!
Crazy that I grew up with watching him in Still Standing. It took me few episodes to realize that’s the same guy. Amazing
His accent makes him unrecognizable. His comedic delivery when he fakes the American accent in still standing is absolutely incredible. That has to be one of the best American accents ever.
Mark Addy was really great as Robert Baratheon. He's been great in everything I've seen actually. I wish he would do more. I would watch anything with his name on it.
Its ironic that Robert was so hateful of the Targaryens when his grandmother was one, as well as the founder of House Baratheon being Aegon the Conqueror's bastard brother. Mark Addy was perfect casting, even if he was a bit short for the part
I had Brian Blessed in mind when I read the book but Addy did a great job.
Daenerys' Alive!
Brian Blessed is too crazy to be Robert imo but imagine him as Aegon IV. He’d be perfect
Wasn’t he santa in gumball?
I did not realize after all these years this was the same man that played King Robert Baratheon. He nailed that role.
Had no idea he was in the time machine. Blew my mind.
his wife is a lannister, her brother jaime, is also a lannister
His squire, Lancel, is also a Lannister. You might say, he's surrounded by Lannisters.
@@azh698poor guy. Everywhere he looks he sees their blonde hair and smug faces 😔
The first time I saw Mark Addy, it was in a sitcom called Still Standing where he co-starred with Jami Gertz. Addy played an Average Joe working class guy with an American accent that completely had me fooled - I hadn't seen any other projects that he was in. Big difference from King Robert.
Great interview loved him in game of thrones
I didn’t even recognize him without his beard
It’s not right.
Neither was killing him.
he has a great voice
I’m so obsessed with GOT that his normal speaking voice is throwing me off. I have the urge to throw a beard on him and make him say “bow to your king!!!”
Nikolaj/Jamie is amazing too, his real life accent vs Jamie's is crazy.
He needs to be in another high quality medieval show or movie. He’s so good as King Robert, and honestly everything would’ve been peachy if he hadn’t died.
"I've been sitting here for days"
Mark also played Fred Flintstone in The Flintstone 2 Vivia Rock Vegas you could tell he looks perfect to play Fred Flintstone.
He has the most kingly laugh
Perfect casting
Bobby B,Tyrion,Bron,Tormund,Barristan, Hound,Davos,Beric,Toros,Podrick Gendry,Jon,Dollorus Edd and Oberyn in night out in Dorne
Holy shit it's Bill Miller's twin brother. The producers of Still Standing should've made an episode that mimicked the movie The Parent Trap. Mark, ahh Bill, would've been perfect for the role
all hail king robert
Bill Miller!
Bobby B!!! Gods, we were strong then!!
Half the time it's like they're speaking 2 different languages simultaneously
He is Robert?
Jee man lol
Did he ever get that breastplate stretcher?
Crap this is so weird. Having no facial hair is freaking me out. :D
A good man but a terrible king
Why do ppl keep saying he was a terrible king?? His entire reign was full of peace and prosperity.
@@coldhands2802 Because the reason it was prosperous was because of Jon Arryn, he admitted he is a terrible king and says so many times he wasn't supposed to be king it's not in his nature he is a soldier because he does everything every lord's men do drink and fuck
He has a terrible man. Xd and a terrible king. A great warrior yes. Nothing more
Who TF is that and why are they pretending he's Robert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think his casting was shit. The physical size of these characters is part of their mystique and part of them, for that matter. He should have been played by a much larger man.
It is meant to be Robert at the end of his life though, I think it fits that's he's a smaller shell of his younger self.
@@coh2conscript851 That is unfortunate, as in the books both Eddard and Robert are roughly middle-aged. I think ageing everybody for the TV show was a mistake.
Eh, it’s an adaptation
@@PHAToregon You're right. Prior to the end of season 4, there were some things I thought the show did better or at least the alterations made still fit with ASoIaF. Beginning with The Mountain vs The Red Viper the show went to absolute shite.
@@SerialChiller1000 in the books Robert and Ned are around 35
