Great video! Lots of the small things that no other reviews look at. I used the CX 48" for two years as a desktop monitor and definitely would have preferred the smaller size, but I had mine at 1m viewing distance with 125% scaling. I also wanted to use the bottom 2/3rds of the screen more where the top ended up being less used except for large code windows. These would be perfect if they could make them just a bit smaller still, like 38".
It's a bit unfortunate that the biggest improvement over the C1 is the smaller size, yet it also comes with a big step up in price. Looks like LG realized they can make more money with smaller displays.
Nope, the 42inch is more costly to make for them. When they cut 42 inches screen into the motherglass, they hand up with even more waste than with the 48 inch. This is the same reason why the 48 was more expensive than the 55 inch.

Deciding on C1 48/C2 42 - Great Video/Just Subbed! One Question: 1:13 I see you disabled the "TPC" which you say is connected to ABSL. Doing some research, I'm finding some are saying ABL/ASBL is hard-coded in the TV and can NOT be turned off. While the TPC (Temporal Peak Luminance Control) which you disabled is unrelated to the ABL (Auto Brightness Limiter). So are you finding that the TV (Both the 48/42) especially with PC use no longer will auto dim/lower the brightness e.g. while actively working on a white colored Word Doc?
I disabled both TPC and GSR in the service menu. And this only addresses ASBL, which is the dimming due to static tasks/low screen activity. This does not affect ABL, which is dimming from using large white/bright images across the entire screen (aka high power usage). As you mentioned, ABL cannot be turned off.
Great video. I just subscribed. I was wondering if there's a Samsung equivalent that you would recommend or would you just say LG is a better route. Also do you mind sharing the software you use to be able to split your screens so efficiently? Thank you!

Building my own custom desk, 30" depth seems like a good sweet spot - I'm impatiently waiting to see reviews of the upcoming release Samsung The Frame 2022, as it has a matte finish... hoping for the best
I appreciate these detailed and thoughtful reviews - although I have gone a different way. I've been using a 75-inch 4k Planar professional monitor as my work environment. It has the ability to display 4 video sources at once (in a 2x2 quadrant), thus I output 2 laptops -> 4 video sources. Each quadrant displays at 1920x1080 60hz (although the monitor supports 4k in a single quadrant). I find it impressive that even in this mode, I can individually address brightness, sharpness, etc for a _single_ quadrant (and not just for the entire screen). The size of the monitor does mean that I set a little further away, but it is still quite manageable. I suffer zero eye strain at the end of the day (and the monitor is mounted to a standing desk so it rises/falls as I lower/raise the desk height). Honestly, the biggest issue I have right now is where to place the camera (for zoom/videoconf mtgs).
I imagine you have to sit quite far away. The pixel density of 4K at 75 inches is horrendous. Anything less than 80ppi is terrible at a normal distance.
@@ajmatt You'd think, but that has not been my experience, and honestly I struggle to explain it. For one, this is straight business-use, no gaming, and nothing art/graphic-related (e.g. no photoshop or anything like that). It is 33 inches from the front of the monitor to the back-edge of my desk, so let's say, my eyes are ~36-38 inches away from the monitor. And remember that I'm not running a single desktop at 4k - I'm running 4 _concurrent_ (and separate) desktops, all at HDMI/1080 resolution. So - is it better to think of this as 1920x1080 times 4? E.g. 7680x4320 ? That doesn't seem right, but I'm not sure how else or better to quantify. www.planar.com/media/440837/planar-qe7550_specsheet-discontinued.pdf
@@GregNyce I see. I was referring to the text sharpness at such low ppi. On the contrary the pixel density would not be that much of an issue if you were doing the things you mentioned, i.e gaming, art/graphic related work. For example, I sit at ~60cm from my 1440p ultrawide and I would say that it is just fine for my mostly text heavy work and gaming. I tried sitting 1m away from the display surface and I could still make out that the text was not sharp enough. Have you tried smaller 4K displays? Pretty certain you will find a huge difference. A few monitors offer screen split with different inputs (i.e tile into 4 1080p displays).
Great video! Super useful details on how to get this set up working, thanks for that! Did you have to add the Ergotron HX Heavy-Duty Tilt Pivot to get your monitor to tilt the way you wanted it to? Also, what size & thickness were the washers that you had to add? They didn’t happen to come with the Vivo adapter did they?
Hey man. Great video! I was wondering how you go into service mode with the regular remote? I've read online that in order to do this you need to have a special remote to access the menu to turn off the dimming?
I have watched this video probably 10 times now and continue to wonder, would you prefer the C2 48” vs the 42”? Being in architectural design, I use a mix productivity and graphics but I really like/need the screen real estate. My only question is how noticeable will the difference be from the pixel density standpoint (keeping in mind I’m currently using the LG34 Ultrawide). Thanks for this video!
Can you explain more in details how you bring up the service menu by using the magic remote control shown here 1:10 ? I need desperately to set off the auto dimming. It's driving me crazy. Thanks!
Ah someone with the same desktop speakers I'm using... can't beat this setup...I'm taking delivery of the LG tomorrow. I'm going with a VESA stand for more adjustment capabilities.

@@HelloDavid Thanks really appreciate the follow-up!
What did you decide?
What is the tan ottoman footrest that David uses? it appears to be much more comfy than any that I am seeing while searching for one.
What kind of mount you using? Is it Vesa? And if it’s how do you did it ?
Awesome video! Where can I purchase a desk like yours? I ask as it's aesthetically appealing, and it seems to have generous space.
Amazing video, just a question. Why you didn't choose the PG48UQ ?
Great video. I just subscribed. I was wondering if there's a Samsung equivalent that you would recommend or would you just say LG is a better route. Also do you mind sharing the software you use to be able to split your screens so efficiently? Thank you!
Hey David, may I know what software you use for spliting tabs? TIA! (Ps. I just remembered this video from 2 years ago!!! )
Excellent review. How high can the ergotron arm bring the lg? Thx!
Got a lg c1 48 inch display model for $600. Can't beat that. What is the software you are using to so cleanly divide your tabs though?

Nice review as always @HelloDavid , where can I get the lamp stand on the Monitor Arm?
Is there a cheapo-version of Ergotron HX Monitor Arm that could handle 40 inch panel?
Thanks for the video. I am leaning towards lg c2 42" for my use (30% coding, 40% photo-video editing, 20% entertainment, 10% movies). A quick question, I've watched 10s of youtube videos and read 10s of Reddit posts. But couldn't find that by hook or crook (external software, service remote etc)
can LG C2 42" do a split screen? For example, Hook up a laptop and MacBook pro to different HDMI and display at the same time.
What's the name of your desk, bro? Love your setup
Lack of height adjustment is a deal breaker. Thanks for the info
48" C1 OLED are discounted to $750 include shipping... soo tempting to use as monitor on my PC
Hi, this C2 full name is LG OLED42C26LB ? Just want make sure I will buy this one you have in this video
A few monitors offer screen split with different inputs (i.e tile into 4 1080p displays).
i found that a 40" 5k2k is the best combination for my productivity. so i went for the Lenovo P40w-20 and i absolutely love it!
Next on my to buy list
got this for $1k at best buy as my new "monitor". im not dissapointed so far, just wish the auto dimming on white screens wasnt so apparent.
Did you ever figure out the size of the washers? I'm on the same boat.
What desk is that, and do you have any recommendations
David, did you only disable TPC or also GSR in service mode?
Cool speakers, what model are they
Could you please make a video about your setup ?
Working on it!
42" i big enough ... right on cusp of being too big
42 inch c3 is best.
you should review the g9
How is he splitting the screen like that? 4:37

I'm going with a VESA stand for more adjustment capabilities.
thanks for the great videos. Do you still suggesting it for coders? I spent much time looking at fonts, and I would love for a OLED TV for my setup
Great video, can you link the spacers purchased for the TV?
What worries me is the auto dimming.
Yes, you can turn it off, but it probably voids the warranty.
Turn it back on and they won’t know.
