Great tips! You just saved me from buying a 4k OLED TV to use as a monitor. 😅 Unfortunately, I use a Macbook Pro for work, so sounds like this setup won't be ideal for me. Thanks for the tips though! 🙇
That LGTV companion is gonna be super useful. Also I didn’t realize you could set shortcuts on the remote like that. Super handy!
Thank you for the tips! I have 2 questions do you think these would apply to lg c2 or should i go with c1 or cx?
Second q is can i run the tv with lower resolution if i wanted to. Cause i have a 3070 and i wanna know if i can play at 1080p without problems?
Thanks
@@PurpleSpiritFoxFire yes, it def works with C2s. And you can play 1080, but why waste horsepower? Go 2k resolution minimum! At 1080, it def won’t look as good - just played new world at default 1080p and when I changed it to 4k, night and day
@@Ahnestly Appreciate you putting time to answer. Thanks man.
my mama would give me the chancla for sitting that close to the tv. Dunno if i should do this i feel the chancla incoming
Dude. I read this to my wife the other day and we were both laughing our asses off. Thank you for making our day!!
🤣
No not the chancla ow
🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
One of the most useful UA-cam videos I have watched recently. Thanks for all the great tips!
I use a Caldigit box that acts like a dock for my Macbook Pro. It has a Display Port on the back. I then bought a high quality cable that is Display Port at the source, and HDMI at the screen. By one that supports HDMI 2.1 and 48Gbps. That worked like a champ!
Also, great info in this video. Thank you! Loved the hard-coded numbers for switching between inputs.
I just got an LG C2, and I have watched about 50 videos before this one, and this has by far the best information on using it as a Monitor that I have seen on youtube. Thank you so much for this information! Cheers
Dudeeee thanks for the kind words! So glad it helped!!!
Just got a LG Oled TV, I came back to this bookmarked video and rewatched on the quick switch inputs and booting up faster tweaks! Highly appreciate this! :)
hope you have a great experience, im planning on getting one myself and have this video on "will need later" playlist
All great tips and tricks! Got all the software installed and now it is absolutely more like a real monitor. Thanks for a great video :)
Nice!! Glad it helped!!
A great hint to get almost retina like text on a Mac, use a USB-C to HDMI cable and set the resolution to 3008x1692, sure it's a little larger than normal, but much clearer. BTW, Activity Monitor says the resolution is 6016x3384 (same resolution as the XDR) but scaled.
And if you want to connect your mac to the tv from 3m/10ft distance, do you know what a good resolution is for that distance?
Doing gods work 🫡
Stumbled across your video and it definitely helped! Keep up the good work.
This is gonna be sooooo useful for when the qd-oleds from lg release next year. You are the man!
Thanks a bunch for the video. From everything online you are the only one mentioning the LGTV Companion. Super Much Appreciated!!! Ordered mine a few hours ago 😁!
Nice!! Glad it helped you!!!
Very nice review and very good tips. I was looking for the answer to some questions other reviewers not covering. Im considering LG c2 for my future new PC setup. subbed
the quick switch tip for inputs is awesome - thanks man!
Addendum... switching to "PC input" actually made a *considerable* difference! It was especially noticeable on music writing software like Sibelius... So thank you again! Now it will be even easier to work and then quickly go to wasting time on my PS5!
Just bought a LG C3 48" today as a computer monitor, and I will say I love it... I got a swivel mount coming with install this upcoming week to watch it in bed at night as well... honestly your video really helped my decision making... thank you!
When your graphics card kicks in does it change the color of the TV as if it's going into a different color mode? I have an old Sony that does that and have considered getting the c3. How do fonts look on it?
Ouh man this video is awesome. Bought a lg oled a weaks ago and i am very impessed to use it as a monitor on my pc. with this settings you show here its even a better xperience 🤩👍
Thanks, Ahnestly, for the valuable tips!...Just purchased a 55" Sony TV as a PC monitor and will be using a monitor arm on a sit/stand electric desk...
Thanks for the video. Being an avid fan of LG OLEDS (Have one in my living room) I was planning to buy the smaller C2 as a monitor. Seeing the challenges you have you def. saved me a lot of headache.
Thank you for this video. Switching the HDMI input mode to PC fixed a massive mouse pointer lag that I was experiencing when connecting my MacBook to my LG 43" TV. Subscribed.
dude!! Happy I could help!!
Super helpful! Love your videos. I can't believe that this video was made by you because I watch all of your videos regularly and this isn't really something that I thought you would make a video on. On top of that, I had been looking for this video forever to figure out how to optimize my LG C2 even before I got it, and it didn't really exist until you made it. Kinda a long rant, but I just thought it was odd. Thanks again!
Hahaha I started with tech and still love it. On occasion I’ll make some tech related videos!
Ahh, that explains it. That'd be super cool to see more of these! Keep up the good work, I'll keep watching whatever you put out!
You have by far the best channel name I've ever seen. Love it!
the most helpful tips i have ever seen, thanks man
Thank you for these advices! I will defenetly use lot of them. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!!
enjoyed your video! really informative and helpful! I have not yet owned a C2 yet but im likely gonna pull the trigger on it on the upcoming black friday! cant wati!
Thanks for this informative video. Just picked up a C2 42” and loving it!
awesome content as usual, thanks for the tips and tricks mr ahn!
Thanks for the kind words!!!
Thks for the important info , all the information needed to use a oled as PC Monitor. Very nice!
Amazing video! I love the tips and suggestions. Thanks!
Im looking to pick up a C2 and i didnt even know i needed this. Thanks man
Thanks for this video ! I just bought an LG Flex which is basically a C2 with flex and somme tweaks, and your tips worked perfectly !
SICKKK!! Hope you love it!
Super informative video much appreciated my friend!!!
Hey man nice tips for helping out those getting started with LG OLEDs. Just wanted to mention something that took me months to learn for the tip of turning screen off. When you use the TV with game mode (in a PC or Console) the quick settings menu is replaced by a gaming mode settings and you have no access to the turn off screen option anymore. To get it back AND keep the game mode on, you have to go to Settings > All Settings > General > Game Optimizer > Game Dashboard and turn it off. And if you need to go back to the game dashboard, just add a quick settings shortcut for it (has the icon of a gamepad) Now you have the best of both worlds! :)
Hey dude, thanks for the awesome tips. Helped me set my 42 inch c3 up for PC gaming really well. Keep up the great content.
woot woot! Glad it helped!
Thank you man. Your tips are to the point compared to other youtubers who just throw words. Good content.
Thank you!! Appreciate it!
Awesome tips and tricks. I bought a LG C2 42", which I'm using now. I got around the ABL by setting HDMI input to PC and choose either the isf modes and/or game mode.
Under there the dark isf mode is set to 63 OLED pixel brightness, contrast to 80, gamma to BT.1886, color dept under Color to 55 and sharpness to 0, which also helps in some games.
light isf is set to 93 OLED pixel brightness, contrast to 80, gamma to 2.2, color dept to 55 and sharpness to 0.
This way, you still have your warrenty. I hope it works for you too.
Appreciated 🎉😊
Pls I wanna confirm, how does 1080p gaming look on the monitor?
@@umunnacharles5372 I have an old Xbox One and it works fine on the monitor. Definitely playable 👍🙂
How is the LG C2 holding up for you after a year of usage? I am considering this exact model as a new monitor.
@@user-ru8wn6cs9h thank you for asking. So I still use the above settings. They are very good for my eyes as I'm sitting around an 80 cm from the screen. I have no burn in and I'm using it for when I work from home, in the evening just browsing and develop, gaming both on PC and Xbox plus also using it as a TV some times.
All in all very happy with it. I really can't go back to normal monitor after having this TV with glossy screen.
Today I would probably take the LG C3 instead of C2...just because technology gets better and it is newer 🙂But other than that, I can highly recommed it.
I’m glad I found your channel through this video. This video was excellent. For real. Subscribed.
Thank you!! I don’t do as much tech content as I used to but I try to sprinkle it in throughout!
@@Ahnestly hell yeah dude keep it up
Very useful tips, big thank you!
For the longest time, i have always had a monitor and a tv linked to my pc. Having those benefits have been awesome
Excellent video my dude, I'm teetering on getting a 42 C2, but some of these tip will be used on my living room LG. Thank you :)
This is the first YT video I've watched on my LG C2. Gotta say you look incredible haha. Great studio set-up and shot
LOL I remember going full screen on one of my video's once...I'm still traumatized 😂
That LG Companion app is an OLED saver!!! Thanks so much.
A very detailed presentation. I am not one for always clicking the Thumbs Up (Like) buttons, but you are very knowledgeable and present your information in a logical, easy to understand (common sense) approach. Thank you for a great informational video.
Woah! This means a lot! Thank you so much for the kind words and moreso for taking the time to do something you don't normally do for a stranger like me!!
thanks for the video i learn alot of thins on my lg tv
You are the man. Thanks for the great video 🙂
Thank you so much for all the useful tips mate, the quick access tip @11:40 alone deserves more than one thumb up, also the recommended/referenced viewing distance at the beginning of the video immediately solved my nauseous feeling, just started using my C2 42" today and currently waiting for my HX arm to arrive, I am so glad I found your video here, THE best video about using LG OLED TV as monitor advice out there, thanks again!
Really glad it helped!! It’s always a huge relief and really satisfying when you know your work is helping people so appreciate the feedback!
I've had my 42" C2 for a little while now. Love the picture. I just finished building my new PC, however, I can't get it to display any picture at all on the C2. It's as if no input is even plugged in. Everything turns on and the fans and RGB on the case, GPU, RAM, and cooler all work fine. Looks great, but no display! I've been trouble shooting for a week now to no avail. I've popped the CMOS and drained the power, tried booting from the integrated graphics, did bios flashback again on the Z690 for 13th gen, all kinds of stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have a single other monitor to test the new build with to see if it will post. My old monitor only has a DVI connection and I don't have a converter.
I've heard that some displays won't first post on certain 4k monitors or TVs, and you first need to set up windows, the drivers, and the resolution first. I have no idea why that would be, as it sort of defeats the purpose of using it as a monitor, but I'm hoping I can find a solution soon. I have thousands of dollars worth of stuff just sitting, waiting to be used...every day I can't get it working I start sweating more and more lol
Couple tips: make sure you’re plugged into the graphics card and NOT the motherboard video out. get another 2.1 hdmi cable - I’ve had a ton of cable issues over everything else
@@Ahnestly Thanks. The 2.1 cable works on other devices. What I just discovered is that the system posts when I finally plugged it into a different TV. My guess is that, for some reason, the C2 wants the system to already be set up with windows, drivers, etc before displaying a picture. A week of useless troubleshooting just to have everything work on a different display. Hoping I don't run into problems with the C2 once I get everything set up on my other display.
So what I noticed is that different cables cause different issues. I bought some fancy DisplayPort cable one time and it would never show the display until after the bios screen had passed. Then I use some cheapo plane Jane dp cable, and it showed up right away. It might be worth trying out a different hdmi 2.1 cable!
thanks for that!! Nice tips
u helped with the desk depth , ty
1. To see the basic potential of the OLED display, set the computer to the resolution of the TV panel (normally 3840x2160).
2. Picture modes other than Vivid/Standard such as Filmmaker, are likely to be much more neutral technically (check review settings at rtings, techradar etc.)
3. Picture > Advanced settings > Clarity > Adjust Sharpness > set to 0 (out of 50). Once (1) and (2) were dialled in, this aspect became more visible.
4. For Linux Gnome or Windows users, if under settings for Display > Scale you find yourself torn between two values, then try in addition Accessibility > text size.
5. From rtings (for C2) "For an optimal PC .... experience and proper chroma 4:4:4 support, it's important to set the input icon to 'PC' for the HDMI port you are using." Input button > Home Dashboard > Edit Inputs > click on the HDMI port icon to the side of the desired input. I'm not a gamer so I haven't used the Game Optimizer settings.
Point 3 updated and point 4 added.
For gaming what mode should I use?
@@CJ-wr7iz Sorry I'm not a gamer, but I've added a related point 5.
Point 3 update after more experience.
Excellent video! Strongly considering an LG C3 purchase so this was very helpful. Thanks!
Why not last year LG C2 OLED for reasonable price ?
There are non to buy now, sold out
thank you man, its really useful
Absolutely brilliant video!
Hey I appreciate the kind words!!!
this is so helpful! Thanks
Stumbled across this video but my dude, this is superb content.
Very helpful thanks
Damn bro this is packed with useful info. What a legend
Thank you for the kind words!!!
Awesome video. Screen Off is just what I was looking for
Very helpful. Thank you.
Wow dude, you’ve got a LOT of gear behind you!
Great vid. I’m a new sub.
Thanks for the sub!!! Appreciate ya!
Awesome! Lots of great tricks!
Switching the input to PC mode gives you the opportunity to use the Chroma RGB 4:4:4 120Hz in 4k + reducing the input delay, which greatly, very much affects the positive experience of use. Absolutely must do.
Does the TV keep the PC mode once set up also when unplugging the PC? I ask since I want to use it with a notebook and don't see myself toggle this setting on every time I plug my Notebook into the TV. Thanks for the Help 😉
@@Angeloi89 No. PC mode is tied to a port HDMI. I have a PC mode with a PC, and in the Netflix application, for example, some other.
I was surprised that this (the fact that mouse lag is usually significant) was not mentioned. I bought a Samsung Odessey 55. Mouse lag is significant. In game mode it's much better but then the colours are completely, weirdly over-saturated. (Sending it back)
Great video great tips dude.
This is awesome! it worked! :) LG 48CX on my Mac no more dimming!! hahaha and of course, I can turn it back ON if I want. Thanks for the tip!
This is one of the best explanation video I’ve seen. Clear, honest and easy tips.
Thanks for the tips
Excellent video! thanks
I’m not sure if someone has mentioned it till now. But 4k@120hz and 10bit color works with all m1 and above macs using a specific usb c to hdmi adapter and firmware. You need to have a cable matters 8k usb c to hdmi2.1 adapter with vmm7100 chip. Using this also fixes the issue with the input type switching when disconnected. I have a 42 c3 and 14” m1 works awesome now at 120hz and 10bit.
This was outstanding information. Are the tweaks the same for the newer LG C2 42" 2022 version? Thank you!
Good video, going to have to see if I can find the Sony equivalents to your LG tips.
this is SO good, more informative than the videos from million sub youtubers
And unlike million sub channels…I respond back :)
Thank you so much for the kind words. Means a lot!!!
Thanks very useful ☺️
Hi - Nice video, thank you.
I had a question about productivity workflow when using an OLED. I recently switched from 3 IPS 27" monitors to a single screen, using the LG 42" OLED. I absolutely love the additional screen space and the experience when gaming etc is great. I can easily capture HDR footage after changing settings in OBS too. However when loading said HDR footage into DaVinici Resolve (or Adobe) it appears washed out etc. After some googling it would appear that people who use OLED for colour correction etc edit on a separate PC/monitor and pass the HDR content through e.g. a DeckLink capture PCIE card and to the OLED, which will then display it properly.
So I was interested in what your workflow is or if you've run into any issues etc?
I use dual 40" TV (regular 1080p) and it works great. Biggest problem with viewing bigger TVs (50" or more) on desk is the angle you are watching when looking at tv's corners. If you are looking at corner content, you are viewing it at 45 degrees and you have to move your whole body to see it well, which makes it useless.
My viewing distance is about 1 meter, which gives me plenty of desk space for hardware projects.
I'd also recommend turning energy savings off. I've been using mine for over half a year, still love it. I use mine on the hx monitor arm where I put it down for monitor use and since my couch is pretty close to my desk, I then raise it and pull it forward to use as a TV.
good review and tips
Awesome Awesome video.. Extremely useful
Thx! Excellent tips!
I've got mine almost touching the wall i cut down the bottom stand and it still sits there rock solid as the monitor has a natural lean forward so the front frame works perfectly
Excellent excellent excellent 👌 !!! Thank you 🙏
Hey man you were super helpful with this video thank you very much. Seriously. And screw all the trolls with pointless inputs that add no value. Thanks again man!
Hey! Really appreciate that! Thank you so much for the kind words!!
Great video!
JUST bought an LG C2 and love it.
Just to add to the tips: If you're experiencing flickering or screen tearing w/ an OLED LG TV and use GSYNC, it's unfortunately a hardware issue involving changing gamma curves in VRR. The panel can't change gamma curves fast enough if framerates change quickly w/ GSYNC. The only solution is to turn if off.
In the week that I've own mine using it for both work and gaming, it's happened 3 times, curiously only while I was watching YT. I disable it when using the desktop and enable it during games, and from what I've read pairing the LG C2 w/ a 3080 TI makes sure those fast framerate changes don't happen frequently. It's something to consider. Gaming w/o GSYNC isn't a bad experience at all, and assuming you have stable framerates in your system you should be perfectly fine if you can run > 80 FPS regardless.
I run 144 fps.
My main monitor is a 27 inch 1440p ips, you think it's worth it upgrading to a lg c2? I have a 4090 so I was thinking of upgrading monitors since I can drive that resolution and 4k 120 now
@@ashouaxiong1404Absolutely yes. 3080 TI here. Just 4k 60fps is worth it.
I would wait though, I got it at Best Buy for $800 for the 42" version. It's way better than the Neo G7 or Neo G8. Didn't buy them, just saw them at the store and didn't think they were good enough value for the cost.
It should be fixed, Pronto. It's a verified feature, and partly why I bought it. If it's not working correctly, then it should be a top priority to fix and it's bullshit that it's not. I paid for a feature that's broken.
Does gaming at 1080p on the lg c2 still look crisp?
Very helpful.
I've had a 48" LC C1 as my main monitor for about a year now and it's been GREAT. Best display I've ever owned. I won't be going back.
audio and monitors are 1 way journey bro
it indeed was helpful, thanks!!
woot woot!!!
never heard of fancyzones (powertoys) until now, and it's awesome! ty for the tip
Enjoyed your video as you touched some very crucial points which no one else did… like issues with mac.. I am looking to change to a bigger monitor than 32” … either a 40” or 49” ultrawide or OLED TV… primarily office work with one small section used for watching videos. Please suggest
if you've got an m2 pro Mac mini it can do 120 hertz and HDR. I'm using it right now with my c1 and it's amazing. So m2 pro models and later should be good 👍🏾
as a member of the LGTV OLED 4k+ community, I support this message.
awesome video man, saved me from buying for my mac. I'll stick with a normal monitor for now
Very informative.
Thanks! Hope it helped!!
Great Video Thank you Sir
Thank you for the kind words!!
Haha, I used a 55 inch Hisense H9G for my monitor with a Mac mini for over a year now. I notice the Mac mini tends to be a little slower when editing video. Upgrading to Mac Studio for Christmas. For my SetUp I have rolling TV stands with a standing Desk. I think I sit about 3-4 ft away and I love it. I can edit my movies and have a good TV to view video quality
Thank u for advices
Great video! This still applies to the LG C3 42 inch!
Thanks! And yes! Should be for most LG tvs!!
Thanks for this! I have a MB 16", but I had already gotten my LG, so... sigh. Good old Apple, always a love/hate thing with them. The PC input thing was very helpful, though, and still useful if I know I'm not leaving my house for awhile. The quick Input Switching tip was awesome! And I'm too chicken to try and disable Auto-Dimming because of your dire warnings, lol! But I'll eventually do that (and I'll be very careful!)
Oh, at 11:49, you say to "Hold '0' ", but the graphic shows the mute button circled. Not that I'm such an eagle-eye, but just that I had to pause several times, haha!
Anyway, great job, thanks! And if you figure out a way to permanently get rid of that pointer... :)
For disabling the auto-dimming. I have a C3 so I had to enable the hidden menu and do the step mentioned. It works but then I can no longer control brightness from the standard menu and I have to play around with the advance menu and it doesn't seem to play well ... I've just reset it to standard ... disabled "eco mode" and set to PC / gaming mode and it's really not that bad ... I prefer that then having a static high brightness that is pretty annoying to change manually.
You should get this one - LG 48GQ900-B loving it so far. It behaves as a monitor and is a monitor. E.g. it turns on and off like a monitor and has displayport. ;)
Yo, so helpful. Mounting mine to a monitor arm and I would like that shut off feature. Will be disabling ABL. Got my service remote. :)
Looking to enter the Gaming PC world. Three questions, is it possible to use my existing 77in CX utilizing your current steps? I currently have both next gen consoles, media players connected via AVR. Would i have to direct connect to TV or can I connect via AVR via HDMI? What would the minimum configuration requirements be for the gaming pc to run sports games (Madden/2k/etc.) smoothly?
I have a c2 42 and use a custom resolution on it. Basically a 21:9 1600p resolution. This works really well, 5k2k would of course be better, but still it works.
What exactly is it? Thanks
