Great review. I've had this TV for about 3 months now and I do really like it. Two things to be weary of though. First, With 120 hz and VRR enabled, some PS5 titles will cause the TV to flicker when opening the apps and even at random times while playing. It's not a common occurrence, but does happen sometimes. So unless I'm playing a really gorgeous and graphically intensive game like Spiderman, Horizon, etc, I just have it set to 60 hz with VRR off and haven't noticed any differences personally in the games being any less smooth. Completely eliminates the weird flickering. And second, if you plan on playing blu rays on the PS5 with this TV, it's kind of a hassle. With the PS5 on, it locks the screen into game mode, so you can't switch the picture setting to cinema or anything while watching a movie. Most of the time I'll just use the TV apps like Netflix, HBO, etc to watch a movie and I can switch then, but with my PS5 being my only blu ray player, if I want to watch something that I only have a physical disc version of, I'm locked into the game mode. A couple small issues in the grand scheme of things, but stuff to be aware of.

This was one of my choices last year but I went with the 42 C2 due to the cheaper price, 1440p support and more HDMI 2.1 ports. The processing of the Sony looks really impressive but not enough to make up for the previously mentioned 3 setbacks.
Also, Sony only gives you TWO HDMI 2.1 ports, and one of those ports is the e-ARC. Incredibly frustrating for a so-called premium brand like Sony. Meanwhile, the C2 has four 2.1 ports and flawless VRR support out of the box.

Great review, SpawnPoiint. I recently bought a Sony A80K 55 inches TV for my new house entertainment device. (Can't wait, first house!) I would say all the features provided from the TV itself is more or less about every person's preferences. They may have some little or tiny cons in every model, but to me after been surveying so many type of TVs, A80K is my final decision. It has an overall brightness and with dolby vision / HDR features, i guess I'm more than enough satisfied for the product. Great review and comparison. The price is the biggest factor for this TV for sure. My main TV is an LG C2 OLED and I really dislike webOS, so was heavily leaning toward the a90k over the LG offerings but couldn’t justify the price. Today, I managed to pick this up brand new for AU$1596 including tax. The LG C2 is no longer available, and the C3 would have cost AU$2156. I am SO DAMN HYPED! Can’t wait to set it all up. Upgrading from a placeholder 1440p IPS monitor, so I know it’s going to blow me away.
@@jukebox2568 in terms of picture quality, and speaker sound, yeah I’m really stoked. Google’s OS is alright, fairly snappy but does have some annoying moments. My biggest grievance with the a90k is that it’s a Sony, so presumably it would be the perfect TV for a PlayStation 5 Console. A couple of weeks after buying the TV, my PlayStation would stop transmitting sound randomly, and the only fix is to unplug the HDMI cable which is a major annoyance. I’d go so far as to say it’s a deal breaker. And yes, it’s something to do with the TV and the 120hz HDMI mode with a ps5 attached. I don’t have the issue on my living room LG C3 at 120hz, and my PC that is connected to the a90k never drops sound even with 120hz mode enabled. Disappointed to say the least.
@@jukebox2568sorry for the late reply. I would say they are just about as good. LG has some annoying ads in their OS. I would pick the LG regardless of those drawbacks if I could turn back time. The sound issues have improved recently but it’s still annoying.
@@Adri9570 Hey man! I was actually thinking where was it that I should have updated about the TV, I thought it was reddit lol So far I've used the TV for gaming on PS5 and home office and things been really great! I followed HDTVTest channel C2 guide for configuring the C3's picture, but not to the litter though. Picture quality and colors are really superb and will ruin you, can't look at the other TV and monitors anymore, nothing beats it! Unlike previous models, this one can get really bright and you'll have no issues seeing in a bright room. Sound is good imo, but not great. It has a lot of settings to test and that can be tiring. Tested only a little and settled on the standard settings because I didn't like the other options out of the box. I might give it another go in the future and do more testing. Gaming mode is awesome, supports VRR, G-Sync, Free-Sync, ALLM and it is awesome for SDR (tested it with fighting games) and HDR gaming (tested it in COD MW2). I game for long hours and the TV doesn't get that hot. It is well ventilated. It is light weight and I'm planning to desk-mount it. Menus can be confusing at first, but it gets better over time. It has plenty of apps support. When setting up for the first time, I panicked when I saw black lines on the screen and I started to believe I got a faulty one. After looking in the menus I found and used the built-in pixel cleaner feature under the support menu and that did the trick "phew" If you have a C2, then wait if money is a factor in your decision. But if you have an older model or something else, f'ing go for it man! I hope that covered it all, and plz ask me if I missed something.
The Sony's are always amazing. However I can't justify the jump in price between them and the LG Oleds even when comparing the G series to the A95k. Pound for pound value for money I've gotta go LG
@@SpawnPoiint I know it's not 42" but the new G3 is what I am excited to see, all the reports have said it's insane whereas the C3 Vs the C2 is more a refinement
The Asus ROG PG42UQ is what I have and I got it at launch with my RTX 4090 Strix OC/i9-13900KS/64GB DDR5-6400 build early this year. It's the only true 42" 4k120/138oc'd Hz 16:9 OLED monitor with both DP1.4a and HDMI 2.1 ports on the market, not a TV with pseudo monitor like functions (LG C2/C3) and it's cost was pretty steep at $2k CAD. It's a great everyday use OLED monitor for productivity and solid for gaming, but it does have a matte coating rather than being glossy like a TV. It's great during office hour use with plenty of ambient room lighting but it looks noticeable less vibrant at night compared to a C2 for media viewing and HDR gaming (not to mention it's much more expensive). Worst of all: the HDR10 color gamut and tone mapping has been broken on this monitor (even with Windows 11 HDR mode and the calibration tool), and the 48" version is the same. It's a problem directly at the firmware level that requires patching (V033 being the latest with no update since the end of November 2022). It's very well documented online if you look it up - you'll find nothing but complaints about its washed HDR. Luckily they finally announced and confirmed that the new patch (V035) will be released at the end of the month to rectify this, it took nearly half a year to fix such a simple issue whilst having the gall to release a 27" 1440p240hz OLED of the same type with a much better HDR.
I read online saying Sony processing especially upscaling is much better than LG (since lots of people playing Switch’s Zelda at 1080p). Is this correct?
Sony XR processor is way ahead than LG, it has a lot more depth , this TV is also IMAX enhanced, you get 2 year's free films included from sony too,the Tvs are calibrated out the box by Sony, the materials used are more premium with metal stand. If you see the c2 next to a A90k there's no comparison you will go for the A90k ,the sound is far superior than the LG c2 you don't need external speakers the screen vibrates And is loud enough.
@@eh-rihk7972 Bro Ive never owned an OLED before this one just to be honest with you. I am upset at how long i waited to get one before this. The TV is amazing. its the only thing i game on and really is its main purpose for me. The picture quality is amazing @ 4k120, the tv settings are great and easy to change. I recently Left my place in houston to visit family and i had to bring this tv and my games with me because it is just that good.
I don't understand how your eyes can still work after this. TV's are known to give serious eye strain when used like monitors, especially when sitting that close. The A90L should be out soon, and A80L out right now.
Most of the time the treble and midrange is fairly good for use in a study room but bass is far from sufficient. Back in 2014 I bought a flagship Sony XBR950 4K TV and it sported a 3.5" jack dedicated for connecting with a subwoofer. However, all TVs on the market today have been deprived of this convenience, forcing customers to get a sound bar. It is scandal.
YMMV. powered satellites will be fine for line-out. The reason soundbars are huge, is that subs need a lot of space. You can get 'tower' vertical subs, vertical speakers are space efficient compared to a bar/soundbar, but YMMV. People don't like tower speakers anymore. The other issue is, Dolby Atmos with discrete speakers is not cheap hardware, compared to 5.1 or DTS. If you build a tower system, it needs like 4-5 speakers per tower for up/side/front firing, and there's an expensive amp required to power it and hook up all the cables around the room, sic. Soundbars don't need to do the full discrete speaker logic, so they can save money on the amps needed. Fiber/SPDIF is usually better quality than the line-out, and works with Subs that have an amplifier anyway. Arguably, inbuilt sound would be much, much easier to move the speakers into the stand. That would be the best option, but if they do this, they don't sell new TV's. Part of the situation is, soundbars also force you to upgrade, i.e. Big Bars, Big TV, sic. I think LG made a G1 or G2 that had a soundbar built into their wall-mount unit, because they could make the unit thinner without speakers, and have a slimmer unit. The Samsung One Connect and Frame TV's also have an external power brick for handling cables etc. The main reason why a TV can't deliver good sound, is that modern TV's are flat, there's nowhere for the sound to go except down, or into the back wall, because sound requires moving the air. You can't easily get around the distances needed to build a "bass" waveform. This is why the Sonos Arc/PlayBase has a bit of a chamber system to improve the bass response, it's also why soundbars get bulky/long. Surface area, matters. A cube box, is the more efficient system to move air, but you can cheat it a little by having the sound change direction or bounce around a little to increase energy over time. If you can't move enough air, then you can't get volume or stereo separation, or get rid of the distortion of the frame / desk it's standing on. While it's possible to make TV sound better ... it's very difficult without putting large 'horn' shapes inside the back plastic of the TV, which would affect cooling and weight. The effect would probably work well, but you'd also get ugly frames / side channels for the air to pass through at the sides/top/bottom of the TV as well.
I am planning to get one of this - would you be able to guide me how do you connect MacBook Pro with usb C to the TV. What cable do you use to ensure the refresh rate remains high
Which MBP are you using? If it's the M1 Max or older, you can't get 120hz out of the HDMI. I'm locked to 60hz this way. I've used USB-C to DP but that won't work on this either.
What exactly means that this TV doesn't support 1440p, as SpawnPoiint said in 5:53? I mean, if you set 4K in Windows settings and after that you set 1440p inside the settings of a PC game, the TV should display the game with black bars around or stretching it, right?
@@SpawnPoiint will look forward to that. As I hv both ps5 n series x. As well will b connecting my sky box so will look forward to your testing result.
Would you be concerned about burn-in as a monitor? The app bar at the bottom, toolbar at the top and static backgrounds on for long periods of time seem a bit like tempting fate... any thoughts?
Hello, just bought this tv thanks to your review to use on my ps5 and for watching tv, do you have a video where you show which settings to apply to the tv to get the best from it for the ps5 and general watching etc?
Nice 42” OLED SpawnPoiint! Love your videos mate and really want your opinion on this: £900 55” S95B or £900 48” C2? I can get a big discount on the S95B, is the bigger screen worth it for the ps5 even though C2 is the best? Thank you!
That’s a crazy good price for the S95B! I did a review on that a few months back. Great screen and incredibly bright. If you need it to be bright (loads of natural light or near windows) get the S95B. Otherwise the C2 wins on everything else.
How are the native apps on tv better than on a pc? I’d like to understand. Never seen a tv come close to how fast my pc is, good luck searching for something as fast as you do with a keyboard/mouse than with a remote.
Which has the better Picture Quality for watching movies/streaming, A90K or C2? i would ask about the C3 but its pretty much the same as the C2 with minor upgrades from the Reviews iv already seen.
Trust me: the C3 processor stomps the C2 for HDR for both movies and gaming. This whole 'its minor' is a little bit.... Wrong in my opinion. I sell TV's, I've literally put the same content on a 42C2 and a 42C3 and the C3 has genuinely got an edge for low black level HDR, Highlights, Colour volume. I love the C2, but the C3 is only getting a bad rep because the C2 is still on the market. The C2 got the same rep when the C1 was still available and went on to win multiple awards.... Seriously, go look, don't trust reviews
How i wish i could have any of that tv of yours . Im really am poor to buy 1 of these . Cant even afford new monitor on my oldnpc , haysss .. but i really enjoyed the review thank you
if you using pc you can make pic much brighter and colors more realistic using nv settings and so on but not many know it also service menu on my c2 can do a bit to it
I own the 42C2 that I paired with my PS5 and an RTX 4090 and I couldn't go back to a smaller size for gaming even if I had to. The picture quality and HDR on this thing still leave me awestruck. The monitor market isn't in a really good state right now, and unless you're ready to pay a lot of money for one of the OLED 1440p monitors, 42 inch OLED TV's are just a better deal across the board. Regarding your conclusions, I do agree : the LG is definitely better when it comes to gaming whereas the Sony is preferable if you plan to consume a lot of content that needs to be upscaled. The 42C2 also handles burn-in a bit more better apparently if we look at some durability tests, but I would still consider getting another monitor aside for desktop usage.
Would you use a 42" in your setup? Also, I added some background music in today's video, let me know what you think (feedback welcome).
I'm a fan of the music. Great levels :)
I got the 48 inch a90k for a great deal on an open box, and I love it. It’s nice for RPG games and 4k blu rays.
Complements really well it was very suttle initially. Would definitely include in more intros or maybe with some B-roll. 👍👌🔥
Nice vid!
Quick question, LG C2 42" 0r C3 42", Is the C3 worth the extra £500 over the C2?
I've not got my hands on the C3 yet (will do within the next few weeks), but £500 is a lot for what I've seen on paper.

I’m using a 2009 Vizio 26 inch tv that was in my mom room when she passed away… kinda crazy it’s still going.
Great video mate.. question?? Would u get this tv today?
Me watching this 30 mins after buying the LG C3 42" (phew) 😅
Awesome review👍🏼
Haha, thanks and enjoy the C3 🙌
@Hanify i know its to soon to say but how is the Picture Quality on the C3? im stuck between the A90K and C3 42"
@@ruffiyan I'll give you an update once I try it in a couple of days, I ordered it online 👍🏼
@@SolidSnake1980s any news? Our eyes can't wait to know it 👀
@@Adri9570 Hey man! I was actually thinking where was it that I should have updated about the TV, I thought it was reddit lol
So far I've used the TV for gaming on PS5 and home office and things been really great!
After looking in the menus I found and used the built-in pixel cleaner feature under the support menu and that did the trick "phew"
If you have a C2, then wait if money is a factor in your decision. But if you have an older model or something else, f'ing go for it man!
I hope that covered it all, and plz ask me if I missed something.
Nice 42" OLED. I prefer Google TV over WebOS myself so I just plugged a Chromecast with Google TV into my LG C1 :)
Great choice on the Chromecast, I think I'll do the same on my main TV now.
The Sony's are always amazing. However I can't justify the jump in price between them and the LG Oleds even when comparing the G series to the A95k. Pound for pound value for money I've gotta go LG
I'm with you on that. Hard to justify when the cost so much more.
@@SpawnPoiint I know it's not 42" but the new G3 is what I am excited to see, all the reports have said it's insane whereas the C3 Vs the C2 is more a refinement
Great review ! Did you experience any lag using your MacBook Pro? Which Mac do you have ? Which cables did you use ?
Nice 42" OLED
been looking for a new tv, so this video helps a lot
Where is your desk mat from? And how much is it?
Great video as always dude!
I have both C2 and this. I prefer the sony
Finally, been waiting for your review on this tv. Always watch your review before buying. Thanks for making the choice easier 👍
That's awesome, thank you. I normally review within a week, but wanted to spend more time with it first.
yeah I would lean towards the LG too. This Sony TV doesn't show FPS in a menu which I think is helpful nowadays for console gamers
Nice OLED, I hope you could add the measurements that are harder to find online like you used to do with other TVs
I do that in my unboxing videos not the full reviews 💪
@@SpawnPoiint oh my bad 😞, great review
How are the 42 and 48 inch the same price?!
No idea haha. But they are. The C2 did the same last year too. In fact the 48 was cheaper at one time than the 42
Just because he said he would buy the lg c3 OLED I went with the c3 and I’m not disappointed
It's a premium television for sure.
Just bought the 48” xr48a90k today
Nice 42” Oled 👍🏻
Thank you!
I love my lg C1 Oled I bought last year when price dropped below 1000$ was steal don’t regret one bit
@Hyperfluxe Would you recommend this monitor for someone going for a 50/50 gaming and productivity use?
I have a 43 inch for my setup right now, def wanna get the Sony tv tho just for 120hz
I bought a Sony Bravia 43" smart tv 2 years ago & I am happy with it
Nice Video 😎👍
Thank you 🙌
@@SpawnPoiint your welcome 👍
I read online saying Sony processing especially upscaling is much better than LG (since lots of people playing Switch’s Zelda at 1080p). Is this correct?
Sounds about right. Sony's processor puts in work for older content and especially for SDR gaming compared to LG.
Yes. Sony’s XR upscaler is incredible!
Yes especially if you use Reality Creation.
Just got the 48in version of this for 550 at a Best Buy outlet store. I’m so thankful I found one for that price
Thoughts? Everyone says to get a lg but I see one for 500. That’s def my price range
Back in the day 42’’ TVs look huge now they look so small
Haha yeh crazy really
😂 ☠ Omg yes. Even 48 looks small
42" i can't wait for you to review the 2023 c2
Wish this came in a 32 inch version
What’s the name of the shooting game you were playing?
There was Warzone and dead island 2
@@SpawnPoiint thank you
NICE 42" OLED 😎
What exactly means that this TV doesn't support 1440p, as SpawnPoiint said in 5:53?
I mean, if you set 4K in Windows settings and after that you set 1440p inside the settings of a PC game, the TV should display the game with black bars around or stretching it, right?
I had a 42 A90k and sold it to try and get something bigger now regret it it is a great tv
Nice 42, been looking at this and lg c3 still undecided 😂
Tough choice. Going to buy a C3 soon and test
@@SpawnPoiint will look forward to that. As I hv both ps5 n series x. As well will b connecting my sky box so will look forward to your testing result.
Where do you get a big mouse pad from?
Would you be concerned about burn-in as a monitor? The app bar at the bottom, toolbar at the top and static backgrounds on for long periods of time seem a bit like tempting fate... any thoughts?
In your Video, use an app name magnet is it only on computer not on Android?
From where you order the table?
Hello, just bought this tv thanks to your review to use on my ps5 and for watching tv, do you have a video where you show which settings to apply to the tv to get the best from it for the ps5 and general watching etc?

Nice 42” OLED SpawnPoiint! Love your videos mate and really want your opinion on this:
£900 55” S95B or £900 48” C2?
I can get a big discount on the S95B, is the bigger screen worth it for the ps5 even though C2 is the best? Thank you!
That’s a crazy good price for the S95B! I did a review on that a few months back. Great screen and incredibly bright. If you need it to be bright (loads of natural light or near windows) get the S95B. Otherwise the C2 wins on everything else.
@@SpawnPoiint Thank you so much!! I wouldn't need it crazy bright + it doesn't have DV, but the bigger screen makes it worthwhile right?
Can't wait for you to review Samsung S95C
Same haha. Trying to get a local retailer to loan me one.
Can I ask you what is the peak luminance of the a90k?
Nice 42" OLED. I've been considering the C2 42" or the 48" as a monitor but mainly for gaming. Have you tried using a 48" as a daily monitor?
How bout a 65 inch for a monitor?
How are the native apps on tv better than on a pc? I’d like to understand. Never seen a tv come close to how fast my pc is, good luck searching for something as fast as you do with a keyboard/mouse than with a remote.
This may work with other newer TVs too, but the my Sony Bravia X90K tv remote works with my PS5. Able to navigate apps and media with ease.
Could you share the paint color of your room?
Sony 90k have usb port or not
plus did you set up sound in settings in the right way? beacouse many people dont do it or doing it wrong ...

@@SpawnPoiintwell it certainly paid off 🫡
Which has the better Picture Quality for watching movies/streaming, A90K or C2? i would ask about the C3 but its pretty much the same as the C2 with minor upgrades from the Reviews iv already seen.
Try bad boys, the upscale of that is insane 😍😍
Can you wall mount the 48inch one?
How i wish i could have any of that tv of yours . Im really am poor to buy 1 of these . Cant even afford new monitor on my oldnpc , haysss .. but i really enjoyed the review thank you

Nice 42” OLED
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
Are there any smaller OLEDs that would fit on my desk on a multi monitor setup
also i hear this TV supports a lot of DTS sound formats that the LG tvs do not support at all its why i am interested in it
I own the 42C2 that I paired with my PS5 and an RTX 4090 and I couldn't go back to a smaller size for gaming even if I had to.
Did you know you said if you want to use 1440p on PlayStation or pc it won't work.
