As someone who bugs Atlus about the location of Project Re Fantasy every survey, I feel the pain. Hashino gives his yearly Famitsu update about Re Fantasy every year at the end of year (the same exact update at the end of 2020 and 2021). At the end of 2022, Hashino didn't even show up. No one knows what Studio Zero is really up to.
Development hell, definitely development hell. I can just smell the chaos from the radio silence.
I honestly would be more surprised if I heard that it's coming out, at least any time soon over it silently being canceled. I feel like at best it silently got scrapped and development rebooted at some point.
Yeah, who knows what's going on with Project Re Fantasy right now. From what I remember, it wasn't even a real game when they first revealed it. One of those announcing the game in order to recruit talent for it situations. Hell the first few announcements for it were "we're playing board games to get the feel of things."
It could be a dead project.
That sucks cuz I would've loved to see their interpretation of a purely fantasy setting oh well it is what it is
The short gap between announcement and release that we’ve seen for soul hackers 2 and the Etrian odyssey remasters has me hopeful the Atlus learned the right lessons after all the p5 and smt v shenanigans

I disagree completely. I like theorizing and building hype. Those early days before P5 was launching were amazing. Seeing the chairs on the red backdrop with the chains was the coolest thing ever. I would far prefer if they didn't announce it but teased it. Random little images and teasers for future games is far better than knowing absolutely nothing before its six months away from release and there is no time to build hype because they upload videos about it every single day. There is no mystery or intrigue. They give way too much information way too fast and sudden now.
@@backupschmliff1156 some developers dislike doing teasers just look at the Hollow Knight community and how the developers don’t tease anything. Some developers don’t want to spoil a game, and some fans are angry at not getting real news when a game is announced so even teases like you’re suggesting don’t vibe with everyone. It depends on the person and developers who have a passion for their creations want people to experience them a certain way which usually means they dislike showing too much even if you or I say it doesn’t show anything. Trailers are just the marketing team forcing developers to showcase the games to sell which is why they have so much info.
Persona doesn’t even feel like a theorizing game compared to Hollow Knight. Most info in Persona is straightforward with the only exceptions being the otherworldly beings which don’t make up most of the game. Like final antagonists are generally otherworldly beings or linked to them, but most of the info you need to know is told with some things being up in the air.
@@anthonynguyen1289 What are you talking about. How is that even related. I just said little teasers like the iconic Persona 5 image with the chairs. It didn't even say the game but we all knew what it was. Hollow Knight isn't even comparable because they didn't do that thing before. Atlus does though. The website they made for Soul Hackers 2 was really cool, for example, but it was way too late.

@@backupschmliff1156 if fans think a game series that sold really well isn’t getting another game they are just crazy unless the company bankrupted or something the game will be made. Also Fither already mentioned what he saw and things he felt about the long wait times for SMT V and Persona V.
Teasing things out without the product almost on the way pisses off more fans because they’ll want constant updates look at Tears of the Kingdom the discourse for it was being angry up until the final trailer unless you were a die hard fan.
I think advertising shouldn’t start until a half year until release or when the game is mostly complete like it will release in a year. Teasing something way too early just for people to speculate seems more detrimental. Especially since you don’t even fully know where you want to take a game if you tease it before the bulk of it is done.
I’m so glad the ReFantazio part of this video aged poorly because that game looks tight.
That’s what’s been on my mind for a while atlus is definitely cooking up major releases but they’ve been totally radio silent REfantasy being the big thing
I pray that in terms of ports, 3Ds ones are high priority because of the eshop shutdown + Atlus taking notice of western fans’ sales counts (dare I be optimistic and think that maybe they saw our criticisms of sh2 looking and feeling low-budget). Nintendo’s somewhat recent blow-up about emulation is actually the perfect time to move 3Ds ports into high gear for Switch…… It would help Nintendo’s rep and any of them would sell more than soul hackers 2 with just as much effort put into porting; a lot of the 3Ds titles are well-praised games by the community, no?

Obviously Atlus is gonna bring back the Trauma Center series with a port of the first game and an announcement of a new game that improves and fixes what Trauma Team was trying to do.
Literally like 5 atlus fans will play etrian odyssey and I'll be one of them lol. Especially excited to play 3 for the first time as its free from the ds jail.
I wasn't a particularly big fan of the gameplay of Etrian Odyssey 2. I dislike it so much I didn't finish Persona Q.
If they port/remaster any game next I want it to be the original three Persona games. I know some Atlus fans gotta be sick of them shafting every other franchise in favor of more Persona but 1 and the 2 duology are genuinely great an newer persona fan who got in with the franchise going multiplat should have the option to experience them

if i'm being totally honest, i hope to god that they stop with the ports/remasters/remakes. etrian odyssey origins is my most anticipated game of the year so far, and even then i'd have preferred we just gotten etrian 6.
it feels like so much of the gaming industry now is stuff i've already bought years ago, there's almost nothing that's actually "new" anymore. not to mention, games now are getting too expensive (speaking as a consumer, i guess it makes more sense on the corporate side of things to sell something that you'd already know will be well-recieved) to justify it.

Someday we will actually know what project re fantasy is.
The reason that I always remember project re fantasy is because it was advertised a little in etrian Odyssey nexus with the red girl being a dlc portrait so I was always looking for any info on the 2 series. The next Etrian Odyssey game the teased in 2018 is the thing I been waiting for, I don't think that's what the remasters are I see that as more of a test for the series off the 3ds so I do hope we get that next game.
A new raidou game I think is a vary good idea because our of all of atlus spin-offs I think raidou is the one that is as stylish as persona 5, it just needs a new coat of paint plus atlus doesn't make many action game's so it would probably stand out more if they can make the gameplay good. The raidou op is probably one of my favorite atlus tracks.
Hey Fither I wanna know if there is any way to view some of your older videos like the law vs chaos debate, yugioh dude fithcast, what if Megaten had tabletop rpg, why a persona 3 remake is a bad idea, whats wrong with the femc, our controversial opinions, etc. I really liked seeing most of your odler stuff minus the doujin reviews but even then I feel like your legacy content should still be accessible somewhere like on a separate channel.
Same man. Especially the Tabletop one, i rewatched that one multiple times it was so fun.
It's deleted now but the Doujin thing, some author of one of them was mad about them laughing about it so they stopped the series all together so don't expect that one.
It's a shame the vid that introduced me to Fither, personality archetypes like Tsundere Yandere was deleted. I loved it so much.

Supposedly, a reliable leaker has said that the P3 Remake will be revealed at an Xbox showcase. Not too confident myself, but keeping hopes low is how you get pleasantly surprised.

Yeah porting stuff over should be really easy for them. DDS would be the easiest because its just nocturne then they could do the Raidou games and maybe make the rumored third game. They could even make a fully translated Devil Summoner and update the graphics and release that. Lots of options for them to just keep the lights on rather than making a new IP
I agree, feels like a no brainer, but this Atlus we are talking about.
I do expect a port eventually for SMT V for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Or at the very bare minimum it will come to PC. Out of all of Atlus' heavy hitters that will be the easiest thing to hold people over while they work on the likes of Persona 6. As to whether or not that port will come out this year, who knows, but with them having nothing else to announce a port of SMT V being announced as early as Summer Game Fest or Xbox Showcase seems like a possibility.
I hope they will make SMT V updated rerelease. Out of all Atlus games, SMT V really needs a lot of fixes and additional content. Also, having couple more bosses as fusable demons would be nice, like Lucifer specially.

if Persona 6 happens... I'd like them to take the idea of Innocent Sin and go all in on modern fake news. Every once in a while we get an update about Re Fantasy "Reaching the climax" of its development. I think that last one we got was in 2020.
During the next five years I predict the release of Persona 3 Remake, new Persona 5 spin-off to tie up metanarrative loose ends, Persona 6, SMTV rerelease/sequel, SMT spin-off, Project Re:Fantasy (there was a recent interview where Katsura Hashino comfirmed Re:Fantasy was alive, it was during the Honkai Star Rail and Persona 5 interview), Etrian Oddyssey VI, New Vanillaware game published by Atlus, and we might get more in the next 5 years
Edit: Well, we can check off Persona 3 Remake, Persona 5 Spin-off and are Fantazio off the list (pretty good for the first of the next five years).

there was a japanese interview done a bit over a month ago with hashino and they still gave him the title of director of re fantasy so the project is likely still in the works. preliminary development also ended in 2021 so i assume either they were not happy with it or they thought it had the chance to expand. either way i think it is for sure still coming and maybe we see it soon. with the big atlus wave about to hit (remake and 6) as well as smt 30th (assuming they release ports of games) the company should have no problem announcing that the project was cancelled due to confidence in their full lineup. if we get remake, a p6 tease, smt ports and etrian within the next 6 months we will get re fantasy news good or bad.
Would be nice to get SMT game news during the SMT 30th.

They already said no major announcements for that event. We do have multiple video game events (especially Tokyo Game Show in September) that have potential.
I understand that Project Re Fantasy may never come out, but Damn the Little Artwork that there is of it looks amazing.
The fact Etrian Odyssey got HD remasters and it was last place on the top10 remaster/remake list from the Atlus survey makes me wonder.
I've been waiting for project re fantasy ever since they announced it. they pitched it as something innovative, and I'm sure as heck still waiting on what it is gonna be like lol.
I really want HD remasters for DDS 1+2 as one set for PS4, PS5, Switch, PC, etc.
I heard rumors of them revealing the P3 remake at the XBox showcase and I tend to believe that. Phil is throwing mighty marketing dollars at Atlus right now, so if anything I'm not at all surprised they didn't have anything for the PS showcase.
Another thing they could have on the horizon is the old "re-release our latest mainline game with some core updates" thing with SMT V. The base game was part of the old GeForce Now database leak (one that didn't catch the P5R port) and I wouldn't be surprised if Atlus have a clause in their agreement with Nintendo to allow that new edition to release on all platforms.

@@OblivionFalls The leaked trailer looks like perfect hype bait in that it shows NOTHING. Like, sure, controllable teammates and some kind of Tartarus crawling mechanics rework, but nothing about how it really works, or the content (FeMC? the Answer? S-Link changes? anything???). The only thing we know with this is the thing we already knew: it exists and we're getting it soon.
Im wondering if they're going to do an enhanced port of SMT V. I feel like it makes sense, they have an extremely strong base there, if the characters and stories were expanded more, I think it would improve the game a lot.
Plus, if it sold that well on the switch, I feel like making it multiplatform could he be really good for them, especially because they game has some minor performance issues on the switch.

Hey, I know this is a weird video to comment on about this, but I had a really interesting idea for a JoJo x Persona video; I wanna see how Naoto would deal with being afflicted by Jail House Lock, or maybe some other smart methodical persona character like Makoto or Akechi but I think Naoto would be most interesting here

They should remake SMT 1 so that they can rediscover their roots in adapting it.
I would love a remake of SMT1 with SMT5's graphics and combat.
I'd rather radio silence than them doing a repeat of persona 5 and smt5 where they anounced them and then were in limbo so long I forgot about them, I only even got SMT5 day one cuz a friend told me we had a release date so I preordered, my biggest hope if they announce anything persona related is that it has a concrete release window and non story details on reveal (Setting location, central theme etc) , then maybe dripfeed trailers or do what a lot of indie developers do and drop teaser screenshots on social media to keep it fresh in the mind without just a post every six months saying, It's coming trust us.
But more than anything I just want whatever next main instalment comes out be it SMT, Persona etc, to have a worldwide release cuz avoiding any and all spoilers for months to a year is honestly a pain.
