I watched this and about a half dozen casting videos, without sound. Yours is by far the best instruction, with the most simple throwing action. I can't wait to try my new net out. Thanks!
Thanks for the thought you put into this. I watched multiple videos on this, but couldn't get my 6 footer to open. I watched Part 1 with the towel and table illustration, and BINGO, I went out and threw a pancake!
Oh, the winter time is when I am expecting a lot more visits to my channel from the miserable main land. You can only grit your teeth and smile while shivering saying "fishing is still fun in the snow." LOL.
I’ve watched dozens of videos to try and teach myself to throw a cast net and this is by far the best one out there. Showing the towel and how it opens just made it click for me. Thank you.
Well somebody actually knows something you watch 20 videos and everyone else is different from the 1st thanks so much for the information and the understanding made so simple
Eureka! Your Towel Throwing instruction was the Epiphany in Cast Net throwing I was searching for.! 👍 I was trying to throw my Right side of the Net over the Right side of the table (or Bait Area) and wondering why my Net would never open up. Thanks! 😸
Thanks for the video Steve. Just purchased my 5 fter to practice for my 10 day trip in the end of March. The next few weeks will consist of watching Key West Kayak at my office desk and looking like a jabroni throwing a cast net in Lake Michigan.
That'll work. Do it in small segments. You get tired after a little while then everything goes to hell. Better to do a lot of short time practices. Just remember you will be throwing in a bunch of different positions.
Thanks for such an easy explanation, I never used a cast net before and my 7yr old wanted one for days no fish bite by the pier. Now I can teach him how to use it and I also can take advantage of it for some live bait
Great video. This has to be the best how to cast net video on UA-cam and trust me I've watched them all! Thank you for taking the time to make a great tutorial. Look foward to more.
Thanks Rafael. I did the same thing. Just a bunch of people throwing the net without explaining anything. I must have tried twenty different styles before I figured it out.
Earned a subscriber and a like, the is best video I have seen yet on throwing a cast net. I got a 6' net that I can throw 2 nice pretty ones in a row and then 10 trash throws and had no idea what I was doing different between throws. This video is best one yet on amount of power as well as how to get the rotation started properly.
Welcome to the channel. Yea, throwing the net is a huge part of fishing down here so very important to get the skill down pat. It took me a while to figure it out as well. One time good three times bad. LOL. I think I have it down now though. Pretty much don't even have to think about it anymore.
Good video brother. Nice job explaining the concept at the start. I had trouble with consistency. Now, I make sure of my hand work and also being 6’3 I also let more net hand from my right hand, and by the time I stretch my arms out my 6’ net s almost open before I throw it.
Awesome video bro. It's great that you always give detailed instructions on what you are doing. Keep the videos coming. I share them with people all the time.
Thanks Andrew. Yea, once I got over that long video phobia, it allowed me to be a lot more specific on stuff. I kind of learned that people can do 90% of what I tell them to do but they will still not catch fish. Everything really makes a difference.
Good vid! Everyone who's serious about fishing should know that the fish doesn't care what you wear or what fancy gear you own...it's all about the bait! ; )
1st off BEST VIDEO EVER. I thought I would never get it. I actually understand now how to throw a 4 foot cast net (after watching many videos on UA-cam) What 4 foot cast net is the all around best? I just bought a 4 foot Goture American Saltwater Fishing Cast Net...I HATE IT Thanks for finnaly putting a video out that teaches the physics.
i tried a LOT of methods but this one works best for my 5 ft (10ft diameter) Old Salt. First throw was good; second attempt was a circular piece of art.
Wow! You truly are living the dream! What you do for a living? I wish I could live in Key West and go fishing as much as you do but I live in Japan and it is nothing like Key West! Great videos man and I enjoy watching them
Hey Villa Villa. We both live on islands so not too far off. I think living in the big cities of Japan costs a lot more than it does here. thanks for watching.
Steve, great videos. The entire series is educational. I have only thrown a net a few time in my life and only in my pool. I have totally forgotten what size it was and I would like to start throwing again. I will be throwing from a kayak (fortunately, I have a deck to stand on to make it easier). What size to you recommend? It not like you can go to the store and try them out like a pair of shoes. BTW, I am 6 ft. tall. I only mention that for guidance. I know that there are guys way under 6 ft tall that throw 10 foot nets all day long.
It is not the throwing that you have to worry about on the kayak, but the setting up and clearing the net after the throw. Too big of a net and it is impossible to get straightened out on a kayak. I recommend no taller than you can reach straight up. check out my cast net playlist and there are a couple of them that I explain the net sizes.
Awesome video man. I've been watching videos and trying to throw a 6ft cast net with 50/50 success on all the other methods I've seen. This looks easier and faster than all the others. Gonna give this way a try. I'm a new subscriber.
What brand is your net? I have a five foot net that I can throw so that it lands in a circle but will not lie flat. The center sticks up. Looks like a big witches hat.
No cast netting is banned where I live. I'll have to look up and see where you are allowed to use them. The west coast is a big area so the fishing rules change for different areas. I wish we were allowed to use them here. I'll have to check up the rules to see where I can and can't use nets!
You fish a lot of blue water so you can hook and line plenty of big baits. They were not allowed in parts of California where I am originally from. Chumming was also a no no. A lot of different styles of fishing so I guess the reason for all the different rules.
I think so. We catch a lot of fish and use for bait. The wrasse and scorpion fish make good bait. I've even used garden snails for bait. I put one on Leannes hook and she didn't think it would work, it worked well!! I tagged you in a UA-cam 7 question video I hope you don't mind. I also tagged Hookem in the mouth!!! I'm looking forward to when they lift the demersal fishing ban so I can start using my rod and reel again!!!
I went out with a 9ft 1"mesh and caught a flathead, bream and garfish, and a little squid (I'm in gold coast, Australia). Heaps of fun, I caught the fish I wanted the bait for but next to no bait. I'm thinking throw the target fishes bait in the water then just throw the net on top. I'm only half way through and I like ur full explanation. Thank u.
Great video. I have a question. When i take that 2nd part of the net to keep in my left hand for the throw does it matter where i grab that from. Or am i followin it down from the 1st part i put in right han. Man i hope that makes sense
Just depends. If you are just learning how to throw the net or have given up on it out of frustration 25 minutes is totally worth it. If you already know, definitely click away. I think my big net video is even longer lol. But...nothing else matters but the bait so you better watch the whole thing. And take notes. LOL. or click away.
I have watched like 90% of the videos you have posted 😂. I have a 16 dusky let's go fishing in the keys im in miami. It's a bully boat but very roomy with a 17 60 etec shallow draft
Steve I realize this vid has been out for a while but after I tried many times the right side never seems to completely open. Any suggestion? You know it’s all about the bait!
I'm an RN, I've tried throwing a sheet corner to corner, it never works for me. I watch people do it, quite impressively, yet I can never do it. As it happens, I can't throw a net either. What am I doing wrong if the net is getting skinny in the air?
I use nothing less than an 8 foot net otherwise they are to light and harder for me to throw efficiently. I use an 8 or 10 foot Tim Wade net and use the triple load method which I find the easiest.
I remember my dad would make these bait traps out of light cage metal box shape litle opening 2 x 2 feet hed get a lot of minnows but crabs and slimey things but wed fish all day san diego bay
Yea, I should have put a little disclaimer box about braces. That would definitely save you a trip to the dentist when they are due to come off. Switch to the third load method. No teeth risk.
Man, you're the only person in UA-cam who actually explained how to cast a small net and how it differs from casting a larger one. God bless you, bro
Finally someone that really explains how to throw a small castnet. I can now throw a pancake thanks to you.👍👍👍
I have watched dozens of cast net videos and yours is the best. Detailed explanation of the process was extremely helpful. Thank you.
I watched this and about a half dozen casting videos, without sound. Yours is by far the best instruction, with the most simple throwing action. I can't wait to try my new net out. Thanks!
Best video out there. Not only how, but why! Once I understood the theory it was a piece of cake!
Thanks for the thought you put into this. I watched multiple videos on this, but couldn't get my 6 footer to open. I watched Part 1 with the towel and table illustration, and BINGO, I went out and threw a pancake!
I've watched at least a dozen UA-cam videos on throwing a cast net, and Steve's technique is the one that works for me. Thank you...
I have watched many videos. Yours is the best and easiest to understand. Thank You
Great job Steve, that water is crystal clear.
Yea, and warm too. Definitely don't take it for granted. Get to fish all year round.
You don't have to rub it in!!! LOL
Oh, the winter time is when I am expecting a lot more visits to my channel from the miserable main land. You can only grit your teeth and smile while shivering saying "fishing is still fun in the snow." LOL.
The best small net instructional I’ve seen, thanks very much for showing this. Good luck and good fishing.
I’ve watched dozens of videos to try and teach myself to throw a cast net and this is by far the best one out there. Showing the towel and how it opens just made it click for me. Thank you.
This was very helpful, thanks, Steve
Well somebody actually knows something you watch 20 videos and everyone else is different from the 1st thanks so much for the information and the understanding made so simple
Thanks. This is the best video I've seen yet on throwing a cast net.
That technique it’s all I use now thank you so much you were great third keep it up you just earned yourself a new subscriber
hey i just noticed but me and you have the same cast net! Now i know this will %100 work on my cast net
Watched this video after trying unsuccessfully to throw my cast net several times. This showed me what I have been doing wrong. Thanks for the lesson.
that is the best cast net video iv seen thank you
Going to pick up my 5 ft today. Gonna practice what u have shown and gonna give it a try tonight on the beach. Great video
Excellent job!!! I will definitely be watching this series a few times...Thanks
Thanks Dennis. Big net is coming tomorrow. Hope they help.
Great stuff I have to give this a try....Fish on

10-4 Steve, thanks!
Great video...instruction are simple and to the point...you are a great instructor. Thank you again
My way sucks compared to this. Good detailed and easy to understand instructions. Thanks for this video!
Hope it was helpful. Yea, for cast nets, ease of use is very important.
Thanks for such an easy explanation, I never used a cast net before and my 7yr old wanted one for days no fish bite by the pier. Now I can teach him how to use it and I also can take advantage of it for some live bait
This is the scientist of net throwing. After the setup, it important to keep the net tight between your hands to twist the net to spin it
Thanks for sharing. I learned a lot and now I can throw pretty good!🤙🤙💪
Absolutely beautiful casting. Very well done sir.
Great video. This has to be the best how to cast net video on UA-cam and trust me I've watched them all! Thank you for taking the time to make a great tutorial. Look foward to more.

I'm gonna practice more in my backyard....I'm jonesing to fish now! Great vid Steve!
Hope it helps. Nothing beats that fresh caught bait.
Hello Steve, awesome video bro thanks for all those technical details in how throw a net, keep those vid coming.👍
Thanks Diego. Hope they helped. It would have saved me months of frustration if I had learned earlier.
The simplicity is great! I was trying to throw a 5 ft net using a technique maybe more appropriate for a larger net and it wasn’t working for me
Awesome video bro. It's great that you always give detailed instructions on what you are doing. Keep the videos coming. I share them with people all the time.

LOL. Unless it is a Salt Life shirt. Then that matters. LOL.
Key West Kayak Fishing
LOL...I was thinking Guy Harvey but salt life will do in a pinch.
so very nice video... I am just think twice to believe because I didn't see the bull after the demo of your towel. lol :D
1st off BEST VIDEO EVER.
I thought I would never get it.
I actually understand now how to throw a 4 foot cast net (after watching many videos on UA-cam)
What 4 foot cast net is the all around best?
I just bought a 4 foot Goture American Saltwater Fishing Cast Net...I HATE IT
Thanks for finnaly putting a video out that teaches the physics.
Excellent Tips!
Thank you for this video! I've been intimidated by cast nets (for whatever reason) but after your instruction I got it down in less than 5 mins.
Great to hear. Glad the videos were helpful. Catch em up.
It really is all about the bait Steve. Nothing really matters except the bait. Go catch em.

love your vids Steve you are informative. I lack that! Way to get your teacher on!
Thx. Gotta preach the sport.

for a new net, do you soak it in fabric softener & warm water?
Awesome ❤
Steve, Is this method works for Bottom pocket castnets? Because i'm going to get Bottom pocket castnet if it works.
fantastic explanation !!! thank you..
How big are the holes in the net? Small enough to catch and hold 1-2 inch minnows?
Will this work on an 8 or 10 foot?
very detailed explanation sir.. but i honestly didnt plan spending 25 minutes to learn how to throw a net..

Glad it could be of some use.
What size is that net pls, somebody?
Great video...no more putting the nasty net in my mouth!
Steve I realize this vid has been out for a while but after I tried many times the right side never seems to completely open. Any suggestion? You know it’s all about the bait!
Try holding the net tight between both hands before you throw it. then when you throw it, give the net a twisting motion
@@greer8288 tx!

Question Steve. previous vid you were fishing with Big joe lol, witch bridge you where fishing from?
Thanks bro..
That one is Park Channel. Just west of the Sugarloaf school.
Thank you steve I know what i was doing wrong now.
Good deal. Glad it helped.

Thanks
To you,

Awesome
Glad you liked it.

I remember my dad would make these bait traps out of light cage metal box shape litle opening 2 x 2 feet hed get a lot of minnows but crabs and slimey things but wed fish all day san diego bay
We have something similar for pinfish. Put some fish scraps in it and the next morning you have a bunch of bait ready for you.
he used bread
Yea, for regular minnows which are vegetarians, that makes sense.
yeah alot of those
what size net do you use

Key West Kayak Fishing c
Great video thank you. The sting ray with the saw nose at the end of the video......that's some code brown scary shizza going on there......yikes!
Ah, the good old Sawfish. Pretty cool dude. They are making a comeback.
took ,5 min just to start
i tried one where you stick the net in your mooth and i have braces... mistakes were made that day.i really need to think
Yea, I should have put a little disclaimer box about braces. That would definitely save you a trip to the dentist when they are due to come off. Switch to the third load method. No teeth risk.
Key West Kayak Fishing its okay! good video btw
It's all about the bait, can't make a strategic plan with no bait.
I'll burn a whole day just searching. Still fun though.
muito show
Thanks Canal. You haven't posted any new videos lately?
I'm First
Are you sure.

Like most videos. Please get to the point, this should be a one minute video
Too much talking just get to the main topic too boring minus well write a book understand!!!
That's a far throw!!
One of the benefits of the small net.
Talks to much. Get to how to throw net.
Nice vid man! Please don't take offense to this but are you gay? Just asking since you live in Key west.
In Key West, you are either gay or you fish. LOL. Nah, you can be a drunk also. LOL.
O Lol!
