10 TIPS to Become a Top 1% Uber Driver in California [2022]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 чер 2024
- I've logged over 1600 Uber rides in 3 major California cities: San Francisco, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. I've developed several techniques to ensure 5-star ratings without begging for ratings or displaying anything in my car suggesting people rate me high. I guarantee by including even one or two of these tips into your arsenal, you'll see an improvement in your 5-star ratings. If you did all of them, it would improve by leaps and bounds.
#1 Buy all weather mats
#2 Buy air neutralizer/deodorizer spray
#3 Buy individually wrapped candy in bulk
#4 Buy bottled water
#5 Playlist with good, neutral, well-rounded music
#6 Car cleanliness
#7 Promote conversation
#8 Dress appropriately
#9 Ask rider if they have a preferred route
#10 When the trip finishes, make eye contact and thank the rider

I think a 2 way dash cam is a must to protect yourself from road issues accidents and problematic passengers... In case there is a doubt or argument you watch the videos. Everyone who spends a significant time on the road should have one.
100% agree! My wife recently got in an accident (fortunately with no one in the car) and the first thing we were thinking is how much we wish we had a dash cam!
3000+ trips and I think a camera might have helped me about 4 times. Not going to worry about it. Life is too short and I don't want my passengers thinking their conversations are being recorded. What happens in my Uber stays in my Uber. I am taking a risk but I am a big boy and I can handle it. Plus you always get some cool stories to tell people about your worst Uber riders.
I can agree with that. Up until this point, a dash cam would have helped me 0 times, but never say never... I think it would be fun to have recordings of awful passengers personally.
Michael Ishay Raveh absolutely
Some say a dash cam is also helpful to prevent issues. As passengers will not do crazy stuff on camera...
4.97 with over 2000 rides. I just keep my car clean and smelling good. That's it.
That's most of the battle! All the rest I do is just a little bonus to make up for my bad jokes while I'm driving!
4.96 with 5k rides. I do the same. Clean car and nice smile. People love the simplicity.
Agree with you, I have 1900 rides and 4.98. Dress nice and keep car nice and clean!
Alex Maldonado right bribery unnecessary
damn yall put some miles on your cars!!
"I swear I don't smoke weed when I drive." Puts on Reggae playlist.
Haha! People ask me about that sometimes, but honestly, I just love the way the music makes me feel. If I'm by myself I'd probably choose 80s rock sometimes, but it's not always a fan favorite.
LOLOL 😂 As his wife, I think this is a hilarious comment! Trust me though, he is as straight laced as they come.
2 funny!

..., 11..., 12...
All really good tips. I had not thought about all weather mats, but will be buying some once I hit my second $1K in earnings. Watching out for them on eBay now... Bought my dash cam with my first $1K in earnings. Love the candy in cup holders idea. Already doing most of these. Really nice to have other customer friendly drivers confirm best practices :)
Uber drivers aren't robots, chill...
Mich Dax This list was really helpful! Thanks Mich!
I have a 4.93 and I don't offer water/juice/candy/gum. I ask passengers how their day/evening/night is going, respond accordingly and get them where they are going. The only thing that I do when I drop them off is ask them if they have their phones, wallets, keys ext, and tell them to have a good day/evening/night. Other than that I just keep the car mostly clean inside and out and make sure it doesn't smell bad.
That's awesome advice especially for driving at night! I left my wallet in a Lyft in Hawaii and didn't have it until 3 days later when I was leaving I finally got in touch with our driver. Was a horrifying trip!
I have a 4.96 been driving 4 years over 5 thousand rides. Did none of them. No candies no water. Good music, iphone charger, and good conversation. Remember, its nor a limo service. They know that. You don't have to go all the way out. People will rate you 1 just because they dont like your hair lol.
Same here
The more I watch these videos about uber and lyft, the more I want to do it full time. Great video and thanks for the info!
It certainly can be fun to hustle and make a decent living. Plus, immediate pay uts??? Game over right!?!
California Rideshare, ignore these haters. I think what you're doing is great and don't ever stop. You seem to make a phenomenal experience for not only the rider but yourself also. Hope you keep killing it and keep making videos. They are very interesting to me.
I'm not too concerned about what other people have to say. I'm fine with people disagreeing as to what makes someone a top Uber driver, but there really isn't a fair metric to use besides driver rating. I recently took a ride from a driver with 11,000 trips. His car was filthy, but he was a pretty nice guy just trying to make a living. I gave him a 5 and tipped him like I do every ride I take. Most people obviously don't have a problem with him because I think his rating was like a 4.81, but it's plain to see a few little improvements would help him stand out and probably get tipped more often. If you're going to use Uber as a second or even a first job, you might as well treat it like a job right? Costs very little to do the little extra that I do and it yields results.
Great video man! I use a great business module and have success, but something told me to watch your video. Sure enough, 1-9 I exercise but you left a great tip with 10. Great 101 training session👍🏼
Thanks for the compliment! I'm sure there are many things other drivers utilize to help them out. I am sure I can improve by using other's tips as well, these are just things that have personally helped me and I'm glad I could add 1 to your arsenal!
Great video. I especially liked the info about all weather floor mats, your reggae play list and how listening to that is like being on vacation, and about making eye contact when you say thank you for riding with me.
In LA you have to pretend you're on vacation to help you get over being in traffic. It helps lighten the mood when waiting at stop lights as well. Thanks for your support Cappy!
Number #2 made me laugh so much! I will take this in consideration considering were legalizing here in Canada soon :) Thank you for your time and great advice -
Dude!!! Awesome video man. Thank you very much for all the tips... Definitely will use all...
Thanks for the support Jeremy. Feel free to share any suggestions on things you've done that helped you!
I agree 💯
I am 4.94 Uber driver in San Diego
And do exactly the same thing and I was shocked when u suggested reggae. As playlist because the same idea you mentioned that made me chose reggae over any other type of music.
KUDOS 👍🏾
Great minds think alike Nelson! Thanks!
Thanks so much, I'm Retired & Considering doing this also. The points you made was just what I was thinking about also. Excellent information.
Great Video! Well presented! I’d feel comfortable riding with someone who was as conscientious as you! Great job, Erik!
Thanks for the support Jodie! Seems silly, but I constantly think to myself "would my parents be proud of the way I conduct myself or proud of my driving style?"
Awesome video man. Keep it up and screw the haters
Great advice, pal. You are very articulate in explaining your recommendations and you obviously understand "professionalism" and "customer satisfaction". If Uber has any kind of "training" program, they should promote you to be a trainer of the newbies. Good job!
Thank you so much for the kind words and support! Man I actually would love to work as an Uber trainer. Would be a pretty sweet gig!
Hello Eric, I just subscribed to your channel. A very good video you put together here. I am with you on ALL 10 of your tips. #11 would be to offer charging cables. 5 STARS!!
Thanks for the tip! After another 500 trips I've been thinking for a few more tips I can suggest to people and that may be one of them. Also thanks for subscribing!
Very informative. Thank you. I’m only 23 rides in and I really like your style. I totally agree.
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for sharing these great ideas on how to get good ratings on uber
You are a great salesman and i will take your points to heart.
Thanks I appreciate the support!
Great video. I'm from LA as well and I'll be starting Uber and Lyft real soon. Subscribed! ✔️👊
Joe any updates on your driving experiences here?
Great video I just started Uber a week ago and this came in really handy
Thanks, I appreciate the support! I'll be putting together another one soon!
I just started last week driving for Uber part time and about to hit 100 trips here soon. All the tips you have provided I’ve been doing and definitely works with the riders giving me a 5 star rating (except for one 4 star.) Good customer service goes a long way at making the riders trust you and making their ride as comfortable as possible. All I can say really is to stay consistent and have them leave with a smile. Mahalo from Hawaii! 🤙🏻
I wish I would have known about the referral code prior to signing up. I definitely would have used yours. Your video covered it all. Well done. To me it's all common sense, but sadly...a lot of people out there don't have that. So thanks for sharing, hopefully many will follow your lead. Looking forward to more of your videos as I begin my Uber journey.
Great 👍🏽 tips! Especially cleanings & oder control.
Thanks for the tips Eric.
Great video man thanks for your help
This guy it’s cool asf no wonder he gets a lot tips plus he thinks about his costumers by getting stuff awesome video
Thanks for the support mate!
Excellent post! Thank you!
Awesome video! 😊 you should add your playlist to the description.
Thanks for watching and that’s a great idea!
@@TroveLessTraveled_ Hey can I add my playlist that help me get tips. It went from 10% - 16%
*helps
I'm a 5.0 rating with over 1500 rides. No water. No snacks. Just awesome personality.
Thanks for being an asset to the rideshare community!
Great video thank you. Very helpful
Thank you!
Great tips man!
Thanks for the info 👍🏼
spot on vid. thanks
Thank you for all your tips
thanks bro for the tips
Very good video! Thanks!!
Thank you! Much appreciated!
These are really good tips for the newer drivers and for those with low ratings. I always have water, snacks, tissues, and phone chargers. These actually help a lot when you have a long distance trip. Another thing I started having on my car is emesis bags (those are the blue bags you see at the hospital for vomiting) they come really handy for those riders with motion sickness or your typical drunk late at night. I have a first aid bag with a few OTC medications. I work EMS full time so I can relate a lot when im doing uber.
Yeah, emesis bags should be something I add to an additional video! Have you had passengers throw up in your car at night??
@@TroveLessTraveled_ Yes ! last night one of my late night passengers started vomiting instantly but I was glad he got a hold of the bag in time. Nothing spilled but the awful smell was in the air, he was even nice enough to tip me 12 bucks on a 2 mile ride. Honestly its a lot better having those because they're small and you can close them to cover the smell. I cant imagine going out of service because you need to clean up, been there done that and it sucks. best luck to you !
Thank you for sharing I will try all of that !!!!
Thanks for the support! I wish you the best in your rideshare journey!
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Awesome tips and Video.... Keep it up fellow Uber driver :)
Thanks so much! Keep up the good work yourself!
You got my support brother, I just subscribed. I drive Uber in Louisiana.
Thanks for subscribing! I have some more videos I need to edit and get up for everyone!
good to have people who support others.
Great video!!
Great info thanks so much!
Thanks so much for your support!
Thanks! Great video.
I don't know who would dislike your video. You have a solid rationale and you're a clever businessman. You know that the customer is boss, and you put yourself in their shoes in order to see what they would and wouldn't like. Thanks for your video.
I appreciate your comment! Anytime I'm working I try to take it seriously. Obviously as a part-time driver (and I'm sure all part-time drivers would feel the same way) I hope there's a day I don't have to drive at all! But until my other business pursuits get to that point I'll keep hustling and netting over $20/hr on a side gig that is mildly enjoyable!
Great tips! Thanks!
Thanks for the support!
I have 4.97 with 1240 rides in less then a year (which im proud of myself for so i understand)... However love the video i think all drivers should naturally take pride in whatever work ya do and do all those things you had listed... Great list! Need more drivers like ya!😎
Thanks for the support! Obviously you're a great member of the rideshare community and it's people like you that make it possible for people like me to create a livelihood using the Uber platform!
I don't drive Uber. I don't use the app. Thoroughly enjoyed your vid. Much respect!
Thanks mate! Thanks for the support!
Thanks for the tips
4.99 rating in Lyft.
Smile. Don’t be an asshole. Keep your car clean. Drive well, keeping as much of a distance between you and the car ahead of you as possible. No sudden stops and fast accelerations. All stuff you’ve heard before but it’s really the most important.
Make your car smell nice but don’t overdo it. I use organic essential oils personally. Ask your rider how he or she is doing/how his or her day is going. Their response gives me an idea if they want to talk or not about 75% of the time. I also play casual and relaxing music.
Great advice man. I have a 4. 93, but I don't give out candy. However I do all the same stuff you do. I wonder if I gave a candy that might increase my tips? And I also live in Tampa Florida not too many Big Spenders around here.
I'm about to order those mats for my new prius. By the way you're making a great video, don't stop making them... you rock and i can see we both respect the hustle!
I just bought a second pair off Craigslist for my wife's Prius this week which included the trunk mat for $80
Well done. Thanks.
Thanks for the support!
You Sir are indeed a top driver. Very professional and very logical. I'be been driving since October of 2017 and I also follow those rules myself. The 11th should be under no circumstance should the driver answer his phone and carry on a conversation. When you are driving pax it is all about them and there comfort and safety. You call them back when you drop off. Thank you! Great video😊
Thank you for the overwhelming support! I think if everyone were to view their rideshare driving as a professional experience they would see far better results, network better, and just overall feel better about themselves. I agree on tip #11
I really want to commend you on the pride and honor that you take in your work. In this day and age, it's pretty rare seeing anyone who is willing to go the extra mile and not expect to be compensated, awarded or commended for doing it. You have a superlative work ethic which definitely makes you an asset to Uber, and I sincerely hope that they recognize you accordingly for earning that exceptionally high rating that you have. I think that there are far too many people in this world who are only willing to do the absolute bare minimum that is required of them at their jobs... And unfortunately, it's that insipid type of attitude that is becoming more and more of the expected 'norm'. Thank you for being such an exemplar role model, and as an Uber driver and as a rider myself - I applaud you & appreciate you very much!!!
Great profile, I’m 4.98 with 500 rides so far, just kind and friendly to riders and I always ask them what music they want on, of course keep the car clean and yeah that works pretty well.
Thanks for watching! Thanks for being an asset to the rideshare community!
All Great tips. To me and I sometimes don't do it is #10 THAT'S HUGE!
Good stuff!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the support!
Thanks for all your advice! I am just starting up, had my first day but no rides.I was online fOR 40 minutes....I am in Tampa Bay Fla, Area...what tips would u have as to when , where etc to get work, rides?
Obviously more densely populated areas will give you greater opportunities for rides. I like to drive early in the morning (6am-9am) on week days when business people are commuting. Evenings on the weekends are also a great time to earn money because typically (depending on the city) automatic surges will be in place and people are going out to eat/drink and don't want to be behind the wheel. Like anything in life a little trial and error will help you find your niche! I would try near Tropicana field after a Rays game!
Great video. I am wondering what do you think about, when a rider slams your car door after they get out? Do you tell them to not do that, or just give them 1 star, as well as if they love kicking the back seat?
Hahahahaha if I have someone who loves kicking my backseat I'm definitely giving them a 1!! I don't usually have an issue with the door sometimes I'll just say "be careful with the door" if they slammed it getting in.
renegadebiker24 of. Corse I will give theme one star
i have smooth jazz in my uber car but grate tips love them will do them
I LOVE smooth jazz as well. Excellent choice! Thanks for the support and for making the Uber community great!
Great advice👍
Thank you for your support!
You did well on this video. First vid, 300+ views, a few likes. Keep it up. What happened to the videos you hinted at.
I have a few more filmed I just need to finish editing. Thanks for motivating me to get them up!
Hope you've tuned back in. I've put up a handful of other videos now!
good videos bro keep it up.
Thanks I just dropped my second one yesterday!
Great video. Houston driver here 250 rides in got my first 1* rating. Bringing my 4.96 down to 4.94
The Uber trolls will try to bring you down with 1s. Just rise above. I get them too. That's why it's important to me to get as many satisfied people to leave a 5 rating, hence all the little things I do.
After 6500 rides don't really care.4.8 and dont care.most of these riders just want a cheap ride
With the new Uber pro program it actually matters what your rating is. It can jeopardize your ability to access several features on the Uber platform
Great advice for New Uber Drivers!
Thanks! Hopefully it's helpful!
You are doing very good job my friend I tell you now is it very hard to make riders happy I have a 2017 Honda accord Touring with a black leather seat and heating rear seat my car is always clean but some riders still give your 3 to 4 stars because of the temperature in the car this is very easy to fix tell the Driver to change the temperature to the way you want. I completed 1620 rides with a 4.95 stars.
Man, you are so right! People these days are just passive aggressive. Just simply ask me and I can accommodate nearly any reasonable request. Instead, they don't ask and just leave a 3...
Closing in on 5400...your rating...pleased to meet you...lol...it is always great to meet a fellow Customer Service Professional...some of these jokers think this is just a job...
lol i have 20k rides and my rating is at 4.97 my car is rarely ever clean, dont offer chargers or snacks. just 1 good advice i can give is to be a good peoples person
If you know how to communicate with people you'll rarely have a problem being successful in life. Most people are probably not as gifted as you Ezra. I mean that will all sincerity. For those people who drive and struggle with a language barrier (maybe an immigrant who doesn't speak English well yet), someone who is a bit introverted, or maybe just isn't a confident driver, these tips may be invaluable for them.
Thanks for the comment! I hope you continue to make Uber an incredible platform for part-time drivers like me to benefit from, both as a rider and a driver.
Great video.
It's very easy to see that you take this job very seriously. That's admirable in my book. You're doing a great job! Keep up the good work!
Out of 93 rates I have 90 5 stars I’m going to take your tips and apply it see what happens! Thanks for the tips.
Well Done sir! Great tips! // 4.92 Rating 3300 rides
Keep up the good work and the results will follow! Thanks for making the Uber platform a better place for everyone of us!
Great video make more
Thanks so much for video!! I do uber in Laredo Texas and San Antonio Texas I always have smooth Jazz playing in my car and so far every one likes it but I always ask them if they want to listen something else !!! My rating is 4.94 1020 trips in a year !!! 😊
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for being an asset to the rideshare community! It's people like you that help the passengers have a positive experience and keep coming back no matter what city they're in!
Are the water bottles that you offer cold or room temp?
In one month, I did over 346 rides and my rating is 4.92. Thank you for the info!!
Keep up the hard work! You're a benefit to the rideshare community!
I agree with you 100% I do the same things, I have a 4.96 over 1300 rides.
Hey brother I love reggae, Bob Marley!!! Starting uber today. Wish me luck.
Hopefully it’s going well!!
I think I know the answer to this question but here it goes anyway. When you're actively recruiting for Uber or Lyft drivers to get the referral bonus by using your link...can you only recruit for drivers in the state where YOU signed up or can you run your UA-cam or any other marketing advertising across the United States looking for referral signups in any state?? I appreciate your time informative videos. I look forward to your answer. Continued success in your Business. Thank you
Sir your video advises are the real deal.
in my case I figured everything you said on my own, and do it, but still got slammed with few bad ratings.
All it was, I used Aqua Di cologne, just wanted a special feel in the car for the riders, but guess what, that cologne is so good, and so much underlines "expensive"
that drives riders jealous, and they slam with bad rating. I stopped using it, and rating went up!
Under promise, over deliver! Good work mate!
Thanks 🙏
No problem!
When did you start to drive?
Good tips. Good video. One important tip is to know when a rider doesn't want to talk. I've been in rides where I'm clearly busy and the uber driver is still trying to talk to me. It's infuriating.
100% agree. I think that comes from experience. Most people are pretty introverted around new people anyways. I just ask a few quick questions and based on their responses I'll gauge if they'd just prefer to play on their phone in the back. Certainly, a skill to know when to shut up, but my wife is pretty vocal about it so I've been well trained!
Muy buen video saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina gracias por los buenos consejos
¡Muchas gracias! I appreciate the support!
OZIUM ALL DAMN DAY!! I keep 2 cans for the stankies
It's a miracle worker right?!? Most people don't even know how much they smell but I would really hate if the next person in my car thinks it came from me!
It’s hilarious! I’m such an innocent, I didn’t know that was a pot smell. I thought those who smelled that way had been drinking a lot of gin! 😆 I was like, “Damn! How much gin did they drink to smell like that!?” Finally, I figured thinks out. Marijuana is NASTY, smells NASTY! Ugh! I’ve also had drunks get in my car that wreaked like a whiskey bottle! Gotta keep the car smelling good!
How do you keep your light colored Seats so clean ?
I've been pretty fortunate. No major spills yet. Fingers crossed! I steam clean my seats every so often. The newer Prius we just bought has leather seats which is an absolute game changer.
Brother, thank you for your advice. I learned few things from your video. However, my rate is 4.99% 98% acceptances and 3% canceled ride. I guess I can consider my self 1% uber top driver.
Looks like you're already out there killing it! Glad to see it. Hopefully, I was able to help in some small way!
Thank you
You're welcome! I hope you like it!
4.94 also~ Tip #11 ask the passenger if the temperature is good~ i always ask if they need more A/C on a hot day or more heat in the winter months~
That is so true. I have had a few times I haven't recognized someone was cold straight away and I could definitely do better at assessing the needs of the rider! Thanks!
No wonder you look and sound familiar! I met you at delta when I was working at LAX !
Ozium is the best for those smells. Pot especially. It seems to kill odors rather than mask them.
Yeah, it's a life saver - well at least a hero for those of us who prefer fresh air!
Bath and Body Works room sprays are perfect for keeping the car fresh...they are small but just two sprays gets the car smelling fresh. Everyone that gets in my car says “wow it smells great in here!”.
i uber full time in LA...(14 months) 4,646 rides... 4.92.................... febreeze is best.. i used to give water but most open it then put it back,.. nasty,, no more mints, they leave the trash everywhere,, or throw it out the window... or spit it out in my car.... done... no aux cord... just chargers
I have had 2 instances where people opened a water and then put it back. Can't understand what these people are thinking sometimes, but it's the nature of the job. People tend to do 1 of 3 things with their trash: put it in the cup holder, put it in the seat back pocket (not a big deal), or take it with them. I just keep an eye out and try to keep it clean. It pays off!
What sort of service would you give to your riders if you were on Luxury part ? Champagne maybe 🙏 I wish Uber put fair up , it’s so cheap in UK 🇬🇧. Keep it up
Is long distance travel worth the money?
Haha “a feather in my cap”. Thanks for the video, super helpful! I just got approved or whatever, so my first day is tomorrow. Really appreciate your tips ❤️
Thanks so much! Just trying to share things that have helped me personally! Go out there and hustle!
