Thank you all for sharing. This episode was a general defense of the misconceptions of the Crusades being an offensive attack against Islam. So untrue. Like Orwell says in "1984" "those who control the present, control the past and those who control the past, control the future."
I did not major in history so a lot of this is new to me. So I appreciate this very much. I should get a good Catholic book of history. Do you recommend any
recent history I would say Malachi Martin's books are solid. "Vatican" is a great historical fiction about what happened to the church in the latter half of last century. "Lives of the Popes" is okay. "How Catholic Church built western civ" is a standard. Eusebius of course is good
Great talk about the Reconquista. Most people don't know about that. El cid and alike. 700 years of fighting the moors outside of Spain. 700 years! Can you imagine that? Does America have that in them? No
I understand why they wanted to Jerusalem and why they wanted all this land. But we have every right to defend our land into defend our faith. And just like you said. How would you feel if people came to your house to try to desecrate everything that you hold sacred?
The good thing is you are sharing about our mother Church, quite remarkable a content that's to awaken my awareness as far as my faith as Catholic is concerned. Thanks for the presentation 👍
this eps intent is not to cover this, but the crusades had so many far flung effects on Europe. for example, it exposed Western Europe to how backward they were compared to Byzantium and also Brought much of islamic, jewish, and byzantine theology and philosophy to the West
All of this is true. It was a defensive posture that later certain catholic kingdoms might have used for political purposes, but that doesnt take away from the fact that every christian in Europe wanted the holy land freed
I would agree with that in the later crusades that were certainly blemishes, most notably the 4th crusade, but it doesn't take away from the religious fervor and desire to free the holy land
It's funny b/c if you watch Ridley Scott's "kingdom of heaven" the reason why Bloom goes crazy is the corrupt priest who tells him his wife is in hell for killing herself. Well, THAT IS THE CHURCH'S TEACHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What did you expect Christendom to do? We live in such a secular world we can’t imagine conducting a military campaign for religious reasons like liberating the holy land.
