    Hello helena, is Not working on insta so I try on you Tube 😊 somes questions if you dont mind
    My first question is about the snow, do you think in middle of may is gonna be Ok I dont find advice about the weather up there, ? The second is about your harnest, i've been to the shop and the sailer told me to not buy this one cause' he told me that it was not really suitable for via ferrata, my question was if there were very vertical walls to climb? I still took the same meteora helmet
    Thanks for your back and your channel 😉😉

      Depending on the snow year you can be lucky but I’d say may is a bit too early! It changes from year to year but if you start in mid may you’ll get to the higher parts around end may/early June and above 2000 meters there is snow very likely. It can change in the alps from year to year so I’d say it’s better to be flexible.
      The harness is not made especially for via ferrata, that’s absolutely true. There are no very vertical walls. It can be steep but always quite easy to get up and no actual climbing, more like scrambling. I would not officially advise to get a harness like this but since you’re most likely not going to fall down and if you would, the harness would hold you, of course it is not as comfortable and not designed to fall into it. It’s really more like an emergency thing. People have tested it in the climbing gym and said that it can really hurt because there is no padding.
      Hope that helps!😊

    Thanks for sharing. I didn’t see what you were doing for water storage or filtration. Am also not familiar with the trail. Not an issue?

      Hi! I used a platypus quickdraw filter. It's not shown in the video, because I bought it just one week before starting on the trail. Water filtration or purification is definitely needed if you want to use natural sources but you can hike the trail by just relying on buying water in the huts which sometimes can be 5€ because they are supplied by helicopter. I prefer filtering water from natural sources to save money, but if money is not an issue, you could go without a filter!

    Hi, thanks for sharing! im planning to do this in August and was wondering how cold it gets in the highest altitude huts? Just trying to figure out what sleeping bag/mat i should take. Thanks

      Hi! The coldest night I had in august was 2°C on Krn. In the huts you never really need a mat, sometimes a sleeping bag when it’s cold. you only need a mat when you don’t reserve and want to sleep on the floor, etc :-)

    Trotz der angelsächsischen, fremden Zunge, in der du sprichst, fühle ich mich auf jede Wanderung gut vorbereitet, die ich von mir ausgehend und ohne externe Anlässe niemals unternehmen werde.
    Danke für die Loadout-Meta.

    Hey, I'm planning on doing the SMT this summer. I have a few questions about food.
    I plan on mostly eating at the huts, but I would also like to carry some food, especially for the days I will be sleeping in the tent. I'm looking for some food recommendations. Did you bring any dehydrated meals? Can dehydrated meals or gas-canisters be bought on the trail?

    • @helena_hikes
      @helena_hikes  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Nice that you’re planning to hike the trail :-) I had some dehydrated meals (knorr pasta) but mostly I was eating dry food, because it was so warm. So very often i had tortillas with hummus, spinach, bread…
      In bigger stores you can buy dehydrated meals, nothing fancy, really just the knorr sides. I maybe have to mention that sometimes I took a bus to some town to have a bigger store (the bus was around 1-2€ and 20-30 minute ride). I think I went into kranj and Ljubljana which are not on the trail. But trizic has good stores, Slovenj gradec, jesenice….
      Gas canisters I haven’t seen along the way but I was also not looking because I only needed one on the trail. There is an outdoor shop in Mojstrana, that’s the only place where I think they could have them. But I think one medium sized canister should last you for the whole trail.

    Hey I was just wondering why you are packing a tent for SMT? also would you recommend sleeping bag as well if you plan on staying in huts?

    • @helena_hikes
      @helena_hikes  Рік тому

      I will probably sleep in the tent sometimes wherever it’s possible, not only in huts!

      @@helena_hikes if I was planning on staying in the huts would you recommend bringing a sleeping bag or just the liner?

    • @helena_hikes
      @helena_hikes  Рік тому

      @@skullybeater i really like having my own sleeping bag but you should be fine with just bringing a liner. They usually have blankets everywhere :-)

      But I might have to add that in some huts (kredarica below Triglav for example) it was very cold, as the hut is at 2500 m. And here I was very happy to have my sleeping bag and if you have no reservation it’s better to have your own sleeping equipment
