It's so cool to see insights into film production, and extra fun because I happened to be an extra for The Green Knight for a day (which is wild, I lived in Ireland for under a year). It's a whole different perspective. Me and the other extras got to the location early at morning, went into the costumes, had breakfast, got makeup and waited a while, then we went to the exact spot where the scene would be shot, waited for a while longer, had lunch, waited a bit more (the crew were filming a scene with Dev Patel at the woods there) and only at afternoon we all got laid onto the mud (most of us were corpses for that big post-battle scene with Barry Keoghan). It was a peaceful death. I even managed to recognize myself in the final shot, which is pretty awesome.

I LOVE the new react series. Having director POV on film making along with Stunt/VFX is amazing all the different perspectives and reasonings behind the decisions they make in a film. David Lowery is so cool to have as the first also very down to earth and humble feeling through out the video.
Although I love Petter Pan & Wendy for making Disney lose money a little bit faster, I also appreciate the effort put into it (except for the writing part). And this is also something I love about this series. Some movies may be bad, but you can still appreciate parts of it, be it vfx, stunts, etc.
Love it so darn much. David Lowery is already one of my favourite modern filmmakers, so glad you opened the series with him, can't wait for every next chapters of his, and for the next great video of yours. so good
The Green Knight will forever hold a special place for me. Not only is it a masterclass in film making that I was in awe of the entire time, when it came to theaters in 2021, it was the first quality theatrical experience I had since the pandemic closed theaters. Sitting down in a dark theater with that giant screen, seeing the lights go down and then instantly getting transported away to Lowery's amazing vision was an emotional experience. But even without that anecdote, The Green Knight is an absolute must watch.
@randomvideoboy1 You don't have to be smart to understand the movie, just engage with the story. You seem kind of insecure about your own level of intelligence though.
@randomvideoboy1 I'm sorry you didn't understand what was going on and didn't enjoy the film. I did and found it completely engrossing. Very strange you felt it necessary to attack me for it. Go watch a movie you do enjoy.
Something I have learned over the past few years from this is A24 is one of the coolest studios(?) in the industry for taking little known talent and helping them make it big. I would honestly love to have someone in charge of A24 on the couch and learning how they find these people.
Now all you have left is actors react, producers react, film music composers react, costume designers react & prop masters react to become the kings of reacting to how movies are made, congrats!
"Disney director" in not really a high standard these days considering all of the mediocre or straight up bad stuff they've released in the past few years, one of it being Peter Pan and Wendy which this guy directed. He looks like a cool dude on a personal level which is nice and all, but movie wise is plain mediocre considering the average score of his movies as a director is like 6-ish and the definition of "we'll fix it in post". I wouldn't say it's a banger start.
@@alkaya1907 I don't know if you've been here from the start, but the VFX / Animators react channel started from small beginnings, and certainly never had access to the talent they regularly include nowadays. So if this is their first guest, give it 100+ episodes like they've had with their other series have and they'll be on the couch with some of the greatest directors working just like they currently do with the quality of talent in the stuntmen/vfx/animators react videos. I do take your point, but maybe you missed mine. I don't expect you to have watched since then, but you'd know if you had that if they can get this talent on their first episode they're going to have much bigger ones on the horizon.
@@walterroux291 Yes I have been here for many years even before the VFX reacts and I'm not sure what does this have to do with anything. I never said in my comment there is need to be some big Hollywood name director on the show and I think you misunderstood mine because my intent was not for them to get huge Hollywood names, but to get people who made good films even if they're smaller/indie directors working on smaller projects. It doesn't need to be a huge studio production to create a good movie and that's why I said that Disney director is not really a high standard, because even as a big studio they don't really inspire high quality product or art these days because for them everything is about the formula and not the art.
@@alkaya1907 It's obvious you don't know who David Lowery is and have not watched his films, because what you're saying is so off base. Just watch A Ghost Story and The Green Knight. He's not a "Disney director".
Got to feel sorry for him having Peter Pan and Wendy in his portfolio. The script/writing was absolutely terrible and to have to create that visually must have been a true burden. His other films have been entertaining but PP&W was an absolute shambles and it's straight to streaming finale summed up that the studio had no confidence in it.
They get so close to the problem with pete's dragon. "The magic of seeing a cartoon integrate interact with real people". And "We need to do this and that to make it more real".
This was amazing. I love David Lowery’s work and hearing you guys chat to him and have him explore his decisions in such a candid way is awesome. Brilliant, inspiring stuff as always
Great react. Love getting the behind the scenes from the directors point of view. This is a keeper - Stunts,VFX Artist , Animators, now Directors. Thumbs up!....Just in case you're wondering...we will not need an Accountants react, or a Producer reacts....to the budget. ON a plane" Prod: "Oh, I thought the 'plane' was a metaphor..." 😅

Amazing technical feats but "We hadn't planned it so we did it all in post" vs "We had a table and some people sat around it" is why so many movies are so incredibly expensive these days.
It’s also insanely different to the original completely losing the morality of the story. If you give a shit about the original legend this movie absolute dog crap. Just like Peter Pan and Wendy.
This brings us one step closer to the the Corridor Digital school of film. As someone that has never had anything to do with film making all of these series have given me an appreciation for the work and thought that goes into the process. I sincerely hope that these videos inspire new filmmakers.
So cool that you are going deeper in every aspect of filmmaking. Loved this episode, and I would love to see any other director telling their perspectives, tricks, and funny moments! Keep going!
David Lowery is a real great director. The Green Knight is such an awesome film and Peter Pan & Wendy has such style. Can't wait to see what he does with his episode of StarWars early next year!
@@owyx8608Don’t think I’ll watch Peter Pan & Wendy, but the Green Knight is one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. Really surprising how well done it was. Loved the non-linearity of it. Obviously the aesthetics and the VFX were amazing, but what really got me was how he retold the coming of she, “becoming a man/adult” story, in such a brilliant fashion. You could really feel the fear and shame the character felt. Especially in the scene where he is tempted by the Nobel man’s wife and “prematurely jumps the gun”, and the secondhand embarrassment you feel for the character is so real. So…I get if it’s not someone’s cup of tea, but to say it’s not a really well done movie, is flat out insulting.
Don't wanna be that guy, but you might get in trouble with the Burning Man Org as they are really against people advertising products with footage from there, since decommodification is key to the event. Those shoes did look like lifesavers thou, saw all kinds of makeshift shoes this year haha
I gotta say, I LOVE mythology and old legends and from my understanding David is being extremely generous and kind about the old Arthurian legends. They're extremely interesting, but when I heard some telling of them there are not structured like modern stories. They're often pretty confusing and surreal, jumping from one location to another with fantastic imagery that's almost hard to imagine. It's often up to the teller to sort of translate the text and fit it to the situation. I mean the Arthurian legends, if I remember correctly are still in the age of heavy oratory traditions, so tweaking the story back then was already exceedingly common All that being said, I'm not sure how much you can hold true to the original narrative when it was confusing and changed between sources, but what he CLEARLY honored was that fantastic imagery, surrealism, and almost fever-dream environment that's in so many old myths and legends that makes them so intensely interesting
You've spoken with the stuntmen and women who make our hearts jump. You've spoken with the VFX coordinators and specialists who help make a scene or movie pop. This is a terrific spin on talking to the person who brought it all together with his (or her, hopefully) vision of what the movie could / should be. This is what getting an in-depth and insightful look into filmmaking should be. Geep up the amazing work, guys!!
AMAZING video! Please continue this series, I've been a fan of VFX reacts since the early days and I love all the different departments you guys have branched out to. As someone who is typically against the idea of live action remakes of animated features, it was really insightful to see someone like David Lowery express so much reverence for the source material (and in the case of Peter Pan other adaptations). It has made me more interested in his filmography in the past and looking out for his movies going forward. I think this series offers an amazing platform for you guys to pick the minds of directors and I can't wait for more! Great work!!!
@randomvideoboy1 I watched the movie having no idea about the original poem source material or anything else about the context of the movie. If you go into a movie expecting to take everything literally, or have everything spelled out for you, you're definitely limiting the number of movies you can enjoy. Maybe that sounds pretentious, but it's not hard to be more open minded. I'm not pretending like I understood everything on my first watch, but leaving some plot points up to interpretation really got me to think more about the movie and made me want to revisit it. Let alone that it's beautifully shot. People have different tastes in movies, and the great thing is that there are plenty, plenty of movies for you that are faster paced and tell you exactly what happens with no room for ambiguity.
I loved _The Green Knight;_ I saw it in the cinema when it came out: it helped that both Kate Dickie and (as the title role) Ralph Ineson, both from _The Witch_ were in this...
Makes me smile that Peter Pan and the List of Checkboxes lost tons of money. Again. Wonder when Disney will go bankrupt. "Not even better, just different". Oh boy was it different, in the sense that it removed every ounce of charm and fun that made the original novel great.
How do you know that it lost money? It was a straight to Disney+ release. There are no box office numbers you could study. Is this just based on vibes?
$170M just for shots, plus advertisement and it was a flop because noone wanted to see it in the first place because they valued race-swapping and making women girl-bosses instead of telling a good story for the hundreth time.
@kropianimation1774 it did nothing to increase their revenue, the film is a critically panned and did nothing to increase viewership on Disney plus, of anything it dramatically decreased it
@@coletrainhetrick Let's look at actual facts, not your personal feelings, shall we?The film has a 64% Rotten Tomatoes score & a 6.1 on MetaCritic. Not great, but also nowhere near "critically panned". The film in it's debut week was the 2nd most streamed film on any streaming service, so it did in fact increase viewership on Disney+. Your "dramactially decreased" viewership claim is just conservative fan fiction I guess, I have no idea where that comes from.

These ‘Directors React’ episodes might be my favorite Corridor react genre. Good stuff bois and Jordan 👍
This is like VF's Notes on a Scene but so much more chill and informative. keep it coming!
I can only see the quality of these videos, their guests, and everything else improving... ❤
Something I have learned over the past few years from this is A24 is one of the coolest studios(?) in the industry for taking little known talent and helping them make it big. I would honestly love to have someone in charge of A24 on the couch and learning how they find these people.
Burning Man is all about ad placements and commercialism/capitalism 🤣🤣🙃🙃
Now all you have left is actors react, producers react, film music composers react, costume designers react & prop masters react to become the kings of reacting to how movies are made, congrats!
Dang getting a Disney director for the first episode, can't wait to see the guests we'll be getting on the couch if you're starting with this Banger 💥
You guys are the only content on UA-cam I can watch consistently not wanting to miss an episode!!! PLEASE more directors react!!!
Getting someone like Ridley Scott or Taika Waititi on the couch for this series would be amazing
Taika would be chaos, but it'd still watch that...
19:27 "the story matters" but than proceed to change completely the original story
Yes the story you a creating matters. Not rewrite it
They get so close to the problem with pete's dragon. "The magic of seeing a cartoon integrate interact with real people". And "We need to do this and that to make it more real".
No A Ghost Story??? Man, I want to hear about that subtle film.
I loved The Green Knight so much, truly my favorite movie that year it came out. Def in my top 10 of all time
This was amazing.
Prod: "Explain again Ms White why we need to rent an airplane... for a whole day!" White: "Well sir...as you read in the writeup...the movie takes place... ON a plane" Prod: "Oh, I thought the 'plane' was a metaphor..." 😅
God I love Corridor. You guys just constantly produce such cool content but also such informative and insightful content for filmmakers of any age! I feel like the caliber of what you guys have taught viewers of your channel is honestly on par with what I learned in film school. Incredibly valuable information, keep up the great work!
Amazing technical feats but "We hadn't planned it so we did it all in post" vs "We had a table and some people sat around it" is why so many movies are so incredibly expensive these days.
A+++. thrilled about a directors version. keep up the good work, gang. Maybe a sound designers react at some point??
For sure more of these Director series
The green knight is the most harrowing and confronting film ive seen, its insane how different it is compared to what the trailers showed.
It’s also insanely different to the original completely losing the morality of the story. If you give a shit about the original legend this movie absolute dog crap. Just like Peter Pan and Wendy.
Who hurt you? @randomvideoboy1
I've made a tradition of watching The Green Knight every Christmas since it's come out. Great rendition
Keep going!
So glad to see a new series! Excited to see who it brings on the couch!!
Next up: Director X to elaborate on the poetic meaning of the family kitchen condom jar in Robyn Hood?
David Lowery is a real great director. The Green Knight is such an awesome film and Peter Pan & Wendy has such style. Can't wait to see what he does with his episode of StarWars early next year!
peter & Wendy is really bad same for the green knight i don't think we have seen the same show
Green Knight has went completely under my radar. Curious to watch it, looks nice.
@@owyx8608 The Green Knight is definitely not for everyone
@@magicmark3309 this is just my opinion but green knight is average at best and peter & wendy is just disrespectful to the original.
It would be legendary to see David Fincher on that couch one day!!
I find him so interesting and fascinating
Love this Director's React series! Please keep them coming!
Video Game: Castlevania Lords Of Shadows 2 cinematic trailer.
TV Show: Doctor Who Season 12, Revolution Of The Daleks, timestamp 59:15 - 1:01:23.
The Green Knight Really feels like a 2 Hour short film & i love it so much because of that
Don't wanna be that guy, but you might get in trouble with the Burning Man Org as they are really against people advertising products with footage from there, since decommodification is key to the event.
I mean the Arthurian legends, if I remember correctly are still in the age of heavy oratory traditions, so tweaking the story back then was already exceedingly common
All that being said, I'm not sure how much you can hold true to the original narrative when it was confusing and changed between sources, but what he CLEARLY honored was that fantastic imagery, surrealism, and almost fever-dream environment that's in so many old myths and legends that makes them so intensely interesting
Corridors lowkey way of meeting more "important" industry professionals lmao. Love this series idea
I love this new series!!! So excited :-)
Should have asked David how he felt when all of these movies flopped at the box office.
Was waiting for that but Pete's Dragon broke even
I don't think Peter Pan was in theaters... as a movie it's a bit uneven. The initial minutes are uninteresting, but the final part is quite good.
ha
The Green Knight is my favorite movie I've ever seen. David Lowery is a great guest to kickoff this react series! Loved all his insight!!
Director react????? Wes Anderson please make an appearance in the near future
LOVED the new series! Can't wait to see more!
That is an insane idea, looking forward to more episodes like this! 🎉
To be honest I'd be happy with literally any director, I feel like everyone will have some fresh insights and interesting stories.
One of my favorite jokes about the Pete's Dragon remake is that it was cruel that production never told Robert Redford that the dragon wasn't real.
Corridor is a full fledged film resource now and its really appreciated you guys are awesome
The Green Knight was one of my favorite movies of that year. The visuals blew me away!
same, It was a bit slow at first but I ended up loving it
lol Peter Pan and Wendy has an 11% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
So THIS is the guy who destroyed the legacy of Pete's Dragon....
I love all the behind the scenes with Stunt Doubles, VFX Artists, and Cartoonists, but this is seriously on a different level!
I loved _The Green Knight;_ I saw it in the cinema when it came out: it helped that both Kate Dickie and (as the title role) Ralph Ineson, both from _The Witch_ were in this...
Peter Pan & Wendy was critically panned by everyone and for good reason
@@kropianimation1774 oh boy, another case where no one knows how RT actually works! God, can that site just fucking die already.
The RT score refers to the percentage of the audience that thought the movie was good eniugh to give a neutral to positive score as a movie. On a traditional rating scale this could mean it is anywhere between a 5 and a 10. 64% of the audience thought it was somewhere between there.
36% of the audience did not even think that.
I didn't even know they made another Peter Pan movie, it looks fantastic!
I love this. I would love to see writers react 😅
You might enjoy EFAP, then every frame a pause, and Criical Drinker. Both channels are focused on writing and storytelling, and the latter is an accomplished novelist.
@morganseppy5180 thank you I'll look into them 😊
THE ORIGINAL react series! I love the level of conversation that you've all been able to engender in the movie-loving community and the public at large.
Peter Pan was really dissapointing for me.
They made tinkerbell look like the other fairy we saw in the tinkerbell movie.
They changed peter pans hair color and race (Im not racist i just don't see the reason as to why).
And for some reason i dont like the actor playing michael. He doesnt look the part.
But at least they casted Jude Law, and who doesnt like him.
I wasn't 'disappointed' per-se, in fact it completely met my expectations...
I wasn't expecting it to be good.
@@precisedime1377 Lol, Nice
YES! I love this new series! It was so great hearing David's take on expressing emotional changes through lens choices. And having just done this myself, I really got a kick out of hearing him talk about creating shots out of preroll and other takes. Also, it's about dang time we got more of Nick on camera! I'm looking forward to so many more of these. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I really appreciate the concept of the video but most of these are bad movies and im surprised they never brought up audience reaction
