- Multi-day hiking one of Tasmania's most spectacular mountain ranges, the Du Cane Range located in central Tasmania. The Du Cane Range is well known for its incredible landscapes, towered by the strange, yet amazing geometry of Mount Geryon and contains many mountain peaks, beautiful tarns and alpine lakes. I spent a few days camping at the Pool Of Memories in my Slingfin Portal tent and climbing numerous abels and mountains in the area - The Acropolis, Walled Mountain, Mount Hyperion, Mount Geryon North (False Summit) and the Du Cane High Point.

Thanks so much! Tracks are well sign posted into Pine Valley / Labyrinth, but then are just rough footpads with cairns for navigation following.

The Pine Valley region is my favourite place on the Overland Track.
I've been through the Overland Track 9 times but on one of those occasions, I took a boat along Lake St. Claire (like you) and spent 7 days in the Pine Valley region. So wild and peaceful.

Awesome! Which way did you go up Hyperion? I failed my attempt there after heading too close to the summit near the saddle on the right side of it!
Cheers! We went up on the right side of the lake, aiming for the obvious saddle. Then up an obvious steep chimney and a traverse around the top to the summit. The hardest part for us was finding the route up through the scrub to the saddle.
@@AaronGrayOutdoors perfect, we aimed for the saddle but started to aim for the summit too early and kept getting stuck in shrub and large rocks so couldn’t go any further after trying for an hour
Yeah damn! You definitely want to hit the saddle, if you ever re-try. At 13:03 is the saddle and you can see the route up to the summit.

Great video. Just finished the same hike yesterday. We got smashed with wind and rain on Thursday, so it's still worth it. Would be the best views of surrounding mountains, I've ever seen in Tassie

@@AaronGrayOutdoors Not many, we had 60 KPH winds from the SE over Ducane High point, with rain, it forced us to retreat back to Pine Valley,
But now I have a good understanding of the area, will return and do more.
Would love to do Walled mountain and Geryon.
@@cptlooney Walled Mountain was probably my favourite. So much to explore up on top with so many different viewpoints. We had planned to do the full traverse over to Massif and Falling Mountain originally like I did the year before but with a 40-60mm rain forecast for the following day, we made the wisest decision. It’s pretty nasty up there in rain, let alone strong winds. Hopefully you get better weather next time!

Yep, went there in November 2023. Great weather up until day 3. Camped at the Pool of Memories, I camped at the far side, away from the ants. Day 4 the rain turned to snow as I packed up and headed back up to Lake Elysia and back to the boat. Incredible scenery.
@davidunderwood9863 glad to had a good time. Yeah the ants around the Labyrinth can certainly be a pest! We didn’t have any issues this trip at PoM but Elysia had heaps.
Great video. Shame about the deteriorating weather. Was lucky enough to get perfect Autumn conditions last year for the full traverse. Can totally recommend adding in Mt Gould, The Guardians and The Minotaur to begin with. Also did it in Ultraventures 👌🏼
Thanks bud, yeah I am definitely keen on getting out to Gould / Guardians next time I am in the area. Yeah we were a little disappointed that a weather was turning, but I had done the traverse previously. Was happy just to tick off a few of the Abels that I missed last time such as Hyperion and Walled.
Ultraventures are great, although I find the material around the toes to wear way too quickly. Testing a pair of Xero and Altra now for the moment.
@@AaronGrayOutdoors yeah I came from Altras. They were probably a bit worse in my experience. It’s a hard one. Trail runners don’t last long but I just can’t see myself going back to boots. Too used to being nimble and light footed now.
