Aaron, as you recently received this from Sweetwater (year end holidays 2018), have you found the removable upper bout's retaining thumbscrews get loose? Other reviews of earlier SLG200S production models have commented this was an issue. Also good to hear your insights about using the SLG200S with the Helix!
I haven’t used it with a strap yet. I think that is what causes the issue and I can see how that would happen. Since I don’t have first hand experience I’m afraid I can’t help you but I’ll update here if it happens...
If I may chime in, I will say that the screw does loosen when used with a strap, but I've never found it to be a HUGE issue. In other words, it has never completely separated and it's easy enough to screw back in real quick.
Hi Aaron. nice review. I have one of these which i use via head phones ( Yamaha ones) i am disappointed with the sound, i expected it to sound like they do on the UA-cam videos, which i checked out before buying, i have never played it through an amp ,i would imagine thats the sound i was expecting through the head phones, i agree with some of the other comments its not loud enough and as you said its base heavy, what do you recomend, or am i expecting to much from the head phones ? regards Stu.
It took me a while to enjoy headphones. I currently use in ear monitors and I have spent a few months with them. I love them now. If you look up my Xvive U4 review they are linked in the description. The silent guitar is using older tech. It can sound good, I usually cut all of the bass and boost some treble. I quite like the sound that I get in headphones more than through a PA. I haven’t managed to get a good sound through a PA yet. I know that the TomeDexter pedal has IR’s that you can download to improve the sound but that pedal costs as much as a silent guitar. You may find a small external mixer would help you to shape the sound as well...
Aaron, Thank you very much for the fantastic demo and review. I’m thinking about getting this guitar and your video is extremely helpful. One question for you: have you had any issues with low volume while just using headphones straight from the guitar? I played the guitar at a local Sam Ash and could barely hear the guitar while using Apple earbuds. I then tried over ear Grado headphones and it was much better, but still a lower volume than I would like with the volume knob cranked. Granted it was a very loud music store and maybe the batteries in the guitar were low. My intention with the guitar is to use headphones into the guitar without any amps or computer connections. Regards, Neil
I have the same exact yamaha coming in Monday. I'm incredibly happy. It's getting me into imaging technology. Never thought I'd try recording acoustic direct..I wonder if it's nice with effects. Can't wait.

I use Martin Authentic Acoustic 2.0 MA540T. It’s most likely your saddle not sitting correctly/uneven. I would find another tech or send it to Yamaha.
Great Review Aaron !!!! I love your vids ! can you please review the SRT with the YAMAHA A series (A3R like) also with percussion plays :) ! thks !!!!!
Thank you! I would love to review this system but I am going to predict that there will not be much percussion sound available. I would check out the ‘Atmosfeel’ pickup if you play that style.
@@aaronshortmusic that'd be great, cause i watched some video of a guys using the Yamaha A3R live using some percussion and it worked , not so loud but we can hear the percussions
@@aaronshortmusic because I want to buy one (the new model) and the mic simulations sound just perfect
Fares.B That’s cool but I’d need Yamaha to loan me one. Feel free to tell them that you would like me to review it on my channel!
@@aaronshortmusic with pleasure ! (y) You're doing a great and honest reviews ! thks
Hi Aaron. How is the string height from the fretboard? Most are very high on acoustic guitars. Thanks for the demo.
This guitar came set up pretty well but I did have my tech look it over and I believe he lowered the action slightly on this one.
I got mine and first time on stage it sounded like a electric guitar a but tinny had I done a sound check I could have avoided it.
Yes I had the same experience and noticed that the pickup needs dialing in.
Which gauges you recommend for this awesome guitar? 12-53?...
Yes
Great guitar, I love mine. I even use it like an electric guitar through a pedal.
Rock on!
Oh..thx..what a git! I use the nylon in my vids..thanx for uploading
I’d love to try the nylon version!
So you connect the headphones directly to the guitar or do you need an amp?
You can use it both ways. Headphones are mini jack. Amp is standard guitar cable.
@@aaronshortmusic so that mean, we can play the guitar without the amp? just using headphones?
because I need something like that though
Kiri Lemon Yes you can connect headphones directly to the guitar...
Yeah, but does it feedback??😁
No, thankfully!!
I’m thinking they could have added Bluetooth, metronome, and better batteries.
Maybe in the next version...
Hi Aaron. nice review.
Aaron,
Thank you very much for the fantastic demo and review.
Regards,
Neil
Hi Neil. No issues with volume. Sounds great with headphones.
I have the same exact yamaha coming in Monday. I'm incredibly happy. It's getting me into imaging technology. Never thought I'd try recording acoustic direct..I wonder if it's nice with effects. Can't wait.
Mike Perron Congratulations Mike! It works great with effects!
Mike, Please share your feedback 😀
$729 now!
😮
Thanks for the review. I am a beginner and my wife complains.
This would certainly solve that problem lol
@@aaronshortmusic Question: Why wouldn't I just use my electric guitar using my headphones connected to my
Monoprice Mini Headphone Amplifier for Guitar - Tube Overdrive
James Holloway You can do that but obviously it won’t have the sound or feel of an acoustic.
But can it play Minecraft theme song ?
If YOU can then IT can.
I thought you would play it
Perfect if you wanna sound like a recording.
Talk so much
Thanks!
You keep comparing it to an "expensive" guitar... but those Yamaha "Silent" guitars are expensive.
It’s all relative. They retail around $500. That’s a pretty good price for an electric-acoustic I think...
$650 is cheap compared to a $2800 nice Martin or Gibson, which is cheap compared to a to a $7000 nice Bourgeois or Collings. You can get a very nice Yamaha solid for that $650 that has great natural tone unplugged. The only advantage of the SRT is if you really need a guitar that breaks down into a relatively small package.
Frank Kolton Maybe ‘affordable’ would have been a better word!
@@frankkolton1780 Hi Frank … using the SLG200S as my travel guitar is the reason I purchased it. No body to be impacted due to changes in humidity/temps. I was using an Ovation but the bridge started to separate from the body. Plus the sound is good for what it is. I always do direct-in while recording electro-acoustics.
@@ScubaSteveCanada when you travel with it, do put it in the overhead compartment?
